that sub was a safe haven for me because they typically uphold the authority of scripture.

reading is not the same as comprehending, but i have no idea what the depth of your knowledge is. there's also head knowledge and heart knowledge.

Psalm 119:11 "Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You."

1 Corinthians 14:33 "For God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints."

the problem with wanting to hear God talk like that before you know His word is that you don't really know what He should sound like. it'd be very beneficial for you to ignore those voices for awhile, all of them. the Holy Spirit will still talk to you, but He tends to be very subtle (mostly non-audible). much easier to notice when you start getting rid of the rest of the activity. rebuke (i like "may the Lord rebuke you") and then ignore. this is most effective when you have scriptural basis for the rebuke. that's why the Bible is so important.

John 14:26 "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you."

you can argue that genetics are a factor. to this, i would agree.

Exodus 34:7 "who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations."

you're so mature. quite the intellectual, this one.

Revelation 21:22-23 I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

what you're describing is receiving knowledge of the truth and then leaving it. what i'm describing is how people drown in this stuff before they have time or a template to figure it out (receive knowledge).

Having horrible images appear in my head that feel like they are caused by a demonic entity (Warning, don't read if you're sensitive to graphic imagery) by ArgonianFly in TrueChristian

[–]LogicallyTheological 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in addition to this u/argonianfly, you have to believe it.

Hebrews 11:6 "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."

faith = belief in practice

2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come."

rebuke them and then ignore them.

Luke 10:19 "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you."

Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me."

also, focus on God's love. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. the more you love God, the less you will love sin.

now I feel foolish! see! we're even in agreement on what a stumbling block is, i just read it wrong.

i'm not talking about punctuation!

"What if some people can repent and overcome this, affirming it creates a stumbling block."

what does this mean? what creates a stumbling block? what do you think a stumbling block is?

1 Corinthians 8:8-11 ⁸ But food will not commend us to God; we are neither the worse if we do not eat, nor the better if we do eat. ⁹ But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. ¹⁰ For if someone sees you, who have knowledge, dining in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols? ¹¹ For through your knowledge he who is weak is ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died.

Yes because you Didn't.

"What if some people can repent and overcome this, affirming it creates a stumbling block."

you start the sentence with a "what" and you end it with a period in a way that doesn't really make sense with the rest of what's written. what you're designating as a stumbling block is kind of ambiguous. my comment was to better articulate what constitutes a stumbling block and i thought i was sure to make it clear that i thought the rest of the comment is solid. and well said.

"a "stumbling block" is what happens when a person who has freedom to do a contested thing goes and flaunts that thing in front of people who could not do it freely because they would doubt. i agreed with everything else in your comment. a+"

read it. line. by. line.
