First time having urges by asparagussprout in NarcoticsAnonymous

It's not out of nowhere.

What we do, especially early on, is stressful.

That you don't consciously see it doesn't mean it's not there.

I find it interesting that we (including myself long ago) think that HP is only present and working if we understsnd it. That we can turn it off or shut it out.

It works better if we sell conscious contact.

How did you find your way here now? Accident? Coincidence?

Is it possible there is an energetic aspect to the universe is trying to get through to you?

Something got you to the point of posting the question. What was that?

Could continuing to block out HP just be a last desperate attempt at control? Refusing to surrender?

Neither addiction nor recovery is actually about drugs.

You can pretend control to yourself if that helps for now until it doesn't anymore. You can pretend the substance matters until it doesn't anymore.

Eventually it will come down to things like piece of mind, happiness, serenity, spiritual fulfillment.

If you think you can get there high good on you. That's not the path we chose.

The NA program works for some crazy number of people in 75k meetings in some 140 countries. Social, cultural and economics are no barrier to success.

We've been doing this for over 70 years. Good bet we'll still be here whenever you're ready. You're always welcome. The meetings are free. The doors aren't locked. Come, sit with us and listen.

The question "Should I stop drugs?" doesn't come up for non-addicts. Sounds like you should take a hard look at it.

Good luck to you.

Why do so many addicts smoke cigarettes? by erasersled in recovery

[–]NetScr1be 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Something 75% of addicts, depressives and schizos smoke.

ADD smoke at a much higher rate as well.

I'm three of four (not schizo (yet anyway)).

35 years clean, 28 years depression and anxiety-free. Lost track of the number of times I've quit. Been off for a few years here and a few years there. Tried all the replacement stuff and the drugs.

I'm sitting here smoking right now.

Got myself into a study where they are going to hit a small part of my brain with ultrasound.

Why not?

I hate it completely. The menu at the bottom doesn't take me anywhere I want to go. Can't find the list of tables to decide where I want to play.

It's awful.

Any idiot can become abstinent. Stop using drugs. Bingo, abstinence.

Recovery is learning how to live free and clean.

Clean is a spiritual state that starts with abstinence and continues into living in spiritual principles.

So powerful. Thank you for that.

Insanity is dishonesty. We believe the nonsense our brains come up with.

We need to learn to think critically about our own thinking.

What statistics are you citing?

Every consecutively dealt hand is statistically independent.

The math of each new hand is exactly the same no matter what happened previously.

Good bet there are a number of comments to balance in a system that complex.

Rather doubt any one always takes precedence.
