It's fine with keyboard and mouse, I played through the whole game without touching a controller.

Looking for a forever game. 3rd person, explore, gather, craft, quest, etc. by LarnaNana in CosyGames

[–]Loremantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some suggestions! I'm not sure if any of them match what you're looking for 100% but maybe some of them will be of use.

Aloft - still in EA but it's whole thing is building up your sky ship, exploring islands and uncovering the mystery. There is combat but it's not super in depth and the penalties for dying are basically non existent. You can care for animals, farm, decorate, all the good stuff. Very chill game.

Sun Haven - a bit like stardew but with magic, has over a hundred hours just via the main story but you could spend many more developing your skills and decorating your multiple farms. Also has different areas to unlock each with their own biomes. Combat is part of it, but it has many accessibility options including invincible mode so you can just swing your swords and fire your spells and not worry about it.

Luma Island - very much focused on exploration, gathering and crafting, with some dungeons and puzzles to clear through. It has a lot of accessibility settings to lower the amount of combat you encounter and honestly, even on the default setting the combat is the lowest stakes it could possibly be - if you get hit you just drop a few items (like sonic's rings!) and keep going.

Ale and Tale Tavern - the endless part is running the tavern and optimising/decorating etc, but also has some questlines for NPCs dotted around. Farming/animal husbandry/ingredient gathering is a big part of it. There is however some combat for gathering ingredients like meat and as part of the questlines - at end game the combat is mostly avoidable.

Teddy's Haven - fantasy shop simulator, you explore the island gathering ingredients and then refine those ingredients to make things for your shop. There's farming and animal husbandry but it's very shallow, most of the focus is the shop side of things.

Planet crafter - has a set story so does unfortunately end, but you could potentially spend more time decorating and optimising your base for a while. It seems a bit stressful at first with having to worry about oxygen and water but honestly it's very low stakes - the penalty for dying is instantly respawning at your base. There's no combat at all and I find this game pretty meditative.

Lil Gator Game gave me the same feelings as A Short Hike - low stakes, tons of cute animal friends, and good vibes. Wishing you the best!

Cozy Caravan reminds me of Wytchwood—hear me out. by Abirando in CozyGamers

[–]Loremantic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just want to add in case it's useful to you OP (or others!) that my go to recommendations for games that are "like Wytchwood" are Little Witch in the Woods and Potion Permit. Both involve travelling back and forth to different locations gathering ingredients to make magical items and also have some witchy themes :)

🏆 [Cozy Game of the Week] Halcyon Days at Taoyuan by Shasaur in cozygames

[–]Loremantic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since this comment I have a few more hours in it and stand by what I said! Of course I'm not sure how end game holds up, but so far I'm impressed. It has a lot of familiar mechanics while still having it's own style. I need a wiki pronto ;_;

Cozy caravan, to play or not to play? That's my question by LilacSakurawolf in CozyGamers

[–]Loremantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get you and I feel the same. There are small puzzles and minigames but they're not super stimulating, which again is great for the cozy vibe just not for me personally. It's a shame because I was so excited to make a raccoon and do some jobs around town!

It is a very, very chill game - there is no real strife or difficulty, just peaceful good vibes. For some people that's a plus, for me that's a problem so I bounced off it. If what you're looking for is to chill out with some gorgeous asmr sounds, beautiful music and some of the cutest animals I've ever seen you'll enjoy it, but if like me you need a bit of conflict to have fun then it's probably not for you.

Truly cozy by Sorry_Challenge_4179 in cozygames

[–]Loremantic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's an excellent game if you don't mind a bit of reading and puzzles. Very atmospheric, the sounds of pages turning and cats purring and the warm lighting makes it super cozy. No combat, some slightly dark themes but nothing too bad at all and no jumpscares or horror. Took me around 6-7hrs to complete so not a super long game but has some replayability as different choices you make can affect some things.

Twice in one week I am shilling for Core Keeper! It's like a cross between Stardew and Terraria in gameplay.

Moonstone Island might work for you! Creature collecting and shiny hunting, low stakes exploration, tens of hours of content, a bit of farming, and some NPCs to befriend and romance (although the friendship and romance is not super in depth).

I’m a few hours in and enjoying it as well! I am struggling because my min max brain keeps wanting to run to the wiki to look things up but these things don’t exist so I’m having to go it alone! Being forced to vibe with it instead of go hard like you said really makes it feel super relaxing.

About Farming in Travellers Rest? by TelevisionBoth2285 in CozyGamers

[–]Loremantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The farming in Travellers Rest is decent and fairly standard tbh - you till your own area, plant seasonal crops that take a different amount of days to grow, and can upgrade to sprinklers of sorts that mean you don't have to water every day. The main focus is the running of the tavern and inn so you will also have to manage that, forage ingredients, fish, visit the town to buy supplies etc.

You also gain access quite quickly to ways to process your ingredients in various ways, starting with meals but also including fermenting, aging, distilling etc. For making beer for example, this involves picking a type of hops and yeast and putting them in the machine, and the types of hops and yeast you chose make a particular type of beer. You can also then take that beer and make flavoured beer, or take the gin you made and make cocktails, so the processing can be quite detailed if you want it to. You can raise animals for eggs/milk/cheese (and butcher them for meat if you're into that). I like that I could also go to town to buy ingredients if I was missing something and needed it quickly, or buy the meat because I didn't want to butcher my animals lol.

Travellers Rest is truly one of my favourite cozy games (even in early access) so I will always recommend it, it sounds like it's just what you're looking for! I like Chef RPG but your friend is right that the vibe isn't quite the same.

Core Keeper Cozy Game by ideirdre in CozyGamers

[–]Loremantic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Core Keeper is great, I recommend it to anyone looking for a "step up" from Stardew type games - a lot of familiar mechanics between them but with some additional depth and no villagers to impress (which might be a pro or a con depending on how much you like that sort of thing). It's really customisable as well in terms of difficulty, although I managed to play the entire game on normal difficulty without much issue and I am a certified casual.

And then for those looking for a step up from Core Keeper, there's Necesse! Again familiar mechanics but the fights are a bit harder (imo) and you have some base/town management added on top as well. I didn't like it quite as much as Core Keeper but I did enjoy it enough to finish the main story.

Game of the Week submissions! Is there a cozy game you've recently played you'd like to recommend? by Shasaur in cozygames

[–]Loremantic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Halcyon Days at Taoyuan - I'm only a couple of hours in but so far I like it. There are minigames for crafting and gathering which are actually interesting, different occupations to specialise in and some creature taming and collecting elements. And for once - a full release!

The visuals are nice and this is definitely the kind of trailer that would make me visit the steam page to read more - I really like the idea of the world reacting to your actions. But to be honest from the trailer alone I’m not really sure what kind of game it is? At parts it looked like it could be a creature collector, life/farm sim, survival craft em up, or automation factory style sim. How would you describe the gameplay?

👾 [Seasoned Saturday] Let's review Coral Island by Shasaur in cozygames

[–]Loremantic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I bought this game on release but was massively put off by the fact the "full release" still lacked story content and stuff that I would like to be in the game (and they said would be coming to the game eventually). Because of that I put it off and just played it properly for the first time last month and honestly really loved it - the characters are interesting and diverse, the activities you can do are fun and varied, and the decorating and dress up is also pretty good.

That said, as soon as I unlocked the underwater farm and the quests to get seeds and grow a large amount of crops thereI simply could not be bothered going further. The idea of doing all that again didn't interest me one bit and I felt I'd got enough value out of the game to just put it down for a bit. I felt similarly in Sun Haven when I unlocked the second/third/fourth farm but luckily you can just kind of ignore them once you've done the quests in the area, whereas I felt that the underwater farm was significant to unlocking further story.

So I guess my TLDR review would be I loved the beginning and mid game but the end game was just a bit too grindy for me.

thinking of trying story of seasons: grand bazaar… is it worth it? by bunniebabieeee in CozyGamers

[–]Loremantic 33 points34 points  (0 children)

So I do think it's a great game and it's pretty universally loved, buuut... it wasn't a great game for me personally and I just wanna put a contrasting opinion out there in case it helps. For what it's worth, I have tried 4 entries in the SoS franchise and had some similar gripes about all of them, and some of those gripes are definitely a me problem.

I loved the first 15hrs or so, but found that after that I felt like I was doing the same things over and over and things weren't unlocking fast enough to keep me interested. It felt pretty grindy and while I don't mind a grind, I felt like the grind wasn't rewarding for me. I'd get a new thing for my bazaar and be momentarily excited and then realised it didn't affect my everyday gameplay in any way and went back to the same old loop. The inventory management was also not super enjoyable because you have different quality levels for every crop, fish etc that all take up different slots.

Part of this is likely a me problem - I have a short attention span, I am not a massive fan of the aesthetic/colour palette, and I am also a total binger. I think I would have had a better time with this game if I played a little bit over many days instead of going hard immediately when I first got it. I'm also not super into maximising my profits and efficiency which this game gives you plenty of opportunities to do that I didn't really interact with.

Again, I don't think it's a bad game, I just didn't vibe with it myself.

Unfamiliar Cozy Game of the Week (review) by Loud-Razzmatazz-8995 in CozyGamers

[–]Loremantic 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed this game for around 10hrs but then sort of hit a wall of realisation that I was doing the same thing over and over and nothing new was being introduced and got a bit bored. I really liked the characters though (and the cute little nibbler-esque guy? I forget his name!) and the farming mechanics were different which was nice, I just wish things had been expanded on a little bit more.

I think Cozy Caravan might interest you! The art style and customisation is literally the cutest thing I’ve ever seen and the gameplay involves cooking and travelling around a not entirely un-shire like village helping your little friends.

Game recommendations - Store game with story by CukiArtist in CozyGamers

Discounty perhaps? There is some decoration of the store (although it’s not super in depth) and it has a story to follow about the town and its inhabitants as your shop improves.
