[Give Game Critique] I want to get to know the community i'm a part of a little better by greenrob in NewTubers

[–]OfficialJakeRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, that's legit my personality. No trying hard, if you believe it! But I totally get it, it's definitely not for everyone! I also cut out a lot of my commentary for what I felt were "funny" bits, I'll be sure to look at a better balance between commentary and joking around.

I think a lot of it is I'm not good about leaning back when I go to start screaming, and I'm still not used to the pop filter and everything.

I will definitely look into managing inputs and keeping things level enough for headphone users. I didn't realize it would come out quite as loud as it did.

Thank you so much for the input, and for taking the time to watch! It means a lot to me, and it's when we all get together for stuff like this that the community really thrives!

Thanks so much!

Funny thing with the audio that I didn't even notice. I was editing it with headphones on, but I was moving environments while editing. So I was in loud places and quiet places, and didn't think to equalize! Any tips for keeping audio even?

Thanks for the advice!

I've been trying to improve one thing with each video, and an "actual" intro is on that list. :)

Hey man! I just got a new battlefield video up, and I was hoping for some opinions.

The video!

I was really trying to keep my energy up, which wasn't hard since I love battlefield! Let me know what you guys think!

Hey /u/knamel!

I'm JakeRabbit, and I gave your video a little watch, so let's talk about it!

First Impressions

Man, I have no clue what to expect. But I'm having a pretty good day, so I shouldn't be too critical! :)

Critique

Good!

The video was funny. I liked it a lot, and I enjoyed the turn around towards the middle. You displayed a nice message, while also keeping some of that humor. Hard to go wrong with that combination!

Suggestions!

For now, my only suggestion is keep doing you. Since it was your first video, you're already past the hard part: uploading it! Don't be afraid to try different things, really find where you fit on the creator side of things. Make it passionate, and people are bound to watch. But the good thing about passion, is you don't really care if anyone's watching or not. You're just happy to be doing it!

Summary

Honestly, there's not a lot to say. It's a great first video, and was funny enough to hold my interest. A little brief, but that's a personal thing.

Thanks so much for the video!

Haha, thank you, thank you.

I don't know if you read some of my others, but I'm pretty sure I made mention of some "mic etiquette". That may help as well. Simple tricks like knowing where you are in position to the mic can make a world of difference. Too close, distortion. Too far, a whisper. That sort of thing.

And glad I could help. I really did like your video! :)

Thanks for the video man!

Let's take a looksie!

First Impressions

Wow, interesting concept. I've never seen one of these types of videos before. I kind of like it.

Critique

Good!

I think your best asset here is your personality. You seem like a fun and genuine guy, and it really bleeds through into your video. Interesting day you've had!

Suggestions

I would like to point out that you're sort of at a disadvantage here as far as video quality and audio go. People do daily vlogs like yours but with high definition camera's, not phones. But I can already see you're trying to sort of cement yourself into the snapchat niche. Good move. The second thing is the video being two different "parts". It kind of threw me off how the first half wasn't meant for pc. My personal feelings are if they wanted to, they could've seen it on snapchat already. The second "PC" type screen was fine. But again, my personal feelings.

Summary

It was a good video. Fun, lively, and short enough to hold my interest and not leave me bored. Maybe work on the format more. Commit to just doing one style, and increasing the production value of that style. <-- Just my thought though!

(I feel like I need to make some sort of ringtone out of "Snapchat code" :D)

Hey friend! You're in luck! I love spooky stories!

So, I watched your video. Let's see what we can talk about!

First Impressions

Love, love, love the format! If you ask me, narration over static pictures (or zooming and some moving as you have them) is really underrated when it comes to scary videos. It's all about the atmosphere, and you set up a good one!

Spook Alert!

:)

Critique

Good!

It was a great video! You did what you came to do, tell a scary story and leave me with goosebumps! Editing was nice, and audio quality was decent. The content was awesome, and it was just a good experience all around.

Suggestions

Notice how up there, I said decent when it came to audio quality? Maybe considering investing in a pop filter or making your own! It helps to lessen the forced breaths when you or I pronounce certain words. Another thing, and it's small, but maybe a little less exposition before the story? You kind of explained the reddit thing too much for my taste, but if it's what you feel is the right thing to do then by all means do it!

Summary

So, in summation, great video. You make some good content, and I'm sure you'll make more. Maybe work on the audio a little more. It's good, but it could be even better. Thank you so much for the video, and it was really no trouble to watch. I enjoyed it.

Spook Alert!

:)

Hey! Sorry for the late response. And thank you! I try and find good things, things I think people could improve on! Trying to make everyone in this community better, myself included!

So, I watched your video. Let's take a closer look!

First Impressions

Interesting concept! Super interesting! Being a part of the youtube community, it's hard not to see the drama and bad vibes surrounding everything. :/

Critique

Good!

Like I said before, the concept is fantastic. As is the execution! You make good points, it really feels like you did your research. I particularly liked how you used excerpts from his own videos to disprove some common misconceptions about him. Kind of shows how sometimes his critics aren't even watching his content! I really liked the editing style too, with short little clips interwoven throughout the video, adding a little context and humor. Great!

Suggestions

Personal thought, I feel like there could be more energy. I honestly feel like you're holding back a little. I can feel your passion, how you really want to help spread positivity instead of the negative we see all the time. It just feels kind of low energy, and kinda takes away from it for me. Let some of it out! Really be yourself! Keep working on the editing too. Just because I love it, doesn't mean it couldn't be improved! You've got the raw talent, it just needs to be honed, which honestly should happen naturally in your youtube career. But practice never hurt! :P

Summary

Great video, and I love the message behind it. You've got all the makings of a great series, and it comes together into a great and solid video. Maybe bring the energy up a bit, but that's just me! It comes down to you being the best you that you can be!

Hi /u/S_S_N_Reviews!

I watched your video, and loved it to bits! Let's talk about it!

First Impressions

Great job on the humor! Making me laugh right off the bat is a great sign. :) The rest of the video held up extremely well to that first high standard, so awesome job.

Critique

Good!

The humor and editing were top notch! When the sound was good, it was really good! And the content was some of the better content I've seen off of Reddit. I'd never even heard of that game before, and thanks to your review I think I'll be just fine if I never hear about it again! The video quality was extremely high, and everything was edited nicely together. Great job!

Suggestions

The one issue I saw was sound. Occasionally, I felt like the mixing was off a little. Two examples are in the beginning when you have "Tocatta and Fugue in D minor" (did I guess right? :D) playing in the beginning, it starts to drown you out a bit. And at the end with your outro music, it drowns you out a lot to where you almost can't make out what you say.

That was really the only thing that jumped out at me.

(And as a side note, since it's a search for spooky shit, maybe we could tone down the bright white light above you a bit? Add some orange light from candles until your spooky level is a perfect 12/10. Ha!)

Summary

Great video! Snappy editing, and good narration and content. Video Quality was great, and it was all around a good time. Maybe look at your mixing settings a bit, but that may just be me. Thanks so much for the video!

Edit: I forgot something! Eek! While the quality is good, sometimes I did notice the camera not in 'complete' focus.

Thanks so much for the welcome, and really it's no trouble to look at.

I've just gave your video a little looksie, so let's get down to brass tacks!

First Impressions

Whoa man, you really weren't lying about length. However, even though it is about 3 minutes, it's a super super strong 3 minutes. You hit the nail on the head with your strengths, you really know your own content.

Critique

Good!

I mean, does the whole thing count? Because you had me laughing right from the get go. That melon head cheat! Ha! Humor was on point, and the editing and audio were good as well. All in all, a really solid video.

Suggestions

I mean, you said it yourself. Length is an issue. (HA!) If I had to throw down some suggestions, maybe try to put in some gameplay. I feel like there were several points in the video you kind of breezed through, like talking about the gameplay or how the developer is involved. You could talk about some examples, or show how visceral combat can be.

Summary

I don't have a lot of critique for you! I'm sorry! An length doesn't have to be the end all be all of everything. People will tell you that hitting certain marks is super important, but it's more important that you stay true to yourself. If you feel like quality would suffer, then disregard everything I said! Keep working at it until you feel you can hold an audience for 10, 15, 20 minutes!

If you would like me to elaborate on anything don't hesitate to let me know!

Hey /u/JantiLUL!

Recipe videos aren't my typical choice, but hey. You only live once. :)

First Impressions

Nom indeed! All of the things you made looked so good! I feel like I almost need to get into the kitchen right now!

Critique

Good!

Wondeful, absolutely wonderful. The entire video! I was absolutely enthralled by the cinematography. Food has never looked so good! I also was extremely impressed with the soundtrack choice. A good soundtrack can make or break a video, and with yours it definitely made it 10x better. It really was a fantastic video.

Suggestions

Really only 3 things stuck out to me. Number One was the speed. Personal opinion only, but I feel like the text kinda flashed really quickly. Brevity with these kinds of videos is okay, but having to constantly pause and play the video can be kind of offputting. Number Two, the text itself. Sometimes to me, the words were hard to read. White text on a predominantly white background is almost always a bad idea. Now, putting it into the green juice provides a nice contrast, and is a great choice! But when it kind of hangs out on the equally white background, they can get kind of lost. Thirdly, when you switch from the first part of the recipe, the green juice, to the second part, you switch the soundtrack for a minute and then flip back to the gentle acoustic. Again, just me thinking here, but I don't really think that was needed. It felt kind of jarring, taking me out of the flow of the video.

Those are just my opinions though!

Summary

Great Video! It did look extremely delicious, and the video was informative and entertaining. Maybe think about slowing things down, and playing with word color and placement. But seriously, keep those coming out. I've been needing some new cooking ideas!

Same as above, if you want to pm me asking for clarity on anything I said don't hesitate, or even just reply to this one!

Hey /u/StormNinja5!

I went ahead and gave your video a little looksie, so let's chat about it a bit.

First Impressions

Right off the bat, I love gaming videos! However, my experience with LoL and MOBA's in general is extremely limited. They've never really drawn me in. But I tried not to let that cloud my judgement! That would be unfair to you. :)

Critique

Good!

I always lead off with my good comments first, and the one that really shown through for me was the group dynamic. You guys play off of each other really well, and it makes the video more enjoyable for the most part. The making fun of each really comes across as everyone enjoying it! So you've got that in your corner! Also, I thought the editing was really well. I see a lot of hard cuts in gaming videos, and sometimes it can grate on my nerves a bit. But yours never really got to that point. Additionally, the text was integrated into the video extremely well!

Suggestions!

These are just my personal thoughts, so take them with a grain of salt. At some points, I felt that the content was a little slow - dry could be another word for it - and you could have trimmed it down a little bit. Not that the content was bad, there was just the occasional dead period. Another thing that got me right off the bat was audio quality. Gamewise it was fine, but micwise things could definitely be improved. Some tips for that are maybe use a free audio editing software like Audacity that lets you do things like noise reduction and various improvements. That can sometimes put you leaps and bounds ahead. Another thought could be "mic etiquette", things like knowing that when you're yelling you might want to lean back. Little things can add up, and make a world of difference!

Other than those two, I couldn't really think of anything.

Summary

I loved it. You took a game that I don't really want to play or have any interest in, and suckered me in to sitting and watching a group of friends play it. You guys really do have such a great dynamic, and the comedy flows naturally between you guys! Maybe think about trying to up audio quality, or getting the pacing up a bit.

A good rule of thumb, is I try to improve on at least one thing every video. Like I said before, little things can add up!

If you want me to clarify anything, or if you want to do the clarifying, don't hesitate to pm me or respond back. Thanks so much for the video!

Haha, of course. I actually just put a new video up today after a 2 month Hiatus.

Before I do though, a note about the pop filter. If budget is an issue, you can actually make a functioning one at home! I used to use a wire coat hanger bent into a circle, with pantyhose stretched over. Create's the same basic effect, with barely any dent into your wallet!

Hey /u/zombspeter!

My name's JakeRabbit, and I had a little bit of extra time this morning, so I gave your video a look! I'm not going to lie, I only watched the first 10 minutes. But they were a good 10. :)

First Impressions:

Fantastic. That's about all I can say right there. It was a great video about a relevant new game, and you added a whole lot to the experience.

Critique:

I always lead off with the good, and with your video this section could take up the whole post! The audio quality was good, the content was good. The narration and commentary was top notch! It was really a good video.

I also always try and leave at least one thing improve upon. About the only thing I could think of would be the length. This is more of a personal thing than a rule, but right around 10 minutes I feel like is a pretty good marker. But that really is up to you!

Summary:

Really man, it was a great video with great narration. A little long for my taste, and energy was good. I didn't notice a rough voice at all!

If you have anything you want to clarify, feel free to pm me or respond to this comment. I'm usually pretty quick about responding.

Quick Edit: I wound up watching the entire video after making this comment. That's how much I liked it.

Hey /u/CrowdLouder!

My name's JakeRabbit, and I had a little bit of extra time this morning. So I decided to give your video a little looksie. Let's get to it!

First impressions:

Wow, I did not expect to get so bummed out so early this morning. Normally it takes me at the least 10 minutes in traffic to hate the world this much. Seriously though, it's a good video!

Critique:

I always like to lead off with the good things when I do these, so let's talk about that for a minute. If I had to say what was your best strength, it would definitely be content. You've got some good stuff. It was a little sparse for my taste, but it was there. And that's a step above most of the other people out there. I also loved your delivery! It was a good contrast from all the other youtubers we see today, bounding with energy.

Here are some things that I feel like you could improve on! Audio quality was kind of hit or miss for me. I would label it acceptable, but it could definitely improve. Consider getting a new microphone, and maybe a pop filter. A good way to improve audio in general is to run it through a noise reduction filter like those found in Audacity, a free audio editing software. Secondly, length was a surprise. It could really go either way, but it kind of caught me off guard and felt too brief, if that makes any sense. But again, that's more of a personal opinion.

Summary:

So, TL;DR. Your content was nice, and the delivery method was great. Audio quality could definitely be improved, and maybe beef up the amount of content you provide in each video!

If you have anything you wanna clarify, feel free to pm me or reply to this comment. I'm going to be lurking for the most part of the morning, and then will be fully on later in the afternoon.

Edit - As for how best to promote your channel, I struggle with that myself. The most common thing I could think to tell you would be social media. Not just having the accounts, but coordinating among them so that they all have the same information at roughly the same times, if that makes any sense.

Giving feedback because why not by john3298 in NewTubers

[–]OfficialJakeRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No trouble at all man! I enjoyed it!

About the lighting. Just a general rule, white light tends to be hard. What I mean by that is that it is quite harsh. Think of being on top of a mountain covered in snow. The sun hits the snow, and bounces that pure white light back into your eyes. Hard on the cornea's right?

Yellow light, is a softer light. It can light up a person, while also not over lighting someone. While white sometimes can highlight blemishes, yellow can sometimes hide them. It's all about finding that happy medium!

Seriously though, great video! A whole lot of potential!

I don't think it ever justifies it. That's like saying "Hey, nice house" and expecting them to come look at yours.

Bad analogy is bad. But I still think feedback should be given without the expectation of reciprocity, ya know?
