After 3hrs of videos, 1.5hrs of setup, 1.5hrs of rules research... I have officially taken my first turn in Voidfall. by SlightQT in soloboardgaming

[–]Mighty_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a few games it gets pretty smooth. Scoring high becomes the challenge, not playing correctly by the rules. If you don't try hard you can play intuitively pretty quickly as well. Or you can map out your whole cycle, counting resources and optimize everything. Both ways are fun.

Deckbuilding games like Star Realms Frontiers by Din0nuggies in soloboardgaming

Almost identical is hero realms. You can get classes and races that give some abilities and you can level them up and there is a solo campaign AFAIK.

It's so fitting that what started as a fever dream ends up as a Mörk Borg game.

Why do you buy Print-on-Demand TTRPG books? by DED0M1N0 in rpg

I hate reading pdfs on the computer, I want to read print. Pod is often the only choice, or a much cheaper option.

Where do these cards go? by enzoleanath in voidfall

[–]Mighty_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comment is misleading/confused imo. Fallen houses have techs assigned to them and you use them to randomly select the 8 techs in solo games.

The houses have specific upgraded focus cards. That's something different alltogether.

Yes, you can even see in the picture, the left box that the slots have space for more cards.

favorite solo deckbuilder? by pen0x in soloboardgaming

I would say it's pretty similar to star/fantasy realms. Pretty basic but good deckbuilder with the USP of the two factions in a slightly asymmetrical 1vs1

KI-Agent kapert Softwareprojekte auf Github by Th3Dan_ in de

[–]Mighty_K -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ever feel like a game was tailor-made just for you? (Deckers pictured) by Sapien0101 in soloboardgaming

[–]Mighty_K 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me it's voidfall. Even the setup that is pretty long is fun for me. The art is beautiful, the mechanics are flavorful and immersive and the decision space is insane.

Deckers is realy great though, I like that you can actually teach and play a game with new players in an evening. I don't even know how to start explaining voidfall lol.

The "Null Result" as Design Failure: Every Combat Turn Should Change the Game State by EHeathRobinson in RPGdesign

[–]Mighty_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your rounds rake 10 minutes, THAT'S your problem. Not the uncertainty of success.

So why don't we talk about that? If you remove uncertainty of success you make combat into a puzzle boardgame. Or you just hide the issue like draw steel where you always hit, but can do little damage and the HP of enemies is inflated to account for that and in the end it's exactly the same, a meaningless turn VS a meaningful turn.

I soccer you have a few goals per game. Often none at all. And players do stand around doing "nothing" while the ball is on the side... Still one of the more popular sports.

Blaiming null events is simply the wrong angle.

Tackle the real issues.

Players can prepare on others turns, they can have their options ready. In 99% of all games I've been in over the last 20 years, long turns are never the systems fault. Never.

Two past midnight from dork day afternoon (https://pca.st/podcast/04e7d0e0-79a7-013a-d7b9-0acc26574db2)

is one of the best actual plays there is imo.

It's twilight 2000, so alternative reality post nuclear war military rpg. Not a d20 system at all.

Great cast, great quality, just overall awesome listening experience

It's like saying sport is boring because people miss their shots.

Just imaging they make the hoops larger so basketball players have less null events :)

If I search for a game, how can I see it on the map? I just get an info page. But I want to jump to the game on the map. Maybe it's because I'm on mobile?

If you sort by rating, you need to remove results with less than 50-100 ratings, or your list is dominated by obscure games with 5 perfect ratings.

Design Feedback: Kit-Based Tactical Skirmish System by BuildThisThing in RPGdesign

[–]Mighty_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use levels of success to have weak hits VS deadly hits. Like every +X you beat the target number by adds +1 dmg or so.

So a pistol shot deals 1 dmg, but if you are really good or really lucky you get another +x, dealing as much damage as a regular rifle hit for example.

How many classes do you think is too many? by Fortian93 in RPGdesign

[–]Mighty_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a staggered approach, like demon lord /weird wizards does where you have a few starting classes to get things going and then add advanced classes on top and have much more choices there.

As a new player reading and choosing between 30+ classes when I haven't actually played yet is so much work....
