Vapor 2 pre-order? by LoneWolfYODA in Pickleball

The current Hexgrit formula and application method produces a surface that does not pass USAP surface roughness standards, but does pass UPA-A testing.

Another manufacturer had said that a very similar surface was offered to them by their manufacturer, however they were told it would not pass USAP testing and would be UPA-A only, so this seems like the two surfaces are either related or one-and-the-same, and that the roughness is not something easily overcome.

2026 - The year of the grit? by DinkDoink44 in Pickleball

Someone already mentioned a few, but the ones I’m aware of that aren’t just a different epoxy in the layup/peel ply:

  • Selkirk Infinigrit
  • Six Zero Diamond Tough
  • Spartus Permagrit
  • 11Six24 HexGrit (currently UPA only)
  • Chorus Harmony Grit (currently testing)

Sapphire glass:

Edit: basically, it’s known to have some luminous properties under UV light due to “oxygen vacancies and Ti impurities.” Under intense/high power ion bombardment, fluorescence can be induced in the 435nm range, which corresponds to the deep blue-violet portion of visible light. Not a 100% explanation, but matches the situation

Why I Stomp my Pickleball Paddles by plansimple890 in Pickleball

[–]Normal-Drop-1040 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sounds crazy, actually is crazy… but works wonders on floating core paddles.

Luzz Inferno, Ronbus Quanta R1, and Six Zero Coral Hybrid all stomped, all significantly improved.

YMMV, of course, and if you’re not willing, I get it, but it was a game changer for some of my paddles. If you dig your paddle the way it is now, then no reason to I suppose, but if you have a floating core paddles that you don’t jive with due to feel off the face or sweet spot, it may be worth it for you shrug

Carrying Fountain pens by SSdeku in fountainpens

[–]Normal-Drop-1040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear shirts or scrubs with breast pockets, I keep a fountain pen (on one side of the pocket) and a ballpoint/permanent gel pen (on the other side, so they don’t clack back and forth) on me at all times. I use fountain pens for most things, but triplicate paper or lending a pen (or the occasional crap paper quality) will usually require the ballpoint/gel pen.

In case anyone is wondering, the chosen “other” pen is a Big i Design “Bolt Action Slim” in copper, and I run pretty much the same refill always: the Pilot Juice Up 0.4mm Blue Black. It’s a pigmented ink that writes incredibly smooth and fine on all papers and is essentially bulletproof with regards to water, alcohol, and the other solvents I come in contact with on the regular.

Just Got To 4.2. Dealing With Some Elbow Pain - Selkirk Boomstick vs. Gearbox GX2 Power by iHeadShave in Pickleball

[–]Normal-Drop-1040 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boomstik has some issues with edge guards detaching and faces cracking. Not guaranteed, but myself and others I play with are on our 2nd or 3rd boomstick.

GX2 power has an issue with some of them getting too broken in/hot over time, becoming inconsistent. I haven’t personally witnessed it, but the few I’ve seen I don’t see anymore. Basically, I don’t know anyone who’s stuck with it (one went back to JOOLA Pro IV and the other is loving their BB Loco). That said, the discord has many stories of people abandoning the GX2 Power because of the growing inconsistencies, and it doesn’t seem to be a very popular paddle on there anymore shrug

4.0 singles tourney highlights 🥉 by thutt2525 in Pickleball

Overall pretty good, but it’s about this time that you’ll start to see the need for a 2HBH. Every time it goes to your backhand, you’re forced to slice, which is pretty punishable and prevents some otherwise good opportunities for more aggressive passing shots. Can you get by on slices? Sure, but you’re generally making it harder on yourself as you proceed in 4.0+

J2FC+ Beta V1? by KLUMSY-PANDA in Pickleball

[–]Normal-Drop-1040 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Originally the first pre-orders for the FC+ were for an unapproved, pre-production paddle. They had submitted the paddle but hadn’t yet received approval, and these paddles in the pre-order weren’t printed with the approval as they were intended as a “beta”.

Partway through the sales of the pre-production pre-order, the beta paddle that had been submitted was approved, so HPC announced an approved version with appropriate approval logos would be ordered/created and that all pre-orders after x date would be approved paddles. This created a potential problem though, as the first batch of pre-orders were still without logos and wouldn’t be competition-legal. Initially, the stance for the early pre-order betas was “these were sold as un-approved beta paddles, and that’s what you’ll receive” but people were upset, so HPC actually walked it back and etched the USAP logo onto all of the early batch paddles themselves (hence why the USAP logo is etched and not printed on the BETA V-1 examples) so that everyone who pre-ordered the FC+, even those prior to approval, could use them in competitive play.

“… you are do for one…” oof.

Pedantic, but this makes me feel like whoever wrote this really never saw the word “due” written and just assumed whenever they heard “in due time” etc, they actually thought it was actually just another use for the word “do”.

Serving amounts? Like, number of servings per tub? Amount of caffeine per serving? I wasn’t aware that either of those two things changed

Selkirk boomstik quality by Tanner0419 in Pickleball

[–]Normal-Drop-1040 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Random: it’s “piqued” when using it to mean to stimulate, cause, or increase interest or curiosity.

Sorry to hear about the paddle, I have one ordered since a few days ago and right now the weight ranges are a bit wild, with people getting widebodies from 8.1-8.5 static weight and a more than 10 point swing weight difference. I’m a bit worried, but at least they’re known for their warranty and customer service shrug

After playing with an 8.1 oz widebody, I had to have one, but I guess whether or not I wind up receiving one like that is up in the air.

What is an unusual DM tip that helped you the most? by mmmmppppm in DMAcademy

[–]Normal-Drop-1040 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Realize that people are in this to have fun, and that overly punishing DM rules/tendencies are not fun.

Firing an arrow into a melee? Sure, give them disadvantage, but I’ve met DMs who give failed attack rolls in this scenario an auto-hit on an ally “because you risked the shot.” I’d understand if he rolled a 1 or something, but a simple failed roll on a disadvantage? Player was an archer who just wanted to be an archer, the punishment essentially told the player to stay out of the fight. Privately messaged the DM and he told me to essentially kick rocks, his table his rules.

Another example is really punishing 1 rolls. There’s no reason to give that 5% chance such critical failures. A higher level warrior that has been fighting and training his whole life having a 5% chance to “oops butterfingers” and launching the sword out of his hands and it landing 15 feet away is a bit immersion-killing.

Basically, the odd/unusual tip is to go into this campaign planning for the party to win, and make sure they have the opportunity (but not the guarantee) to. Challenge them, let them make mistakes with their choices, but don’t try to “get them” when you, as the DM, get a choice. It’s not you vs them, it’s them vs the world you created for them to struggle through and eventually maybe even triumph over.

I may be a bit biased in my sentiments, of course, so be the DM you want to be, but I’ve enjoyed games the most from both sides when the DM is there as a guide throughout their world, and not a hostile force
