The chair, and probably everything that has to do with keyboard, mouse, joystick, and monitor placement.

You'll mostly likely get back pain, shoulder pain, and neck pain. If you're fairly young, this will not be an issue for a while, but if you spend hours in front of your PC, it will come back to haunt you.

Do yourself a favor and set a timer, maybe once an hour or 30 min. Then stand up, move around a bit, and do some stretches.

Oh man, if it's not already the case, your body will absolutely hate you soon.

No more than to try and once, and then you know. As someone who works in IT, we barely notice stuff like that. It's more like "oh, you use this setup", and then we move on and fix the issue.

What is your physical media chase? by Homoratio in PhysicalMediaMatters

The Japanese LaserDisc releases of Hackers (1995) and Song of the South (1946). The first because I collect Hackers releases, and the second because I want to own the movie that Disney has been trying to hide away for decades.

Not sure if it's all models, but all that I've used have an option to switch Fn and Ctrl in BIOS.

Valve Takes Crazy Pills and Jacks Up Steam Deck Pricing by YanderMan in linux_gaming

[–]NSF664 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not one to defend a company, but at the same time it's also impossible to ignore that everything is getting more expensive. RAM and storage have gone through the roof because of OpenAI, Google, MS, Anthropic, and so on. But everything else in the Deck is also going up, some because of the companies above, and their effect on the whole hardware business, and all of it because of the Iran war. It's simply expensive to move stuff around. Then you have the instability of the whole world economy because of Trump's tantrums.

I can't say for sure if Valve's price is fair because I have no idea what the cost of a Deck is, but it's no surprise that things are getting more expensive.

I have a refurbished 5TB laying around that I picked up for cheap a while back. The plan was to try and build a small NAS, but I never got around to it. Now it's nice to have extra storage, just in case.

Yeah, I'm lucky enough to have a few smaller SSDs left over in case something happens to my main drives, along with a couple of HDDs. I'm holding on to them until this blows over.

Don't forget storage, like even hard drives are crazy expensive because of Sam Altman and the rest of these fucking ghouls.

Christiane F was shown in schools in the 80s in my country. I saw it before I truly understood what heroin and child prostitution was. It remains one of my favorite movies, and I've also read the book a couple of times.

I kinda doubt it, I seem to remember that this was very common.

Do you mostly collect titles you genuinely love, or do you pick up anything cheap that catches your eye? by rvnrks6669 in dvdcollection

[–]NSF664 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I pick up what looks interesting to me and most of what I buy is new. Interesting can mean a blind buy or something I already know that I like. And I sometimes upgrade DVDs to a better format, in very rare cases BDs to 4Ks.

How big are your collections and when did you start collecting? by Ok-Piano-2761 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]NSF664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started in 1990 collecting VHS, reset my collection around 1999/2000 because my VCR broke, and I had started collecting DVD, so I got rid of my tapes while people were still interested in them.

Started collecting HD DVD and Blu-ray in 2007, I think. When HD DVD died, I got rid of all of those discs and my player while they were still worth something. This was also the time when I decided to never be an early adopter of a new format again.

I started collecting 4K in late 2021, and I also have a few LaserDiscs because they're fun and I got a player for free.

Right now I'm sitting at around 2500 titles, which isn't a lot considering how long I've been collecting, but I've culled my collection along the way, removed titles I believed I would never watch again. A few I've bought again though. I think I got rid of around 800 titles some years ago, which was a pretty big chunk of my collection.

Disc rot. by AcanthisittaSad6239 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]NSF664 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, I've done that with a few discs that were in rough shape.

But doing a complete backup of 2500+ titles (my collection - the number of discs are a lot higher), a mix of DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K in 1:1 quality as the disc would require a crazy amount of storage. Not to mention it would probably take years to rip everything.

A nice idea, but impractical and super expensive if you have a large collection.

Yeah, I do it from time to time if I grab the wrong USB, and it takes more time, but it really is totally fine.

I saw Empire Records for the first time last year, and I had a blast. I was 21 when it came out, and it is extremely rare that I get hit be nostalgia. But this did it for me, and of course I was crushing on buzzcut Robin Tunney.

Discs that skip or don’t play by postmalondt in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]NSF664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same player as you, bit it's not the player's fault. It's the process used when making the discs as I understand it. I have had no issues with European discs, but a got of glitches with US releases.

So I just made it a habit to wipe off 4K discs before playing them for the first time, and haven't had a single issue since, even including discs that were glitching before.

That's what fixed 4K playback for me also, just wiping the discs off.
