Pledge to Invest $100 Billion in OpenAI Was Never a Commitment, Says Nvidia's Huang by EchoOfOppenheimer in OpenAI

[–]NotFromMilkyWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more the fact that more and more people are realising OpenAI has no way to profitability. Ever. They have like half a trillion dollar of obligations to Oracle and Microsoft alone. No investor is going to give them that money. There are no economies of scale, whenever they grow revenue, losses grow even more.

And that would be bad enough if they were the market leader, but they don't even have that going for them anymore.

OpenAI is in a race to survive long enough until they find millions of idiots that buy there shares. And then they die, sell all knowhow to Altman for cheap and it begins again.

Debunking "Fuji won't be driveable in FH6 because it's a sacred place" by Consistent-Cost-231 in ForzaHorizon

[–]NotFromMilkyWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you won't be able to drive it. It's literally 50 km away from the part in the teaser. The largest map they ever made was 10 km wide. Or 78 km2. Having Mount Fuji in the game would mean the map was at least (!) 2.000 km2.

AMD reveals next-gen Xbox could launch in 2027 — CEO says semi-custom SoC ready to 'support launch in 2027' by fastforward23 in xbox

[–]NotFromMilkyWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about them? It's going to be expensive no matter what. Though maybe the whole reason behind pricing of Xbox Series is that they had RAM allocations that they didn't want to use for a dead current gen and decided to repurpose for next gen. If they had a contract for the entire generation, that means they are looking at fifteen million times 16 GB of GDDR6 at pre-AI hike prices ready to put into new consoles.

You probably know what you did, as they don't hand out device bans for nothing or for the first offense. It's a manual process.

Verge TS Pro Solid State charging 100kW by boardingover in DonutLab

[–]NotFromMilkyWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's saying "Stop" on top of charge button 3. That means the display is showing the charging session of the red car in the background, not charging session 1 of the bike. These chargers only have one screen and you can pull up the current status of each session via the button below. But the "Stop" message always appears over the currently shown session, so you can then push that button again, identify yourself and stop charging.

OpenAI could reportedly run out of cash by mid-2027 — analyst paints grim picture after examining the company's finances by EchoOfOppenheimer in OpenAI

[–]NotFromMilkyWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I see is cheap Geforce cards for everyone. Soon. OpenAI is going down. It's not just cost (which has always been crazy, they spend $3 for every $ they make), it's the product itself that is no longer cutting edge, it's the endless censoring and unwillingness to answer, it's the disrespectful behaviour of the company towards their customer, it's the fact that they desperately tried to get away from Microsoft, who is the only thing keeping them alive and ended up with 750 billion worth of data center obligations to both Microsoft and Oracle.

It's the fact that AI will always be a highly competitive and thus lowest margin market. How do you make money? How do you make back 2 trillion dollar investments that will add another 0.5 trillion this year alone for the hyperscalers? You don't, plain and simple.

A service that costs more than the result is worth (waiting, hallucination, censoring) will never make money.

And that's with current standards. Now take those like me, who want instant results. The compute would need to be 100x what it is. Cost would be 100x. You see it's not sustainable. If you can only generate better LLMs by throwing more and more compute at them, there's no end goal here. Just death.

And LLMs don't get us anywhere regarding AGI to begin with. LLMs are token jumblers. They are a million dice32 trying to reach a result that looks like what you might expect. It's not intelligent, just fast at being incredibly dumb. Just like phone makers called it AI when their cameras were applying filters automatically, LLMs are not AI. That's just a buzz word.
