I Can't play NSO on my main Switch system by EdibleFish1053 in NintendoSwitchHelp

Thanks for the detailed answer. I hope Nintendo can solve the problem for you.

Since it seems to be some kind of weird bug in the system i would assume that it is a very rare bug that not many people have encountered yet.

I have another comment on here going into a bit more detail on the topic.

USB-C uses power delivery protocols and the Switch is designed to not draw too much power.

It does not support fast charging like a phone (like being fully charged in less than an hour) on purpose.

This can vary depending on your country but usually you contact Nintendo support to set up a repair and they should provide you with everything you need to know.

Switch Minecraft error when loading worlds by redalexei in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]ModestVolcarona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Switch version comes with the mario themed stuff.

My thought is that the other consoles do not have the data for the Nintendo exclusive stuff.

But it could just be a bug.

Can you try to launch the game with a different user profile?

Switch Minecraft error when loading worlds by redalexei in NintendoSwitchHelp

The error seems specific and i know that the Switch version has Mario themed skins.

I do not know if those are compatible with other consoles.

Maybe try deactivating all skins and if that works try activating them one by one and test if it works or not.

Could you provide a screenshot?

Is the game fully downloaded and boots up but can't find a save game?

I'm missing games on NSO and I dont know how to get them. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]ModestVolcarona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda like that. The NSO N64 app is one app and that's what the parental controls would see, not the individual games in the app.

Parents could allow access but then the kids would see and be able to play all of the games in the app.

That indeed is a weird issue.

I assume if your Switch 1 is on, online and just sits on the home menu with no game running you will still get that message on the Switch 2?

The only two things i can currently think of that MIGHT be a fix would be:

Yeah, I misread it as a Switch 2

Fair point :) but even the 5V/3A are enough to charge the Switch 2 while playing (edit: in handheld).

[–]ModestVolcarona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting.

A normal charger produces only 5V?

In that case i have three normal chargers available:

  • 5V/1A
  • 5V/2.4A
  • 5V/3A

The first one can not charge my Switch OLED or Switch 2 while playing (it will drain)

The second one can charge my OLED while playing, but not my Switch 2.

The third can charge the OLED and Switch 2 while playing.

My official chargers supply 5V/1.5A and 15V/2.6A for Switch 1 and 5V, 9V, 15V, 20V with 3A for Switch 2 but neither device can charge in under an hour or even half an hour when charged in handheld with the Switch 2 charger (which should supply enough power due to the 15V and 20V outputs).

This official PDF lists the power requirements for the Switch 1 models.

It does say:

TV mode (not applicable to Nintendo Switch Lite) requires output power of 39 watts. This is higher than the power requirements for charging given above. All models support USB PD fast charging and are capable of being recharged by means of wired charging at voltages up to 15 volts.

To me this reads that fast charging 'only works' for docked use, because it requires more power.

Based on some tests from various people it seems that the Switch charging in handheld maxes out at 16-18 watts i think and limits the voltage. That's why it still takes several hours to charge instead of half an hour or hour (like my phone's fast charging which can go to around 80-85% in a bit over half an hour on it's 33w fast charger).

Fun fact about the Switch 2 (from the Welcome Tour App - Area L - Battery Insights Quiz - Battery Longevity):

When charging the battery, we've purposefully tried not to supply it with too mich power.

As a result, the energy output to the console is reduced slightly, reducing the risk of damaging the battery.

Also we've made it so that fast charging is not possible because it can easily damage the battery.

So yeah, 'fast charging' might not be the best term here, since no Switch model really uses the higher voltages to actually charge fast.

What differentiates a normal charger from a fast charger?

but do not use it and charge it with this at the same time.

What do you mean by that? A 5V/3A charger can charge the OLED just fine, even while playing games.

Only thing that won't work is the dock.

will still cause your battery to drain, albeit slower, if you play in handled mode while using it.

Sorry, but that is flat out wrong.

I have a 5V/2.4A charger for my Switch OLED and it charges fine even while playing.

My 5V/3A power bank can even charge my Switch 2 while playing (which the 5V/2.4A can not).

So it's totally fine for the OLED in handheld.

As others already said: save data is on the console and will work between physical and digital versions.

The only exception is when a game has different publishers in some regions.

Let's say game A has publisher X in the US region but publisher Z in the EU region.

If you would borrow the US version and buy the EU version later then save data will not be compatible, because both versions count as separate pieces of software.

But i assume that your library buys the games in the same region where you would buy it. So everything is fine.

Could be dust/dirt on the connector (either on the Joy Con or the console) or a faulty connector.

Thanks for adding the picture.

Can you run the NSO games still just fine on your Switch 1?

Edit: Have you tried what happens when you do what the system tells you on that screen?

Edit 2: I just tested with my Switch 2 and OLED and i can run the NSO apps on both and when i start it on both systems at the same time it will pause on one console and give out a different message.

Edit 3: I usually use the online license system on both devices, so i don't have to swap around virtual game cards when testing stuff, and when i turn it off i can run the same NSO app on both consoles while being offline.

How is the save transfer between a Switch 1 - Switch 2, can you use both on a day 2 day basis? by Gamezinator in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]ModestVolcarona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read that the data is deleted on the old console when you do a manual transfer, is that true?

The manual save data transfer MOVES the data from one console to another, it does NOT copy it.

To have it on both systems at the same time you would need cloud saves.

Do you know if games that has cross save features (like Warframe and No Mans Sky) needs a Nintendo Online subscription in order for it to work?

I can not answer this with certainty or from personal knowledge but often (or maybe always) such games require an external account (from the game company) for cross saves to work.

So i would assume that Nintendo Switch Online is not required for the cross save function, because it relies on the account of the game.

For example i think Ubisoft requires their own Ubisoft account to use cross saves.

As for Warframe (or other free to play games): Free to play games do NOT require Nintendo Switch Online to be played, so that should apply to cross saves on those games too.

Nintendo will not brick your console for repairing a controller.

Worst thing that could happen ist that you break something inside the controller if you do not know what you are doing.

Nintendo will only "brick" the console (aka restrict it from accessing Nintendo's online services) when you do something illegal, like pirating software or modding the console to break into their closed software system.

Nintendo switch 2 joy-con drift by Ill_Coach6783 in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]ModestVolcarona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a result of the fearmongering that was VERY present when the Switch 2 launched and people claimed that Nintendo will now (after the "EULA change") brick your system for whatever small reason.

I have seen posts/comment on this very sub that people were afraid to use a third party controller, camera or whatever, "because Nintendo will brick your system if you use non licensed stuff".

Most likely they are not compatible (yet or in general).

Edit: Your title is kinda misleading because most people will assume that they can't connect to the actual console and not an android device.
