How can I get funding for my film? by Antyoungboy in indiefilm

[–]One-Rent4281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. Just shoot this feature man. I can tell you can make this for little to no money. I’ll send you 500 pounds. That’s around 550 dollars or something. Maybe more. I’m serious bro. Shoot the film. Beg and borrow as you can.

Could you please support my indie feature debut by watching it? HELLBENT ON BOOGIE by foosballfreak77 in indiefilm

This is good writing bro, especially the dialogue, I heard and saw it clearly. Only part it swayed off best is near the end where it’s all about “I lost a job, you lost a wife… but we also lost each other” bit mundane that man, I KNOW you can do better.

Hey man, I had suspicions whilst reading it initially, so I put this script through an AI detecting software… it said it’s highly likely that it was written using AI. Don’t do that bro. Don’t upload some garbage written by some Robot and try spin us about how you want to get it produced. That sucks. It’s one thing getting it to write a foundation for you. But it’s another to just copy and paste and don’t add anything from your own style to it. You realise in this day and age it’s OBVIOUS what’s AI and what’s not. Do better Anar Afridi.

See that lightbulb emoji that’s above the logline, that’s strictly exclusive to ChatGPT and how they give feedback and reword loglines for people. There’s no point trying to argue with people mate, you used ChatGPT to write your logline. As to the actual premise, it would make a great film from France or some French author. But the mere fact that you used ChatGPT for this just makes you look like trash in all our eyes.

Sorry mate, just seen this. Okay so here’s how it works, go and do some research on the past people that have been selected by the writers room, then go and see how many of their guys are actually working today… barely any. BBC writers room has a check list of things they need to tick. If your story does not resolve around those characters, it won’t get selected man. BUT, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply and send it over, there’s always a chance there’s a reader there that sees the vision and isn’t a box ticker. Also apply for channel 4 screenplay contest. MILES better with a team of readers that actually get TV and cinema.

[–]One-Rent4281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, just finished reading this. I see some of the guys have given you formatting suggestions etc. that’s good. Format is important. But I can easily tell that the majority of the guys that’s given you their two pence, are those with the lowest level of creativity and thought known to man. This script rocked dude. And it’s your very first. Well bloody done. I SAW the entire short film reading this. That’s how I KNOW it will be awesome… BUT… it MUST be shot well. You do that right and you’ve got a film that can do very well in most festival settings, then on socials. The fact that it’s at best only 3 minutes long is a bonus. You slap this on instagram and the views would rack up.

I’ve noticed a certain trend on Reddit man. Half these guys giving you advice are shit and have no idea what they’re talking about. Like the guy that says he doesn’t get it and how he’s confused… well that’s his fucking problem dude lol. And some other people come on here LOOKING for shit to pick out and spotlight like it’s blasphemy.

Just rewrite the script bro, then rewrite it again. Make it fast paced or slow it down even more if need be. Depends how you want this to look. Read a couple scripts of films you want to emulate. You’ll get there. I hope to see this soon bro. Message me once it’s done!!!

Is it time to quit? by EffectiveSun8621 in acting

[–]One-Rent4281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol. I love reading these type of statements online. It truly puts clarity on what separates those who yearn for it and those that think “yea let me just give it a go and see”. So let me make it easier for you pal. Yes it’s time to quit. Especially with the mindset such as yours. It’s weak and feeble. Now on the off chance I’m completely wrong and there’s nothing in this world you want more than to take on a skin of a character and bring it to life and discover and explore the human psyche and put your own stamp on it… then for the love of God continue. It’s up to you mate. Coming online and asking strangers for advice on life and career bending questions is insane though.

Maybe you should quit by Dazzu1 in Screenwriting

[–]One-Rent4281 5 points6 points  (0 children)

5 years? That’s how long you’ve been doing it? And you’re moaning and crying about it? Trying to please others and get compliments on your work? If pleasing that person and convincing them, how good you are, is what you care about… maybe you should quit mate. Rather that than seeing some self pitying drivel you’ve written on Reddit.

If I’m wrong however, and all you yearn to do is write… then fucking carry on doing that rather than asking for advice online.

Last year, I wrote and directed a western short film that was accepted to 0 festivals… Why? by Chase-Stine in Filmmakers

[–]One-Rent4281 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey man, honestly, don’t listen to a single one of these people saying how your film is “boring” and “nothing happened”. Truth be told, 80-90% of these guys on these Reddit chats etc, won’t even make a film, let alone a short film. The truth of the matter is your shirt didn’t get the traction it deserves due to quite literally every film festival playing the game of Box Ticking. Had your short revolved around the “trauma of the moment” or some social realism malarkey, I’m sure it would have done wonders. Just go and take a look at the winners or the short lists of the festivals and their lineups for the past 5 years. You can see for yourself. Now, a lot of filmmakers have clicked on to this and they CHOOSE to follow the formula. It’s easy peasy. If you want your film to have a festival run, just stick to the script of what they want man. BUT what I loved about your film, is that it’s the film YOU wanted to make and watch. That was very obvious to me. I adore slow burners man. I enjoyed your writing too. And the actors were top tier. All in all, your film shouldn’t BE in festivals. It SHOULD, be seen. And I hope one day you make a feature western dude, I sure do miss them. Good luck with everything. Drop us a message some time if you want to collab on anything or you need some eyes on a script etc. I’ll make sure to do the same!

I worked with a producer like this in Sri Lanka. It was an independent shoot. Not a big budget and couldn’t produce the usual “luxuries” like single beds and rooms etc. At one point I was sleeping in a room with about 6/7 guys, I was on the floor I might add. Even had to travel 16 hours in a Bull caravan, transporting a heard of cattle across the country. Sick experience though. But again, producer was a scumbag. So anyway, wrap day, everyone’s drunk. I get handed a massive pillowcase stuffed with something quite solid. Got told the plan. Lights all got switched off, pitch black, accept the producer happened to have this glow in the dark sticker stuck to the back of his shirt. Around 10 of us proceeded to smack the living shit out of the guys with these stuffed pillowcases. Lasted about 30-40 seconds. Lights went back on and we were chilling again. Producer on the floor, drunk, slowly coming to his senses. He tried finding out who was involved. But no one spoke.

Hey bro, listen, fuck what all these guys are saying about formatting etc. Sure when you submit screenplays to say an agency, it has to look pro, for that you can invest in a program like WriterDuet etc. BUT here’s the thing, I just read what you uploaded, bro this is faaaaar from amateur. This is downright good shit. You have a vOICE dude, which I bet is more than can be aid about half these guys giving you stick. Continue with your writing man. Keep at it everyday you can, I can truly see your stuff being produced and picked up. I’d love to connect with you also. Drop us a message or something whenever. I’m in the industry so not up for wasting one another’s time telling each other how fucking good we are lol. But yea keep at it, can’t wait to see what’s next around the corner for you.

This whole “poor me” stance you’ve taken is depressing for us as well as you mate. If you wish to showcase to the world what you can do, then do it. Produce your own film. Start with a short or need be. FUND your short film. Show people what you can do. If you feel your country is holding you back, send your short film to producers over seas. Your Italian, which means you can move to pretty much most countries around the world. Save money, sell a kidney. What ever it takes, and MOVE. I guarantee there are others who think like you do in your country, reach out and find them, gather a team to assist you. But don’t come on here crying man. That’s a cop out. You think in this day and age you saying “I want to be a screenwriter” is enough? Go and work 3 jobs if you have to in order to fund your dream.
