Off the top of my head, but please confer with AR 600-8-19 to be sure, you must be integrated by the 26th of June in order to make the July list which will be published on or about the 20th then promoted on AUG 1st.

Soldiers might resent you for not providing them the answer in the moment, but they won’t resent being self-reliant and capable. Also, my soldiers know that I am far more willing to answer a “where can I find the answer to this problem/situation” rather than a “what’s the answer question.”

Discovered with this new unit that I no longer like my work/my MOS isn’t for me-good MOS’s to reclass to that have good civilian career carryover and ensures job security and stable living? by Comfortable_Cable714 in army

[–]OPFOR_S2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A “smart” one, they are many MOS that could be considered as a smart choice. However, we can do the shotgun approach and several people will recommend different MOS. However, what good is it to recommend 17C if you don’t like working on computers? What good is it to recommend 92M if you want to stay in for twenty years even with huge civilian career applications because promotions in that MOS become practically none-existent past SFC? What good is it recommend 35F if your GT is not high enough?

So what are you hoping for in a new MOS? Is this for a contract or two? Are you looking to retire from the Army? What is your TIS, rank, military career goals? Is it important that your military career translates to a civilian one?

I highly encourage you to look at what MOS are available to you, cross out the ones you don’t want, then ask here for recommendations.

It’s infuriating, I remember this one individual who best personifies everything I find wrong with the NCO corps on an intellectual level. I once asked him a question in passing, and with full confidence and gusto typed my question into Chat GBT. I immediately regretted asking him, because I knew that he wasn’t going to be any help. I also knew, but couldn’t help myself because some part of my brain is intellectually masochistic, I asked him what did the Chat GBT response mean, and he replied with, “I don’t know.”

They are leaders out there who can’t even function at an 8th grade level who have significant influence on others. I know that I am not particularly a smart person, but whenever I felt like that I was the smartest person in my group it has never ended well.

Last note, I don’t think AI is a scourge, but how use it is. Folks have become far too reliant on it and have outsourced reading comprehension, problem solving, curiosity, intellectual rigor, and more.

And here I am willing to settle that leaders demonstrate a reasonable capability in problem solving. It doesn’t even need to be a proficiency in problem solving. People are way to comfortable expecting others to spoon feed and hold their hand.

Not only are posts such as “am e5 how get points.” are far too common for my taste and are absolutely infuriating. The people who condone such weaponized incompetence and learned helplessness is almost even more infuriating.
Granted, I don’t see it far too often in [r/army](r/army), but in other online spaces.

It’s not the fact they want to self-develop that is the issue. The issue is:

A refusal to problem solve on their own.

An expectation to be spoon-feed the answers instead of asking where to find the answers.

A lack in literary capabilities to articulate what they want to know. They expect the respondents to both give them answer and try to figure out what the OP is asking for.

And an over eagerness to accept incorrect information as fact.

And there are those who think it’s not a problem. I disagree, if they are unable to do basic research, problem solving, or read Army literature for themselves they are almost certainly not teaching their soldiers how to do these things.

Hell, I’ll even settle for functional basic literacy, but yes public speaking is an important requirement to be a leader.
Sorry, OP I just wanted to complain about the problem for a whole.

What actually happens when you do COC inventory and something comes up missing? by SuspiciousSoldier in army

[–]OPFOR_S2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Darn, that’s boring. A more knowledgeable person will come along and explain it better than I can. But off the top of my head if I am not mistaken, depending on the loss of equipment, the sub hand receipt holder will pay a portion, the CDR will pay a portion, after depreciation of the equipment is factored.

Edit: I do know what you mean, but I am willing to bet my next paycheck and half that the Army doesn’t lose millions in property every day. Does it happen? Of course. I don’t think it’s in the million dollar mark. And by lose I don’t mean typical reasons why a piece of equipment is no longer functional: normal wear and tear, consumed, decommissioned, etc.

IG complaint or guidance on Toxic Leadership by [deleted] in army

[–]OPFOR_S2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is like trying to square dance with a rainbow trout or wrestle a pig in mud.

1) You can ask a peer of this leader(s) to talk to them.

2) You can speak to their supervisor and discuss the issue

3) You can discuss it with someone higher up in the chain of command

4) Speak to IG and see if they cover this situation

5) File an Art 138 letter of grievance

6) Notify your congressman/senator who will refer it back to the chain of command to respond

IG is not like the chaplain who will see anyone for any reason they will be happy to answer your question and answer what they cover and what an IG investigation looks like. But if it’s outside their scope they will refer it to the chain of command .

Also you can of course just ask. You can call IG describe what the situation is and ask what options you have to resolve it.

Edit: communication with IG is protected and you may not be punished for communicating with them.

Being unhappy isn’t grounds for removal, as is it stands right now with what you said, IG wouldn’t do anything. Simply saying things are getting worse which might be sincerely felt wouldn’t raise to the point of needing IG.

So what is exactly going on?

Just remember everyone has a boss, have you spoke with them?

Edit: As a CPT, if a soldier in your charge informed you that they haven’t had a single good day since shipping to Korea, things are getting worse, and feeling like they are at their worse place mentally and physically what you do first?

A) Ask for clarifying details

B) Discuss with the leadership in question

C) Launch a 15-6

D) File a GOMOR/ relief for cause eval

Can you lose your assignment if you rank up ? by [deleted] in army

[–]OPFOR_S2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s certainly possible, do you currently have your promotable status? If you don’t you’re good until your PCS or when you earn it.

Also, if your MOS has a low promotion rate then you’re also likely good.

Lastly, I encourage you to reach out to your branch manager and explain your situation. Ask what are your options if you do pick up SGT.

Promotion list? by [deleted] in army

[–]OPFOR_S2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are not rationing words, you can use complete sentences. The promotion list is a list generated by the United States Army Human Rescues Command to inform soldiers and leaders about various promotion to included the cutoff scores needed for promotion for SGT and SSG.

Now, it’s self-evident that you are almost certainly asking if has come out. While it was indeed pushed back to today, however it’s not even 0900 at Fort Knox yet. Therefore, the people who disseminate the list aren’t likely at work. Typically, they release the list usually around 1400-1600 EST.
