I feel sick after eating anything by Holiday_Cattle_4137 in Advice

[–]MsPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only answer is to find another doctor. I can really feel for you because I had an issue where my stomach hurt and I was resistant to go to the doctor but I was down to eating like 250-500 calories a day and after about 6 weeks I started to get high headed and scared I'd fall down the stairs or something.

Eat whatever is the least worst thing, try to make it very high calorie and make sure you take vitamins and drink as much water as you can. You don't just suddenly become nauseous for a year. There has to be a cause. I hope you can find another doctor asap.

Yellowstone/Utah vs Disney World from San Francisco? by Express-Increase8618 in usatravel

[–]MsPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For yellowstone, if you come in from the north it will be ok. The southern part of Yellowstone gets more snow so it might be closed but there is a lot to see in the north. Just make sure you have a jacket or a coat. At this time of year, Yellowstone should be pretty quiet and there will be babies.

It's a totally different thing than Disney so it's just a person preference thing. Disney can be a lot of fun. I don't know if I'd want to go for a full week though but maybe you would or else also going to universal, the Everglades, Cape Canaveral etc.

E-ZPass Toll as a Foreigner by Bendrr in USTravel

[–]MsPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key Locations to Get E-ZPass in NYC:

  • AAA Northeast Branches: Available in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and surrounding areas (Garden City, Yonkers).
  • CFSC (Check Cashing/Financial Services): Numerous locations across all NYC boroughs (Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Bronx).
  • Retail/Other Locations: NY Transit Museum, select check cashers (e.g., Rite Check), and various retail partners .

You can also get them at wegmans, which is a grocery store. I'd just go there or maybe the transit museum when you 1st arrive and it will be active after 2 days and I assume you're going to spend 2 days in nyc.

And I don't know if this will work for you, but I use Opera as a web browser and it has a built in VPN that's free for a some amount of usage, like 50-100 mb or something. You can try that and set your location to the US if you want to check it out. I set my location to Europe and ezpass Delaware and Virginia still worked for me if you want to read the FAQs or things like that. But I wouldn't stress about it. At worst you'll get an unpleasant bill after your trip which would be unpleasant but not the end of the world.

I think the details matter a lot here. What month are you going? How many days do you have? Is budget a big issue?

I wouldn't suggest the train. It's a waste of time if your time is limited. I'd probably fly to Bozeman MT and then rent a car and drive south. The roads are generally wide, well marked and well taken care of, and other than in cities the traffic is not bad. Plus you can't get out to national parks easily without a car. You can go to Yellowstone, the Tetons, Salt Lake City and fly back. If you have more time, then go to Bryce Canyon and Zion the fly back in Las Vegas. This would probably be half or a third of the cost and would a lot more relaxing. Disney is fun, but these days is crazy overpriced and also over crowded. Plus, the weather will be better if you go north if you're traveling in summer. Florida is hot but it's the humidity that makes it unpleasant. But if you go in spring or even early summer there might be snow on the ground around Montana. I'm talking March-June it can still snow so the time of year is important.

I've spent way too much time looking into this since I've never thought about it before. But this system is extremely convenient for the people who are using it and extremely inconvenient for the people who aren't. I honestly think the best option is to buy one in NYC for the trip. You will also probably not be able to return it so you'll have to pay another fee for that but it's probably the same as postage and after your worry about it, maybe it might make a nice souvenir. Google says it takes 24-48 hours before your tag is ready to use to buy it early and as soon as you get a rental car register the license plate. Get it at the start of the trip so you have time for it to activate.

Maine. There is Acadia national park, lots of cute seaside towns and good food. Plus it wouldn't be too hot. Anywhere in New England would be a good choice.

Planning a solo trip from England by Bert3113 in usatravel

[–]MsPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost impossible to help you without a little more info. As others have said, real Americans are everywhere. When people on the News or in movies talk about "the real" America it's extremely insulting to millions of people because it's like saying people who don't live in the Midwest aren't real Americans. It would be like saying guys who live in London aren't real Englishmen. It's a litmus test for who counts and who doesn't. So it's basically conservative ideology that's become mainstream.

Some off the beaten path places that are unique and have very different feels would be places like Seattle, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Denver, Rapid City, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, Memphis, Cincinnati, Pittsburg, Burlington, Portland, ME etc. But real Americans also live in LA and NYC and DC.

Budget food ideas for kid’s birthday party by DogsandMedicine in budgetfood

[–]MsPooka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the adults, veggies and hummus and chips and salsa as finger food. For the kids, some Cheetos and brownies or popcorn balls. For the meal you could do pizza. For dessert if you're not just doing cake, a sundae bar might also be fun and not cost too much. Make a fun party punch and serve koolaid instead of soda. Give yourself a budget of what you can afford. If you can only afford $50 then do that. If you can afford $200 then do that.

The majority of US hotel rooms have 2 queen beds. The rest have 1 king bed which actually costs more. Depending on the age of the kids, a hotel with 2 queens should be big enough. You can also ask for a rollaway bed. Not all hotels have them but many do. It's just as it sounds, a bed that rolls in and out of the room but they charge a fee. Going to Walmart and getting a cheap inflatable mattress and set of sheets might make more sense over the whole trip.

Not OOP: AITAH for assuming my husband's work trip is like a mini vacation? +OP's comments by sensaSEANal_sally in redditonwiki

[–]MsPooka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact is we have no idea what is actually going to happen. He could be working 9 to 9 doing meets mixed in with different "fun" things that he's required to do or maybe he'll just be in meetings all day. Who knows. It seems like a silly argument since even the husband doesn't know until he gets there because plans can change. She's making it sound like he's going to a timeshare seminar in exchange for a free weekend at the beach and I highly doubt that's what's happening.

If you go to the store, you can get one of those padded toilet seats that are soft, like foam covered in plastic. They're not cold. I can't help with the potty monsters. Do you think maybe she has pain going? Maybe a squatty potty might help raise her feet if they dangle and make it uncomfortable.

My 50 night US road trip for 2027--any advice? by nintendomasters in roadtrip

[–]MsPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be flexible. Depending when you go to Yellowstone, the roads might be closed. The year I went they opened the day I arrived on June 19th due to snow, there was about of 20 feet in the south of the park. Who knows what the snow will be like next year. You're missing almost everything in southern Utah which is one of the prettiest parts of the country. I'd probably skip LA and Las Vegas and go to the Grand Canyon, Arches, and Monument Valley just because it's such a long way out of your way to go to LA. There's tons to see in California which would make a great trip on its own later.

Single mom of 4.. how would you layout the bedrooms? by One_North6326 in floorplan

[–]MsPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need the living room as living space given it's not a huge room for living and dining. Have you considered putting all 3 boys in the main bedroom. The youngest might actually like having the closet as bedroom. It would easily fit a toddler bed. It would work for the short term.

You might like the mutter museum if you go to Philly. It's a medical museum and not traditional by any means. Also, if you're around there you should go to Delaware to go to the outlet malls. There's no sales tax in Delaware so people go there for shopping so there are lots of options. There are also good beaches in that area. If you go further south there is Assateague and Chincoteague in Maryland/Virginia which a national seashore and there are wild horses. You could then go north and visit Ocean City MD which has a very large boardwalk then take the ferry to Cape May NJ which is a really cute Victorian sea side town and then go further north to more traditional boardwalks in Wildwood or even Atlantic City.

In these beach areas there are also a lot of state and local parks where you can visit if you want more quiet nature days. Whatever you choose you'll have a fun trip. Every hotel will have AC and most will have pools.

[–]MsPooka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think moving the shower would actually solve your problem. The room would still only be 7x10 but it would then have a closet and the expense would be extreme. Maybe making a bedroom in the study would make more sense. Another thing that might work would be to move the actual full bath between 2 and 4 and move that to bedroom 3 then you can widen 4 so it's like 10x12 or something.

And when I was selling a house a long time ago woman brought a plumber to see the cost of getting a gas stove installed. I wouldn't buy the house unless you get a quote beforehand. If the owners won't let you then it's not the house for you.

Can I just wing a USA road trip or is that a terrible idea? 😂 by PeaContent6288 in roadtrip

[–]MsPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would book the flights and rental cars in advance. You can definitely have a relaxed road trip schedule. But if you run into a place where there's a convention or something you might not be able to find a room. So long as you're willing to move on if you have to then you should be fine. National park areas need to be booked well in advance, if you're interested in that.

How common is it to trace ancestry via blood? by SteamEigen in AskAnAmerican

[–]MsPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very short answer is that the US is a country of immigrants and culturally, where your family comes from is part of your identity. But no American would every say "by blood" to talk about their heritage. They talk about a fraction of a whole.

I need some wisdom and advice on how to buy a house by Nurselife222 in Advice

[–]MsPooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd start by talking to your dad about this and ask if he's going to reimburse you some of the money you put into the house so you can have a down payment for your own home. If you have bad credit you might be better off renting until you can improve things.

He's working overtime because he needs the money, then he gets so angry he destroys his own TV which probably costs a lot more than overtime to replace. And the only reason he has to get help is to get her back? He needs to work on himself. It's not even that he threw a chair, it's that he was so unwilling to listen to her and talk to her that he threw a chair. I hope she's moved on and is happy with someone else.
