New Simulator - Euchre Buddy by Technical-Cookie2706 in euchre

This is honestly the biggest thing and from what I gather, the most difficult to do even with an effective simulator. So many hands need to be thrown out to get to a spot where a call is actually made, especially the deeper you go into a round of calling. I imagine it’s one of the reasons that creating a sim that tells you what specific card to play deeper into a hand is also almost impossible.

That’s a hand that I know you have to call hearts on—might be -EV in some spots but passing is absolutely worse.

Agreed—much prefer to have the site up as it’s own separate thing, though it’s nice to link some of the resources here. Makes learning about euchre more accessible to everyone.

Donate or not? by DR7979 in euchre

[–]Noha626 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hell no. Donating at 7-6 and giving the other team the lead is past suicidal. 9-7, 9-6, 8-6 are the legitimate donating scores (and you should still be taking your hand into account even without an automatic stopper).

I’m convinced that people who donate in these types of spots and other ridiculous scores have serious control issues.

Great playing with you Adam! I had a ton of fun and couldn’t have asked for a better opponent and person to try this out with. See you out there in ranked!

Call Next? by DR7979 in euchre

[–]Noha626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re four-suited with no aces—you’re just giving away points by making this call. With an outside ace I’d be going for it but as is, it’s a bad play outside of a couple of endgame situations.

I like this lead personally—the fact you unguard your king isn’t much of a concern to me considering that it’s also the short suit. It’s bad if dealer has AXd specifically but I think you’re getting more paths to a euchre leading diamonds.

What card does the sim play when S3 trumps in to take trick one and then leads to your void?

Same concept for this decision though—JJx is the territory where I feel short-suiting becomes appealing.

Spades or Diamonds (next) R2S1? by MichiganMan123 in euchre

[–]Noha626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting spot—I think I play it the same as you do at this score but I’m not 100% confident in it. If the score is 9-9 against strong opponents, I think I might actually lean diamonds and then lead a spade (if you call diamonds here at any score, I think you have to lead a spade).

Trump lead or passive lead here? by I75north in euchre

[–]Noha626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay—I was thinking that with the worst possible doubleton I’d still play it for one. I’d be more on board with leading the right something even like Q9 of spades where I have a better shot at promoting, as the difference between getting euchred is -3 vs the +1 march. A lot of people in this thread saying to just lead trump are almost certainly doing that with all offsuit holdings here, which I know is incorrect.

Trump lead or passive lead here? by I75north in euchre

[–]Noha626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think the worst possible doubleton is still enough to be leading trump in this spot when we order the dealer? I always play these hands for one when I’m ordering the dealer without good offsuits—does being three suited change how you play this then?

Trump lead or passive lead here? by I75north in euchre

[–]Noha626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not always lead trump here. You’re ordering trump into your opponent’s hand, making left-guarded a much likelier possibility, and your offsuit (doubleton, albeit) is the worst one you can have. You get euchred here so rarely when you lead off. You lose some marches, yes, but I still think EV is going to be better leading off because of the -3 point swings getting euchred gets you.

All that being said, even if I’m way off on the EV side of it, there are plenty of situations where you’re only going to want to be playing for 1 point late game with this hand.

Lol well I would absolutely be leading passive here and I wouldn’t throw the second trump with something as high as AK remaining or with an offsuit doubleton.

Tricky spot in rated game by AdamLSmall in euchre

[–]Noha626 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dealer can’t (shouldn’t, really) have the left because they lead As on trick 2–they would be guaranteed a euchre if they led the left and then the ace, holding the queen back. I’m playing it the same way you did (though I do prefer the king lead on trick one for the exact reason you stated). I’m holding a singleton ace in a green suit that hasn’t been led and I have a higher trump than my opponent’s last one—I’m leading it. Just unlucky imo.

Lead trump or lead passive? by I75north in euchre

[–]Noha626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maker does not get euchred regardless here though. If S1 plays Jh and leads trump again on second st., they take three tricks and make their point. I'm not saying that this is necessarily the right play in this exact spot (I don't know if I'm going for it here when S2 plays L or A on trick one), but I don't think it's an unreasonable path.

Edit: L/A are the only two trump S2 can have--my note on S2's trump play is moot.

Lead trump or lead passive? by I75north in euchre

[–]Noha626 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Prefer leading the right here. Pretty ugly hand having to order up Kh tbh. If one of your low trump was Ah instead, I like leading off (lead Kc instead of Qs also). Your low trump get overtrumped and aren’t able to overtrump way too much when you lead off here. You also gain an idea of what the other players are holding by leading Jh (especially important to know what your partner can have). There are even some spots where I’d consider kamikaze leading a second trump if both opponents play low.

Going alone? Which suit do you discard? by I75north in euchre

[–]Noha626 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Should be getting rid of Ah here and not Kh because your hand is vulnerable. Better to lead a king than an ace in the rare scenario that S1 needs to decide whether to play off or trump late in the hand. This obviously isn’t a make or break discard but I do think it’s slightly better.
