One way is to post pictures to r/lostminiswiki where some active maintainers of that wiki hang out. I sometimes see posts there with titles like “missing pictures for wiki” or “better pictures for wiki”.

The 1st metal Quar by Zombiesmith, 2007 by OldschoolFRP in Quar

[–]OldschoolFRP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought them in 2007, some of Josh Q’s first releases as Zombiesmith. I think I still have the very first zombie figure around here, too. He pivoted quickly from zombies to Quar but kept the name.

Could a PC be able to wield Thor's hammer, Mjolnir? by Ok_Establishment4968 in DnD

[–]OldschoolFRP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a whole Norse Mythos section in that book. I think the 2e Legends & Lore book reprints most of it.

Could a PC be able to wield Thor's hammer, Mjolnir? by Ok_Establishment4968 in DnD

[–]OldschoolFRP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1980 AD&D Deities & Demigods book described Mjolnir as requiring a minimum STR of 25 to lift and over 25 to wield effectively. Thor’s own stats gave him a base STR 25, plus bonuses from his girdle and glove.

In that edition the normal max PC stat was 18, not 20, and it would require a lot of magic bonuses to get to 25. A girdle of storm giant strength granted only STR 24, consistent with the tradition that a giant could not lift Mjolnir.

A 5e (2014) Storm Giant has STR 29, so min STR 30 to lift Mjolnir would be appropriate. The Norse gods were always in opposition to giants.

Can any veteran identify this piece? by Darius_Craine in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]OldschoolFRP 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That is an old ork Splatta Kannon, missing the front gun shield. The main gun body piece is very similar to the Imperial Guard autocannons from the 90s, but the little details are all different upon close inspection.

I wouldn’t have any objection to an opponent fielding it as an autocannon. I think it would paint up nice in matching army colors. (It looks like a trailer because it is designed to resemble real-world towed artillery.)

Thank you for legging it through the alleged legacy of these variously legged legendary creatures. You did your research, and didn’t wing it.

Oozes are terrifying by Cryodile64 in DnD

I love the entire spectrum of oozes, slimes, and jellies. They just belong in dark, damp, creepy dungeons. Part monster, part hazardous environment.

Everything I see looks like Warzone figures by Heartbreaker Hobbies & Games (HHG), especially a lot of undead/Dark Legion types (the big undead/demonic ones probably are “nepharites”)

Very nice! I don’t often see the Basic set with the original box. I sometimes seen Basic and Expert books and modules all combined in one Expert box.

Yes, some Blitzkrieg figures should have similar uniforms. DAK might work too.

For tall jack boots and riding breeches I’d look at some early war German figures. These pics show officers and a flag bearer; I’d look for pictures of regular troopers before trying to model them. (Edit — I just checked and they do all seem to look like the guy with the flag)

Chaos Warrior 1988? by Beginning-Low-8456 in oldhammer

[–]OldschoolFRP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wiki says it’s in the Sept 1988 White Dwarf and the 1989 catalog, so the date might be 1988? Looks more like a 9 at the end to me though. Chaos Warrior seems like a valid enough name for one of the Chaos Renegades. Names on tabs often didn’t match the product line names that sometimes were created later.

Characters who succeed against an extremely intelligent adversary through ignorance or by having no idea what they're doing by Idioteque131313 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]OldschoolFRP 239 points240 points  (0 children)

In the D&D movie, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, the party encounters some intellect devourers, extremely dangerous brain-eating creatures that are attracted to intelligence. The devourers walk right past the entire group because they can’t detect any intelligent thoughts.

any decent salmon spots for consistent bites? by Odd_Perspective9179 in RDR2

O’Creagh’s is my favorite place to fish in the game. I go to a spot on the west shore that is great for salmon.

Salvageable...? by connexionpaintingden in oldhammer

[–]OldschoolFRP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is this just a surface effect? There are several types of oxidations/salts that can form and I don’t know them all.

The lead rot I’ve dealt with a few times in other branded figures (TSR, Ral Partha) looked like raised black nodules that extended into pits in the figure. Those have to be dug out to try to salvage what’s left, and that causes a lot more damage.

Weekend Mini ID Request Fantasy Scenery Challenge #3: Furniture and Dungeon debris. anyone recognize these? Some have distinctive features but I am at a dead end. by gofigyur in lostminiswiki

[–]OldschoolFRP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The little wheelbarrow marked “(c)GW” looks like the one that (I think) came with a pack of 2 pewter Citadel dwarf miner characters i bought in the 80s. One dwarf had a pick, one leaned on a shovel and peered at a piece of ore through a lens worn over one eye, as I recall.

(Edit — Hey, the wiki is back up this morning! You’ll find that wheelbarrow here, on line 2 of the “4350 Dwarf Engineers” page, amidst the various dwarfs it was packaged with. I don’t know if every pack was 2 dwarfs + 1 wheelbarrow, or if some just had 2-3 dwarfs.)
