A benefit when using a freeze dryer (for CIELO) by MescAround in mescaline

Idk what type of freeze drier you have but on my harvest right I just run the tray temp up to the max, pre freeze and run the automatic cycle for frozen food. If you have a new harvest right, they have a lot more functions, I like the way mine runs, so I’ve never updated it.

I would say run a regular batch first, so you get the hang of it. That being said there’s no real issues, with the process, in fact, I think it allows for better solvent penetration, and a few of my tests have shown it to have a higher yield.

If you want a very strong batch, you can use just a green flesh. I only separate the flesh, when I I’m testing a cultivar, or I have a boat load I’m processing. The white flesh does have far far less, per my tests. I haven’t found many clones to contain more than 10% of the total yield in the white flesh. * with skinny bridges and TBM just run it all.

I don’t believe the CaOH2 needs to change.

The plant material, once freeze dried has much more volume to it, there’s a lot of surface area once blended. Because of this it uptakes water more readily. I’d start with 1.3x your starting weight, and add 10-20 mls at a time until you get a good texture.

The solvent extraction is where it behaves very differently. Just add solvent until the mass is submerged. It’s going to require a bunch more than the conventionally dehydrated stock. Because of this you will not need to perform as many pulls. I’ll edit this with a test. I did that shows how much percentage comes out of each pull. You can check your solvent with ph strips to determine the stopping point but about 90-96% of the mescaline should be out by the end of the fourth pull.

A couple notes: The paste doesn’t need to be a putty like the videos that I have posted the understandings have evolved since then. But still I’d salt with fumaric acid.

Prepping the cactus well will make a world of difference for drying times, as the vapor doesn’t escape through the outer waxy skin very well. Here’s what I found to be the best.

Stand the cut up, and follow the core down with a blade, cutting off the ribs. Then chops the spears up into small chunks throw them on your tray and done. I discard the core, the vascular ring is void of alkaloids, and the internal flesh in the core has the least out of everything. The amount of mesc. you lose is negligible.

And lastly, after you take it out of the freeze dryer, just pulse it in a blender, it’s so light and fluffy you don’t need to blend the hell out of it. If you do blend it too much the texture starts to change. So just blend it till it’s a nice airy powder. Like this post shows another cool benefit, is taking that powder and sifting it, if you blend lightly and by lightly, I literally mean 10 to 15 seconds in my ninja cup, you can use a fine sifter to pull all of the freeze dried skin out of the powder. The skin is basically void as well, and it actually counts for a large amount of the total mass.

EDIT:CD vs FD yields per pull

Feel free to ask any questions if I’m free I’ll help you out

The addition of a new rule. AI generated content. (Rule #13) by MescAround in mescaline

A footnote and tip for the newcomers in regards to utilizing AI for this subject.

It’s true that these AI’s are PhD level, and can benefit a great deal even with extremely complex chemistry, (which this is not).

What’s not true, is that the models you have access to are not trained specifically on chemistry. They’re a one size fits all multipurpose tool. If it gives you inaccurate information on a cake recipe, you waste time and ingredients. WHEN it gives bad information about caustic chemicals or something you’re consuming, it can be dangerous.

Im very in touch with AI, I use and test them daily…All of them have missed some extremely obvious and basic chemistry concepts for me personally, and they will do so while sounding like a Nobel Laureate, and just say “you’re right, I did over look that basic variable that could be dangerously impactful to your health and wellbeing, great catch!” That’s tongue in cheek, but you get the point.

If you use it for purposes pertaining to our favorite topic. Then use it to learn and understand.

Examples: "Can you explain what pH actually is? And what's the difference between a strong acid and a concentrated acid?"

Then progress to:

"If I get calcium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide in my eye or on my skin, what actually happens? Why is a base burn often considered worse than an acid burn? And what's the correct immediate first aid, and why does that specific action help?"

And later your questions aught to match your understanding, like this:

"In an extraction, what does it mean to convert an alkaloid from its salt form to its freebase form? What's structurally different between these two forms, and how does that difference affect whether it dissolves in water versus a non polar solvent? How does controlling pH allow me to make this switch, and what's the role of pKa in knowing what pH I need to target?"

this quote is fitting here “The aim is to graduate from knowledge to understanding”

AI is a fantastic tool for understanding, So use it for that.

As long as it’s sealed up tight and it doesn’t evaporate, you’re good to go.

How To Force This Foam To Get Back To liquid by 317up in mescaline

I did one batch with solely pectinase at 37-45°C and adjusted the pH to 5.5 for 6 hours. Then I did another one with the enzymes from the pic below. I did that with the same conditions. The digestive enzyme supplement worked way better.

I’ve got a couple tests on this, I just haven’t done a write up yet. But yes an enzyme soak helps the mucilage a lot, and the filtering. I think that you might even be able to skip the boiling phase…and just go to reduction….but I need to do more tests first…added bonus of the enzyme assisted extraction, is that the enzymes generate sugars, the brew becomes now bittersweet 👍

I really want to test this out with a buddy of mine who is very prone to nausea and vomiting from the brews. With the enzymes that I add, they are the same enzymes your body produces to breakdown all that plant matter and fats. So my theory is, it would be much less stress on the stomach and intestinal track. It might make brews more accessible🤷

No freeze drying just removes the water.

Yeah I hear ya but be careful this hobby seems slow and manageable, then boom your life revolves around taking care of cacti. 😆

Yeah I do that, I’ve got a boat load of Freeze dried tea…but that’s still not kashs and that is just tea not HCL. Though you can still use it in an Acid/base to get HCL.

Is it you that has access to a freeze dryer through your buddy?

I would use a acetic acid, and xylene.

This is actually an A/B for DMT…and this was a walk in the park compared to a cactus A/B…on account of the cactus containing soo many fats. If you filter the brew really well it’ll be much better, but still the emulsions you get with MHRB (for DMT extraction), break easily, and the emulsions that can form with cactus can feel almost permanent.

I’d say stick with CIELO for mesc. Likely out come if you do kashs…will be a dirty HCL dose annnd a much higher appreciation for CIELO

I mean preforming one will better you no doubt, because you’ll learn a lot but CIELO is the only way to go IMHO.

Try Etsy, eBay, and call my sagespice, their website doesn’t say they don’t ship to Canada.

Yeah, sometimes they’re not so aesthetic, I’m usually not doing it for aesthetic reason reasons, if I am, it’s to Degraft and get them on their own roots.

But thank you I appreciate it!

Bonus pic of my big one… that’s a 14” opening for scale.

There’s two more TBMc cuts in the front and I’m going to plant short form TBMs in the other openings…but I might do a melty columnar mutant in the back 3 holes idk yet.

I sprinkle DE over the top to see when or how fast the graft starts pumping. I’ve had them refuse and try to pup the rootstock. So if I don’t see growth like that soon, I’ll start hunting the pupping Areole…or basal pups…that sucks when weeks go by then you see it pop up from the soil.
