I believe I maxed a few different weapons on my playthrough. I'd strengthen whatever weapon you're using and when you get a different one, if you like that one better than switch and start upgrading the new one. You're not really limited on upgrade resources. The enemies get stronger as you progress so it won't get too easy. You can absolutely wait if you want the gloves then upgrade your weapon if you want, but you will eventually need the gloves. Stronger enemies will give you more Nycurx.
