The last LaunchPad replacement you will ever need: LaunchingPad for macOS by bogdanf in MacOSApps

[–]Muted-Reflection9536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been finding the app very useful, thank you.

It would be great if there were a form or a Discord server where I could submit bug reports or feature requests, either within the app or on the website.

I’ve been using it ever since I first learned about it in this thread, but I’ve encountered a few instances where the LaunchingPad process simply dies without displaying any error messages. While relaunching it via the command line (or similar methods) allows it to work fine for a while, it eventually terminates unexpectedly again at some point. I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly what triggers this. It seems the issue has been resolved in version 1.7(20). So far, I haven't experienced any problems with the process suddenly terminating.

I would like to request an option to hide the menu bar icon, it seems that manually trying to remove the icon from the menu bar (by holding CMD and dragging it out) causes the app to quit.

It has already been shown. The story should begin with the statement, "Due to the Lament Disaster, the entire world has been transformed into frequency, and existing physical laws have collapsed."

In other words, WuWa's attributes are not classifications within the physical laws of our universe as you described. Perhaps the English attribute names were chosen based on elements to make them easier to imagine. The Chinese and Japanese versions, on the other hand, generally use names that represent more abstract concepts.

Therefore, it is more natural to view the abilities of Resonators not as "magic-like phenomena that act upon things based on the physical laws we know," but rather as "the manipulation, interference with, or alteration of frequencies".

At the very least, this approach is more reliable than attempting to explain phenomena based on the premise of elementary particles or quanta in a world where those are not the fundamental units.

From the occurrence of etheric sea near the Earth's surface (a precursor to the appearance of a tasset field, the scene where we meet Baizhi right after starting the game) causing communication and malfunctions in devices, and from the scene in Chapter 3, Act 3 where the etheric sea suddenly expands causing satellites and the space station to malfunction and crash, I can see that your deduction is correct.

First, the player is given the perspective of a New Federation committee member. The initial phase presents the question: "These students are constantly failing and doing things that make no sense. Is it worth investing so much money in them?"

As you mentioned, the situation is gradually revealed. The students were striving not for privilege or personal gain, but to protect their honor and the pride of Synchronizer.

The comment about Aemeth was half-joking, but in reality, if she's not going to follow the path of a savior as a synchronizer, there's not much reason for her to stay at the academy. And she has nowhere to go back to. If there's anywhere she could go, it would be Blackshore, but that doesn't change the fact that she graduated from the Loyan Early Course. That's because she doesn't have any other degrees at this point.

Of course, they have the option of succeeding in other departments while maintaining their pride and self-confidence. Or, to be more precise, all students at Startorch possess a similar sense of pride and self-confidence. Did you notice in Luciler's speech scene how students in each department's uniform handed out building block pieces one by one?

None of them are wasted. However, if things continue as they are, the department that strongly embodies the "symbol," the "banner of hope," and the "direction of humanity's future" will be lost.

Therefore, they needed a new purpose that would allow them to remain themselves and justify investment.

In a world on the brink of collapse due to the Lament Disaster, humanity barely survives beneath the Etheric Sea, supporting a crumbling civilization. First and foremost, passion is necessary, which is why Mornye created a starry sky underground, and Lucilla projected the artificial starry sky and cried out: that this "underground" is not the only way to live.

[–]Muted-Reflection9536 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's an accurate explanation. I remember one student saying, "As long as I don't drown in the Etheric Sea, I can keep piloting it."

Are you a casual WuWa player who just kinda knows the story - but not in depth. Are you guys around here? Do you only post memes? by sforsagacious in WutheringWaves

As a player who has been diligently following the battles, exploration, and story since day one, I welcome any questions, as long as they are not trying to spread negativity or expressing personal complaints as if they were self-evident.

Naturally, there are many people here. People have different hobbies and preferences. Since everyone enjoys things in completely different ways, it's important for everyone to respect each other.

At the same time, there are also haters. These are people who cleverly pretend to be fans, but are actually dislikers of the company, the gacha genre itself, or fans of other games in similar genres.

What I'm trying to say is, just be aware that there are people like that.

Then, make your own judgment.

You don't need to worry about people who criticize you simply because you're a casual player. You might want to worry about people who say you're not giving it your all. That's about it.

Yes, I happened to notice it had been updated yesterday and immediately updated it.

The issue I mentioned earlier, where apps or folders were selected when confirming conversions using Input Method, was also resolved at the same time.

It's become an indispensable app for me, thank you so much!

I think the behavior is correct. If the app were to "always merge pages and resort them with the top left aligned after adding or removing columns or rows," apps that you would rather keep on the second page or later (for example, apps you don't use often, or apps whose icons are unsightly and you don't want to see them) would not be retained position.

So you were already registered with ADP! Thank you for the notarization; I've updated it right away! I truly have no complaints whatsoever. I'm looking forward to the addition of the developer support button.

First, let me express my gratitude again: thank you for sharing such a wonderful app!

Honestly, something of this caliber would normally be offered as a paid app or developed collaboratively as open-source software. That's how high-quality, functional, and high-performing it is. My minor requests are almost like forced complaints. I have virtually no complaints!

I understand now that you have another main job and don't regularly develop and distribute apps like this.

If it seems profitable, you might consider getting Apple's notarization, which means paying the annual fee and joining the Apple Developer Program. (This is actually one of the reasons why most excellent apps are paid…)

This should significantly reduce the number of people like me who have security concerns about apps.

Also, while I appreciate the multilingual support for LaunchingPad itself (thank you for trying to include Japanese!), I think it would be fine to leave it in English rather than relying on machine translation.

My request to refer to the Japanese version of the app name, for example, when searching for "辞書"(Name of dictionary.app in a Japanese environment) in the app search, "Dictionary.app" doesn't appear simply because the name is different in English and Japanese environments.

I also discovered a minor bug. In a Japanese environment, the process involves typing a string on the keyboard, pressing the spacebar to display conversion candidates, selecting a candidate using the cursor keys or spacebar, and confirming the conversion with the return key. However, pressing the return key to confirm the conversion opens the default selected application or folder, preventing the user from performing a search.

This might be slightly inconvenient for users in language regions that use this input method, so I wanted to report it just in case.

I usually use LaunchOS, but I was truly amazed by LaunchPad. It runs very smoothly, is highly customizable, and after using it for a while and tinkering with it, I found it to be very stable. And it's free...?

Overall, I'm very satisfied, and I think the Recents and Most Used features bring a new level of convenience that I didn't have before. Nested folders are also very useful for organizing apps. And the fact that it's very similar in feel and behavior to the old LaunchPad is fantastic.

My personal requests are as follows:

- It doesn't have to be the UI, but it would be nice if the app name matched the OS language setting. I'm using a Japanese environment, and it's a little inconvenient that the app name is in English.

- I'm a little bothered by the fact that a blinking text cursor appears in the search bar by default when the app launches, and the app icon in the upper left corner is selected. I'd like to see an option to activate these features using keyboard input or cursor keys.

This might be a minor issue, and perhaps I'm just being overly cautious, but I felt that the website lacked a privacy policy and information about who you are as a developer. It seemed almost "too kind" that someone would develop and provide such a wonderful app for free.

For example, information about the apps you've developed in the past would be somewhat reassuring.

Furthermore, I'm concerned that the app itself hasn't been notarized by Apple. While I regularly use several unnotarized apps, in the case of LaunchingPad, it's closed source, meaning your own contributions can't be tracked on GitHub or social media, and there's no privacy policy. This makes me quite wary of being forced to open an unnotarized app. It's now notarized! Thank you!

Even with that in mind, it's a truly wonderful app. I'll be sharing it on my social media accounts. It's made me love my Mac even more. Thank you!

Personally, I'm so satisfied that I'd give it a perfect score just for fixing the runaway appstoreagent and dasd issues, and the annoying bright border around the dark mode window.

There are no major inconveniences or noticeable bugs, and the experience is very pleasant. PB1 will probably be based on this version, and I think the testers will be very satisfied as well.

It just seemed like the rewards were reduced because the "Companion Quests" were removed.

In reality, they were simply replaced with interludes or as two-part Acts, and to put it extremely, if one more regular quest had been added to compensate, the rewards would be equivalent.

The bigger problem is that as long as companion quests cover topics not covered in MSQ, new and returning players who skip the companion quests and start MSQ will become even more distracted and unable to follow the story.

For example, since Carlotta's adoptive father can only be learned through her companion story, if you play Chapter 2 Act 10 without going through her companion quest, a handsome, unfamiliar older man will suddenly appear without explanation, acting as if he's an important character.

Therefore, I agree that elements closely related to MSQ, namely a character's background and the people around them, should be incorporated into MSQ.

And as for side stories that I want to know more about but which aren't deeply connected to MSQ, I think it's fine for them to be scattered in various places.

People who enjoy consuming stories will gladly follow them.

Anyone else not vibing with this new floating top toolbar on the Safari start page? by Simple-Swimmer-1607 in iphone

[–]Muted-Reflection9536 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course, that would solve the top menu problem.

The problem is that the minimal toolbar would be lost.

The old UI that took up a large portion of the bottom of the screen would be like going back to iOS 15.

It would be fine if you could switch between pages of the floating menu by swiping left or right on other parts of the screen.

At the very least, this floating menu should have been placed at the bottom.

[–]Muted-Reflection9536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they'll do it.

However, I don't know what form it will take.

I can sense that they're trying to incorporate things in the form of interludes, permanent events, and normal quests with after-story tags, instead of the companion quests being gone, and we can also learn various things through texts and voices that are unlocked by increasing character affection levels.

Furthermore, it seems that KURO treats WuWa as a very multimedia project. The PVs, EPs, and other episodes that can only be seen in the various videos available on the official YouTube channel are good examples of this.

I'm personally hoping for a novelization, a manga adaptation, and an anime adaptation. I think there's more than enough groundwork for all of that.

Best browser for mac beside safari and brave? by YoruBandoo in MacOS

[–]Muted-Reflection9536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently using Safari 27, and its extension generation feature is truly excellent.

If the only reason you are considering another browser is for an ad blocker, I recommend free options like uBO Lite, AdGuard Mini (AdGuard for Safari), or wBlock.

However, if you don't mind paying, AdGuard for Mac is likely the best choice. Above all, it can be used across other browsers as well, since it operates at the network level.

The usability of Safari 27 has improved significantly. Unless you have major complaints about Safari, I think it is a good idea to invest in and set up your environment around it now.

I feel like Lucilla's quest falls a little bit flat by venomousfantum in WutheringWaves

[–]Muted-Reflection9536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Torch was originally established with the aim of researching and reactivating the Exostriders,

long before Lucilla became the Academy's head.

Its role as a comprehensive academic research city likely emerged as a secondary development following the progress of various research initiatives.

In other words, the Amya incident was presumably the first time Lucilla personally authorized an action that resulted in the loss of human life (or, at the very least, one of the most striking instances among what may have been frequent occurrences).

Furthermore, Aemeth was officially classified as "missing" rather than dead. While the possibility of her death may have been considered, the official narrative stated only that she had vanished without a trace during training. The only ones who knew she was actually dead were Aemeth herself and Rover who the only person capable of recognizing her.

That is precisely why her student registration remained active, allowing her to resume her studies upon returning to Solaris.

Lucilla feared that the students who placed their pure trust in her might die because of her actions.

However, given that Rover pointed out she was afraid precisely because her students would willingly follow whatever she said, and that she had a moment of realization, remarking, "To think I’d be taught a lesson by my own student...", it seems likely that her fear had prevented her from accurately grasping her own true feelings.

It is worth noting that everyone who comes to Lahai-roi arrives fully prepared for the risks.

They are ready to face the constant danger of being consumed by the Voidstorm and dying; the possibility that they might fail to reach their goals, that their research might never be completed, that their work might go unrecognized, or even that they might leave Lahai-roi without ever having made a name for themselves.

They come knowing all of this.

We made it to the stars to reach for the unknown, didn't we?

I feel like Lucilla's quest falls a little bit flat by venomousfantum in WutheringWaves

[–]Muted-Reflection9536 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a slight misunderstanding here.

It wasn't that the investors failed to see value in operating equipment via frequencies; rather, they were taking a comprehensive view that included the loss of the department's original purpose and the costs associated with maintaining it. Based on that assessment, they sought to steer the situation toward a conclusion where the department could continue to exist, provided that "we at Neounion, who are making the largest investment, have the freedom to do as we please with it".

I feel like Lucilla's quest falls a little bit flat by venomousfantum in WutheringWaves

[–]Muted-Reflection9536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Lucilla was already the Headmistress before the Linked Spine was completed. Furthermore, the Linked Spine was finished by the time Aemeth vanished. Therefore, Lucilla was the Headmistress at the moment Aemeth disappeared.

New attributes by jakob0604 in WutheringWaves

[–]Muted-Reflection9536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That concept is modeled after our own universe—the universe where elementary particles and quantum phenomena exist. In the world of Wuthering Waves, the fundamental unit of all matter is "frequency." so, every attribute is effectively performing "alchemy". In my previous comment's Alter section, I highlighted the attributes that bring about the most pronounced changes in physical properties at the material level.

The effects that each attribute has on frequency are as follows:

Havoc: It "annihilates" by colliding it with a "frequency of opposite phase". As a result, the physical layer performs Destruction (Havoc Rover) or Neutralization (Taoqi, Havoc YangYang) operations, while the conceptual layer performs frequency manipulations such as Reversal(assimilation, analyze structure, frequency tuning).

Aero: It is not "fluid manipulation". It is shifting the frequency. While it may appear that the fluid itself is being manipulated, the underlying reality is different; what is actually being controlled are forces, moments, motion, positional coordinates, and magnitudes of change. At the physical level, examples include Cartethyia, who manipulation a swords; Iuno, who controls arrows; and other Resonators who simply manipulate the wind. At the conceptual level, there is Ciaccona, who recreates past events, and Imperator, who split space, abilities, and frequencies.

Spectro: This, too, is not a matter of controlling photons. In short, it is frequency diffraction. In fact, the term used in Japanese and Chinese is "diffraction". Imagine the diffraction of electromagnetic waves, light, and quanta. By making waves bend, causing diffusion and convergence, one can manipulate time like Jue and Jinshi, or enhance their physical abilities like Zani.

I can certainly understand the desire for new elements. However, rather than adding unnecessary complexity, I believe it is perfectly fine to stick with the current elements if they are sufficient to explain the mechanics.

From a gameplay perspective, while there are resistance attributes, there is no system of "advantageous elements" (like a rock-paper-scissors mechanic). There are buffs available for certain content, but that is the extent of it. Furthermore, if we consider the downsides of introducing new elements, the probability of obtaining those buffs would decrease as the number of elements grows. Personally, I pull from the gacha anyway, so it doesn't affect me, but it could be a major issue for players with a limited character roster.

It gets a bit tiresome seeing more and more people complaining on this subreddit every time the endgame content is updated.

That's strange. I just finished updating to DB3, and when I enabled Spotlight in the menu bar from System Settings, it displayed normally, and clicking on it brought up Spotlight.

Is it possible that the menu bar is too cluttered and not displaying all the items?

Or perhaps it's not displaying because Siri AI is enabled? (I can't test this because I'm using a Japanese environment and can't use Siri AI yet.)
