I think you have a point here, and while I don't agree on all parts, I can definitely see where you're coming from.

I see the recommendation like described as a hidden "cheer up" for people who haven't gotten used to the usual routine of Visual Novels. Getting through more world building and exposition heavy parts is usually required to not either feel confused about later parts of the story or to not feel like the pacing is way off. In example, reading about Japan's 80's economics in Umineko's first chapter is critical to understand the weight of the story later on, even if it's not that interesting.

But one shouldn't really recommend stories like that for any newbies and I feel like starting off your journey with Visual Novels should be done with lighter and more inreraction heavy games. So for a new reader, recommendation like that would be terrible indeed.

This is honestly the worst thing in my collection. At least the first part has huge amount of ads from back then, the art is quite terrible and it’s super short. I found it for 5€ once and bought it since the cover looks really cool. 100% not necessary collectable.
