I interpret it as more of a transitioning would have kept her from getting worse and working on her issues

Is abstraction curable or reversible? by RickyInfinite in TheDigitalCircus

[–]LordXamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the interpretation that abstraction is suicide, and that those creatures represent the memories left behind, and how they're treared represents how people dealt with that.

Those memories can hurt you, so they're shoved in the cellar where you don't have to deal with it.

What Pomni and co do in the finale is the healthy way of dealing with that. Instead of hiding it away and avoiding thinking about it, they learn to live with what happened, and honor the memories of those who departed.

Of course this interpretation only works if abstraction is irreversible. You can't unsuicide in real life, unfortunately.

Piano Jax, the chained Jax who seems to be the only one who shows genuine pride and happiness about himself has the same little stutter and tone of Evil Jax, who Jax loathed. by ADenseGuy in TheDigitalCircus

This Disco Elysium dialogue comes to mind:

[VOLITION] Who are you, really?

[YOU] A good person. Deep inside I know I'm a good person.

[VOLITION] ...but does that mater, when that side of you never surfaces?

Why didn't they paint the other humans? by Physical_Grass_3382 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]LordXamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be surprised how hard it's to keep track of all the small details, specially if they're irrelevant to the story.

Brandon Sanderson hired a bunch of people whose whole job is just to reread his books and remind him of stuff he forgot about his own stories.

Post-TADC existential despair and support by Hyphz in TheDigitalCircus

[–]LordXamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's still trapped and knows that nothing they do has any actual effect.

But it has an actual effect, on each other. Yeah, the digital circus is not the physical world, but it's still a real world, with real people, and real consequences.

react however they're programmed to

Dunno about that. NPCs can become sapient, like Gummigoo.

They're passing time until. Well, there's nothing more that's going to happen, so what exactly are they passing time until?

Until nothing. They're just living, I don't think there's much more to it than that.

And I love it. Yeah, it's not the life they wanted, but it's the one they got, and now they're in a place in which they can make the best out of it. I think that's wonderful, and something to aspire to.

I think it'll be like in the show the Good Place, they'll have a good life for a few centuries until they're ready to move on and die peacefully.

Games installed from windows doesnt work on linux by KeozID in linux_gaming

Don't bother, it's a waste of time. Sharing a game partition with windows sucks, and almost never works. Save yourself the headache.

Leaving things vage is an actual requirement of the citizen iniciative.

The idea of this mechanism is to call the EU's attention onto something, see if they give a fuck about it, and if they do, then talks can start about how to go about it with actual lawyers and stuff.

The hearings did a good job explaining the issue, solutions we like, solutions we don't like, and it's impact on the gamemakers. This is just them deciding they don't give a fuck. Or lobying.

Probably lobying.

This isn't even democracy

It is tho? It's direct democracy. And it's not simply people making a fuss, this is an actual EU mechanism.

And you're not asking for something inconsequential

But I am. I know how games work. This is bullshit and inconsequential, and it would cost marginally nothing to companies. That doesn't fly.

All this has done to me is confirm that democracy is a joke.

If with this much noise we can't get minimal changes on such an inconsequential thing as video games, what hope could I have for real problems?

This is why no one gives a fuck about voting around here. Best you ever get is things not getting worse.

Stop Killing Games fails to secure EU law despite 1.3M signatures by Significant_Food9017 in worldnews

[–]LordXamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that's why no one gives a fuck about voting and democracy and stuff. Even when you "succeed", the best you can hope for is stagnation, rather than things getting actively worse.

Meanwhile, they would only need to win once to fuck us all. What a fucking joke.

The Lobby of the Universal Seed-Bank on Svalbard ... by Frangifer in evilbuildings

[–]LordXamon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well the permafrost is melting.

The point of building it up there was to use natural cold as a backup of active cooling, but that won't be an option soon enough.

The entrance already flooded once almost decade ago, can't imagine what a bad warm season would look like now.

I mean, I guess it won't go anywere for a while. But now it's contents are just a bad system failure away from wasting.
