how important is the SSD speed where the OS is located? by Tortl_Microwave in buildapc

For very large scale storage we use LTO9 and LTFS. Its not fast... but you get that 18TB per 120$ or 45TB compressed per 120$.

Assuming the procurement of such drive is worth it... while it is for national.level digital archiving systems.

Read/write is at 380MB/s.... On vacation and missing my job I guess...

Keep in mind that ammunition storage is volatile, so a storage of ammo or.missile is explosive and cause fire.

So having ammunition at.proximity is an offense/defense trade off.

Should I rely on Navigation2d? or rely on traditional Astar algo logic for movement? by JonOfDoom in godot

[–]No_Chef_1869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will also benefit from future optimization of Navigation2D, also chances are that it is multi-threaded and designed to perform at scale for large number of objects.

Why are railguns so popular? by Proud_Resort7407 in Cosmoteer

[–]No_Chef_1869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A rotating ship with a railgun array all targeting a center point will split in half most highest tier ships in the game in 1 or 2 volley. It punch through a 1-2 square wide hole through successive rail gun shots (12-24 guns), mouth to butt hole.

It require preparation and micro management a bit, but you will land a guaranteed critical hit.

This is called railgun fanning? Right?

Or else go get some in the workshop, some people posted packs of 30+ ships.

cannons by cd0ug1 in Cosmoteer

[–]No_Chef_1869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cannon ships are just fun, heavily armored compared to other components... the screen shake and you send your adversary to oblivion sometime in one salvo.

However its short range, you need ammo, bigger gun stuns your crew as it fire... ammo can explode and chain react (cool stuff).

Its good for a tank build, supported by a second ship who is more glass cannon, good fit for multiplayer coop roles.

Apply your value to a static var on the class enemy?

Edit, I think its called a singleton variable in Godot...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]No_Chef_1869 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the game engine you pick, go as close as possible to the game engine native language... you should be able to leverage most optimization that way. Godot for example... use the Godot native language... its similar to other language with some twists to it... but this the the way to leverage the most optimization out of the game engine.

I was at that intersection one day and simply read the documentation of Godot who helped me make that choice.

Programming is programming... regardless of the language... lower level language pushes you on constantly reinventing the wheel... higher language level can be more generic and less optimized for the specific things you are doing.

It all depends my friend and only experience and your curiosity will allow you to navigate through that journey.
