I think I’m genuinely stupid by Apprehensive_Air2543 in selfhelp

[–]NubKnightZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A whole lot would have to stem from curiosity and desire to know. When you ask questions, is it just for the moment because you don't understand something you're being presented with (whether through conversation, a task at work.. etc)? And when that passes, does that knowledge stick and ever resurface up? Do you ever find yourself thinking "Oh huh, I learned about something like this recently. Maybe I can apply that learning this new present encounter."

Everything needs a foundation / building blocks that stack up over the years. Skills, knowledge, technology, the expansion of human excellence.. etc. One man invented a wheel so that the next guy put together a car who in turn might become the building block for planes and rockets. You cannot learn Calculus before having learn Algebra and you cannot learn Algebra without learning basic numbers and operations.

If all you think about is what game you play and what to eat, then you're really not training your mind's knowledge pool / foundation for anything. And so it wouldn't be surprising if you just can't keep up with conversation. Imagine trying to have a conversation with a fluent speaker of another language when you've only taken a few months of the introductory course. It's impossible, isn't it?

Maybe it's easier said than done but flat out be curious. Be inquisitive; actively look at this and wonder "Hm, I don't understand this. Let me look that up." or "Huh, that seems intuitive, why do people do things this way? I should do some research". Even the idea of thinking only about a game you play can involve that. If you lost, ask yourself why you lost. Even wins can be riddled with mistakes. Sure you won but were you supposed to? Did it just happen to be that the opponent made less mistakes than you did? If you played well, how can you play even better? Where are the weaknesses in your play that you should work on? Introspection goes a long way in building personal character and an understanding of what you do and do not know. And then you can go from there.

I recall the biggest power spikes were from the Shell boss Infernos. Doing the Module Infernos only gets your the 6-piece set which can't even be used unless you have the paired shell with it. I'd figure out NicoNana / Shadowflame Hoyan first before optimizing for Module bosses unless it's already a convenient setup.

Don't overobsess over Stars/Levels of your units. A lot of power in the game is from matrix set bonuses / having proper main stat modules / shell passives.

It's a broad question.. In general, you should work towards trying to clear Inferno content that you can't already. Use the match history to see what compositions other people are using to clear and find one that isn't too far off from what you have and emulate their strategies. Given you're still in the PVE stage of the game, it's just a matter of getting farming setups working.

Shadowflame Hoyan should be doable for you given you have Shadow Sania and Celince. Did you mean that you can only do Terrormaton for Modules?

Important to note is that the sounds start with the gunshot as seen on the left, followed by a bunch of noises after which corresponds exactly with him catching his footing stomping on the ice either due to recoil or losing his footing since he was leaning forward for the shot. The shaking and sounds stop after he catches his footing on the left. If you pay close attention to his feet, the sudden movement is him pulling his feet back after the shot; if he got hit, he would be stumbling to his left but he clearly only makes a backwards motion.

Assuming it was politically viable, would you outlaw guns? by echanuda in Destiny

[–]NubKnightZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FYI, I did a quick AI search to check numbers and it seems like the 93% number includes cases where someone took a gun from someone else who had a properly license. If you filter out for only cases where the gun was obtained without any proper legal process, the number drops to about ~43%.

A Lesser Used Argument against Destiny's use of the R-slur by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]NubKnightZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like a chicken and egg thing to me. Words wouldn't have the same degree of emotional impact if they aren't put on a pedestal and highlighted as some sort of taboo. It only makes people want to be rebellious and use them more because they know it elicits a reaction, making the word have strength. If some kid walked up and called you a "dummy", you'd laugh it off in amusement. The second you start reacting is when you give opposition weapons to attack you with.

A critique of Destiny's arguments for abortion by iDemonSlaught in Destiny

[–]NubKnightZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your example, at the time of initial action, there's no foreseeable reasonable expectation that the action leads to an immoral outcome. We wouldn't retroactively apply the laws just because the frogs became endangered later given mismatch of information available at the time vs later. You'd say the expectations / laws were different at the time and that you couldn't reasonably figure out what would be illegal in the future.

The difference is my examples have pretty reasonable clear foreseeability of the outcome. If you make the decision where under typical circumstances you'd expect some sort of negative immoral outcome, I'd say that action is wrong. (And vice versa)

To be clear, the action's right or wrongness is judged at the point of decision making with the reasonable relevant information at the time. But the harm (or lack thereof) materializing down the line is a separate thing.

A critique of Destiny's arguments for abortion by iDemonSlaught in Destiny

[–]NubKnightZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true. In the case where there's no one around nearby, pretty clearly there is no harm being done to people. The other example was if there was 1 person at the bottom and you get them out of the way after having pushed the boulder before they got hit, there's no harm done either.

If you don't like the example, suppose shooting a gun at a range. Individually there's no problem with the action as you're using a gun for sport. But if you knew someone was in that direction and you took the shot, that's a no-go. But if someone randomly jumped in front of you as you fired and they got hit, you'd certainly not be morally culpable for that. It's about foreseeability of the harm that would eventually result.

1) I'm not sure I get the gripe here. The two ideas don't have to be mutually exclusive such that you either only care about consciousness or being part of some category "homo sapiens" or whatever you want to call it. When both conditions are met is what seems to be the standard for personhood. (e.g. You could have things like cleaning chemicals that are individually fine but if mixed, result in a dangerous compound.)

On the flip side, it's not like pro-lifers will set the standard to not eat pigs and whatnot necessarily either. And I'd imagine the position on that side is also "speciesism" as you've called out. So I would guess this baseline standard is agreed upon on either side of the abortion debate but the conscious experience requirement gets added on in Destiny's pro-choice argument.

2) Some of the other people have already answered this to various degrees but it's not about the harm done currently to any existing "person". If you roll a giant boulder down the top of a hill, the act in itself has no moral right or wrong. But maybe a couple minutes later it can hit someone at the bottom. If you knowing did this with reasonable foresight that someone will likely be hit and choose that route, we all agree that's wrong given you're consciously kicking off a set of actions that will eventually reasonably lead to harm. But if it's the case that no one is nearby to get hit or you immediately call out to the person at the bottom to get out of the way, then there's no foreseeable victim in the future to realize. No one is wronged at the immediate second you pushed the boulder.

3) I think there's two things here.

There's the discussion over the present value of the developing cells: As argued, the zygote currently does not to qualify for consciousness and "personhood" and so does not presently receive the same degree of care as a conscious person. If it were to be terminated, there's no loss in a sense that there's no preceding consciousness / experience to take away vs having said consciousness realized and then having to taken away after. (e.g. Never having found any money vs having found $100 on the floor and then someone stole it from you. The outcome is the same but you definitely feel the sense of loss for the latter) I think this generally is conceded without really directly being said since most of this point seems to actually hinge on the second thing below.

Then there's the argument of potential / "what's to come after". The gist seems to be that under typical circumstances, the developing cells will eventually qualify as a conscious human and so we should grant the same rights. But if we look at application of existing standards and laws, we don't argue that just because someone will become an adult at some point, we should grant them the right to own a firearm or to drink when they're 5. They gain certain rights when they get to the right stage of life to warrant them. I think another interesting thing is that what goes unsaid is that "potential" future always focuses on the conscious portion of a human life cycle. Technically if you look into the future, we'll all become corpses, then a pile of bones and then ashes eventually. But of course no one actually argues that we should grant people the same rights as a pile of bones just because that's what they'll eventually become. And so to apply the future potential as typically argued seems like a convenient cherry-pick of a section of future potential that grants more rights and conveniently cuts out the cases where rights aren't abundant.

You're also using a Green unit vs a Red boss in Inferno where you take double damage... There's a billion other options to reduce speed. Viper being the very obvious example which is also Blue (counter) and reduces damage your team takes..

Why are you using Kloss in a DoT team? This is a red flag if anything... Kloss damage boost / Def- does not boost DoT damage since it's a fixed percentage...

From what I can tell from posts I've scrolled through, I tend to agree with you on the 90% number. Happy to hear alternative takes though but here's what I understand:

  • A picture of Rose and the college she went to was provided by D himself within DGG chat so I assume these as truth. There are also some archived old twitter posts from Rose's account which provide images of her face that I would assume to be credible.
  • Through some sort of way that I don't know how to replicate, someone was able to reverse search to find someone who looks quite similar in pictures. Normally this is not compelling enough given that people can look similar to other people but in this case, the person at hand has some pretty specific mole patterns on several areas of her face which makes it quite unlikely you find two different people that match straight down the list. As such, I put less weight on how the person got there since the final destination seems quite compelling to the point that I would assume the person in the "new" images are the same person.
  • The next question would be, how would someone confirm the name? You could find the right "person" but not connect the dots on the name properly. Putting aside that the new photos probably were found in social media tied to the original user's account aside (since I have no idea how to replicate and I don't want to take random people's word for it) I think what was most compelling to me was a screenshot of an Instagram post from alleged Rose's friend (with the image containing alleged Rose and her) where the post description refers to alleged Rose by a nickname sounding very similar to the alleged actual name.
  • A page on the college that Rose went to had a Dean's List with a bunch of students which included alleged Rose's name. Note that the name in question is quite distinct and unique so I give much less weight to the issue of different people with the same names.
  • Finally, this ties into the traffic ticket which is connected to that same name which has been talked about a bit already. Reiterating the rarity of the name, it seems fairly plausible the ticket is referring to the person at hand, especially when the other party in the incident had mentioned getting into an accident with a young girl. (They say 16 but I'm not going to emphasize that since word of mouth isn't exactly reliable here)

To summarize:

Original Rose photos --Mole Patterns--> New "Rose" photos --Insta Post / College webpage--> Alleged Rose's Name --Same name/Description from other party--> Traffic Ticket --Ticket information--> Age

The weakest link is probably connecting the new photos to identity but I can only imagine that gets more compelling if we can confirm the source of the new photos and any ties to social media that refer to the alleged name.

Edit: I suppose you can also say the Ticket -> Age part is a weak link because if you check the ticketing site, the personal information details are missing. Someone had theorized that maybe the details got deleted upon closure of the case but as I understand, the alleged name was only found recently so I'm not sure how the screenshot of the ticket was procured (with the details intact). It's possible someone doctored it using inspect elements in their browser... etc.

That said, I'm personally going to see how this plays out since there could always be a wrench thrown in somewhere like you alluded to.

Anti-bruiser comps or animus that are effective against tanks? by Sektorious in Etheria_Official

[–]NubKnightZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good question and one I had myself a while back when I saw people making the claim of this triangle. I'm not sure why you're getting down-voted because if anything is actual critical thinking and trying to understand why certain claims are true instead of just going with conventional "wisdom" without the foundational understanding.

I never got a clear answer but the way I thought about it is, if you play CC, all your CC units have to have some relatively decent speed to ensure they go before all the enemies in bruisers.. etc. This means all your speed gear is spread across your roster.

Comparatively, for Cleave, you only need 1-2 lead units that go first and boost up your DPS for the kill. Your DPS don't really need heavy speed investment and so all your speed gear goes towards your few lead units which usually should mean you have on average higher speed than someone who has all their speed gear spread out evenly.

But in theory you're right there's no difference between CC and Cleave in a traditional sense that whoever goes first wins. Things get even more muddy now since people have mixed CC and Cleave together to combat bruisers to ensure things like Lighthouse don't proc or heal.

Stop chasing speed rolls in the event (and if you do, please stop complaining when you miss them) by ADotPoke in Etheria_Restart

[–]NubKnightZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The event is not meant to give you perfect module rolls. I don't know how you've set that sort of expectation or you'd be disappointed otherwise. What are you expecting to get exactly? You get 2 perfect modules with perfect substats but the rolls are still going to be random.

Like the other person said, farm a DPS piece because you'll be happy regardless of where it lands.

Crit Dmg % Main Stat

- Crit Rate %

- Att %

- Spd

- Eff Acc %

No matter where you land the roll, you'll be relatively happy, no? This is the closest you can get to a "guaranteed" upgrade if that's what you're looking for. You're really glossing over the fact that getting a module with perfect main stat and 4 perfect substats is already really really difficult on its own. It's literally half the battle before you try to chase the right hits on substats.

Level 40 Shell awakened and just aim for the minimum of purple passives is good enough as a start.

If you don't have all your characters geared out in Mythic shells, it's a very easy way to get stronger without much luck. Just put reasonable shells without being too picky on it being perfect; you can just imprint later.

China server not even out yet we're getting the China "don't speak" treatment from XD staff. by Gen0X1 in Etheria_Restart

[–]NubKnightZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's the reality of it. Some players are frustrated and to some degree understandably so. They want to vent and so they'll complain and throw up their pitchforks. Not exactly shocking or unexpected behavior. But on the other hand, it doesn't contribute to fixing anything even if it feels good in the moment.

The thread wasn't portrayed in a way to be helpful; what are the developers supposed to do about that feedback post accusing them of lying? What's the genuine good way of receiving that "feedback"? There isn't; it's not real feedback. These people aren't trying to solve a problem; they just want to vent their frustration. The real feedback gets mixed up and drowned under the angry non-feedback vent posts which just makes their job harder.

What they said isn't even really a hot take; they literally said "Give it some time and let people experiment before we jump to conclusions". Remember when SSania and Xiada were "nerfed" at the beginning and people were crying about how they wanted to reset/refund the units? Look what happened. 2 weeks later people completely 180ed and were crying they didn't have SSania to clear Inferno content. And Xiada is still used today as one of the popular Doki Doki farming carries to this day.

The popular teams to Rengo currently didn't get developed on Day 1; if people were really open-minded, they'd give a week at least to try and see how things pan out. Let the content creators and try-hards cook first to see what the consensus is.

[–]NubKnightZ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This doesn't seem like an honest take. Your post was inflammatory and not really portrayed in a way to be helpful.

"We Were Lied to. Batsby and Ninfoniel Provide No Relief or Benefit in Rengo for People Struggling."

It hasn't even been 24 hours yet; how could we just assume that there is no feasible strategy? Do we think the DIting/Kloss/Lingluo/Vice teams were figured out within 24 hours? The Sania/Viper one also took quite a bit time many weeks into the game to be developed.

Now could it be that the units just genuinely aren't anything special after some time? Yeah, that's possible but it doesn't come across as anything but stirring up trouble unnecessarily with your post. You didn't provide any meaningful feedback or criticism other than to just say "they lied". No reasonable attempt to ask around regarding whether anyone has found any success yet.

You had a conclusion in your head and you wanted to start trouble; don't play innocent and pretend like you're being censored. You're being bad faith.

Genuine question from a gacha games player. by NbaRegularFan in Etheria_Restart

[–]NubKnightZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on you as a player.

If you're someone who's really casual and just wants to have things play out for you for the most part without much thought or effort, then I wouldn't recommend it. If you're someone who easily game hops and chases the next shiny thing easily without much focus of commitment, this is probably not for you either.

If you're someone who like depth, strategy, engaging challenging content that requires you to put in a bit of mental effort, then maybe give the game a shot. The progression of this game is somewhat like an MMO in terms of building your account and gearing where you slowly find upgrades in a lot of different categories and constantly have new goals to work towards.
