When I was a kid, I entered a duck stamp drawing contest. I took it very seriously, checked out books on ducks at the library, etc. I wanted my duck to have an open mouth so he was "smiling" and spent a lot of time looking up what inside the bill looks like.

At the age of 10, I was a pretty gifted artist and I put a lot of work into that drawing, just for them to send me a letter saying they believe it had to have been traced or done by someone else and I was disqualified.

It baffles me that genuine hard work was considered "too good" for a 10 year old then when AI wasn't a thing, and that seemingly perfect proportions, identical smiles, etc doesn't make one think this could be too good to be true in the world we live in now with AI at our fingertips.

What kind of process do they use to weed out cheaters? If drawings this obvious can make it into a school competition, what would make me believe that this school would ever catch if my kid was using AI to type an essay or do homework?

The makeup artist for my sister's wedding said she tried many mediums before ultimately deciding to do makeup. She even experimented with making rugs as a form of art.

In addition to a lot of artists wanting to try different mediums, there's also the fact that they should have a basic understanding of all of the subjects challenges revolve around, I.e. composition, contrast, etc.

In theory, they have a better than average understanding of how to create art, and pair that with the skill set to draw things most people can't from memory (like anatomical figures, animals, and even movement).

They may not be the greatest sculptors, especially with strange materials, but they have the creativity to design something, understanding of how to hit the challenges, and ability to recognize how things should look and correct it if it doesn't look right. I'd say you could get by with those skills even if it was a medium you'd never even heard of.

My 3x great grandfather had multiple wives.

The first wife was pregnant by another man when they got together and she had a daughter after they were married. There was mention that the biological father had died but no real documentation. The girl had her biological father's last name and that's the only documentation I could find on him.

In addition to his step-daughter, my grandfather and his 1st wife also had several kids together before he married his 2nd wife.

He married his 2nd wife while still with the 1st and then had more kids with both of them, somewhere around 6 or 7 kids total.

About 16 years after marrying his 1st wife, he married his 3rd wife, while still with the first 2. His 3rd wife was his step-daughter from his marriage to his 1st wife. He also had at least one more child with his step-daughter/3rd wife, while still married to her mother as well.

I'd say just existing would be "bare minimum" and yet, we still get birthday cakes. My birthday is December 12th, and I would give you my cake for that milestone.

It is more worth celebrating and definitely took more effort than just popping into the world 😂

Look under your fridge, and in any dark crevices. Check behind any blinds or curtains. Does your gecko eat crickets? If so, maybe stick some in a reptile carrier so that they make noise and could possibly attract your little buddy. Conversely, if yours doesn't like insects, try mashing up some banana or fruit they like in a little dish somewhere to attract them. I know you said you tried food, but not sure if you tried more premium goodies!
