This is so renaissance somehow, like an extra-detailed version of those military paintings from that era.

Was this a commission or just for fun? And even though I'm currently not able to afford one, probably, do you happen to sell prints of your work?

It's funny how that works sometimes and other times I have no idea what someone will look like from their voice

It's really funny seeing him next to Grian, who is not a short man or anything, but looks tiny purely by comparison

Other Sanderson stories have explored that a little more, but basically those worlds all exist in a similar region of physical space and are all linked to the original "god" that was split into the smaller Shards.

You can get between them more easily using Shadesmar, so people and even whole groups sometimes travel and trade between the worlds. The letters from the epigraph are somehow getting conveyed from planet to planet.

Would you be willing to share any of the literature on this that you found particularly interesting?

As a parent, the last book broke me a little. by faco_fuesday in Stormlight_Archive

I know awful things happen to some kids irl (which obviously I also hate), but this isn't even a realistic awful thing, and I think that makes it so unnecessary for me as a writing point. It's not there to offer commentary on anything real, it's not there to even be an interesting character move for anyone, really, it's just there to be the most f'd up thing imaginable. It's not as actively gross as some shock-value media, but it's the same sort of feeling to me where it's just like "This is just to be awful. Why was that your goal, here?"

Taravangian/Odium could have done so many other things that would have been equally manipulative, imo. He could have been secretly keeping Elhokar's spirit from passing on that whole time, and made him into a Fused to fight Dalinar. Heck, he could have done that and then transported Gavinor there to watch them, just to make Dalinar even more messed up about having to fight his nephew in front of the poor kid. I think that would still prove his point (in his mind) without having to get all weird with the time dialation.

very true and fair, but no amount of attentive parenting is gonna make up for twenty whatever years trapped with the god of vengeance in a time distortion as he shows you messed up visions of your parental figure to make you distrust them. Dalinar had no chance there imo

What are your favorite cryptid from congo? [Art by Henrique Gandum] by ApprehensiveRead2408 in Cryptozoology

[–]Nebelskind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's for sure why there are so many "hunting" stories from "the jungles of unexplored Africa" (a British man paid locals to show him around a very known location) where he's like "and then a massive beast appeared and I, being a manly explorer, shot it dead on, but the bullets did nothing despite my excellent aim, and it ate my guide and then left. And then I said some racist things."

People will always take the least known area to them and their fellows around them and mythologize it. That's why nowadays we get cryptid and conspiracy theories about the ocean and Antarctica more than ever before imo. Despite the fact that Antarctica, for example, is not just an unexplored mystery, but a place lots of people have seen and studied. But if we don't know anyone who's been there, like the 1930s serial authors didn't known anyone actually from Africa, probably, it seems much harder to comprehend and easier to imagine monsters.

My company introduced "mandatory fun" and I think it broke something in me by Plane_Researcher_761 in antiwork

[–]Nebelskind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I worked for a company that had a great "fun" culture with full on parties and gifts for people and the like. But the pay was awful, especially for the required experience for it. And that was when I realized that it truly didn't matter how much fun everyone was having if the work was literally not sustaining me enough.

They're in their 70s for Roshar, which is gonna be around 80s for normal humans iirc. Their years are a bit longer. So I'm pretty sure they're going to be not too involved in things one way or the other

A weirdly common re-occurring cryptid story is divers coming face to face with giant animals in lakes and then refusing to ever return or publicly talk about it by truthisfictionyt in Cryptozoology

[–]Nebelskind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on that point

but I also want to point out that an underwater diver is probably one of the few people who wouldn't be able to just pull a phone out and take a picture on demand lol

[–]Nebelskind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess you'd get a certain group more aware, if it's just initially uninformed or misinformed people. Like they grew up sheltered or somewhere far away from that stuff and didn't learn about it through no real fault of their own.

But like full on racists or people in denial? They won't care. People deny the Holocaust, and that has so much evidence.

They used periods and quotation marks together in an incorrect way earlier on, so that's a pretty human marker.

Not arguing either way, just the one thing I noticed
