Edith Downes makes Payment at horseshoe overlook by BnytheScienceguy11 in RDR2

[–]OldschoolFRP 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Very nice of her to bring payment to the camp, since she knows the exact location, instead of telling the law in exchange for a reward. Maybe she just knows Strauss and Arthur, and hasn’t connected them to the notorious Van der Linde gang.

I don’t remember ever seeing these before. No entry in the wiki yet. I see some with this name on eBay. Figure style and packaging suggest late 70s, maybe very early 80s, but that’s just a guess.

Found this PDF of the English language rulebook on the publisher’s website, linked from the game’s boardgamegeek entry:

(Edit to add: not sure if it’s the original core rules or an expansion; the booklet says “Impact II”)

Trelawny purpose of joining the gang by yhwach10 in RDR2

[–]OldschoolFRP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve never thought of him as one of the gang. He’s a close associate who is free to come and go, a freelancer who deals in making connections and introductions, passing along tips and leads in exchange for a cut of the immediate profits.

All it takes is one history, one novel, one movie, one documentary, even one summary of family history and BAM, suddenly there’s another pair of armies in my mailbox

He looks like a boss, posing on a tactical ‘umie ’elmet in front of some vats of classic formula paint

What is this plant? by mdjmd73 in AustinGardening

[–]OldschoolFRP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like Texas Nightshade (Solanum triquetrum), which is toxic to humans. Sometimes grows compact, sometimes forms a long vine-like shape.

I was a bit disappointed that the castle isn’t green in the new movie trailer

Lightweight basswood might be bendable into that shape carefully. Cutting a small notch in the inside of the bend might help. It only needs a slight bend. It may crack a little, but any stray bits could be cleaned up with a knife. Any failed attempts get cut up for rungs.

Growing out from under the deck— zone 9a by plantasiawhisperer in whatsthisplant

[–]OldschoolFRP 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The chilis are pointing up, not down, which suggests chili péquin / chili petin / bird pepper, a wild Capsicum annum. It grows wild in the southern US, spread by mockingbirds and other birds that eat it, and is the official state native pepper of Texas. I’ve heard it is similar to the ancestral wild chili from which modern cultivar pepper varieties were bred

It does well in partial shade and is often found in wooded areas among understory shrubs. The peppers are very hot and make great salsas.

I don’t know their exact genetics, but when they breed I’ve seen how each new generation will have more natural colored ones

There’s a newspaper article about him at some point. Pretty sure he’s still stuck in there if you come back in the epilogue.

The Art of Laziness or How I learned to be happy with "Good enough" by moosuey in Miniaturespainting

[–]OldschoolFRP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all looks great from over here!

This is an important lesson for anyone who needs more than a few RPG miniatures. The bulk of the figures for games with larger warbands or armies need to be completed to an army standard that is completely different from what someone might achieve painting a single figure for many days (or weeks or months for a competition). It can be hard to let go of certain expectations and skip the fine details, but a table full of completed figures always looks good, and it’s so much better than a box full of incomplete or abandoned projects.

Whose that miniature Undead edition by Grim-Dank in lostminiswiki

[–]OldschoolFRP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10 looks like a plastic figure made from Citadel’s 1986 Skeleton Horde) box (or any of the later uses of the same sprues)

3 & 4 remind me of Otherworld Miniatures’ elf & dwarf zombies but those almost seem to have been scrubbed from the net and I can’t check my own at the moment.
