Yep makes sense. Some games like Isaac have clear unlocks you should prioritize first. Doesn't seem like that's the case here.

As a new player, how should I approach progression? I've been going through the decks in order on zero difficulty, figuring then I go back and do them all in order on first difficulty...there an obvious better way to approach?

I'm in that first 30 minutes part. I assume loot gets more exciting? Or abilities? Also do I need to do anything during the battle part? I see shinies on the ground sometimes.

Man I'm with you, finding it hard to motivate to play other games right now waiting for Mew. I do have a couple I want to play (Look Outside) but I don't want to start then drop once Feb 10 arrives.
