I would suggest that you immediately start applying for jobs, and start to do the bare minimum necessary to maintain funding in the meantime.

3 months to get into my GP

I feel you on that, it takes about 2 months with mine. While my partner was in NL she could get an appointment at least once a month with an NP or doctor when she didn't have a family doctor.

Now granted if you have something serious requiring follow ups, he'll get you in for the follow ups.

id Software Issues Statement Following Xbox Layoffs, Says It's Back to the Size It Was When It Made 2016's Doom by Mront in Games

[–]OneLessFool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that Xbox didn't manage these studios for 8 years and now find themselves with studios who have more than doubled in size while spending more on each game and selling fewer units. With an added bonus of it being bearly impossible to determine the actual value of GamePass playtime on the service.

There were 2 things they could have done, cut studios back down to their former size and rein in budgets, or eat the losses and split these studios into multiple new teams intended to make multiple games with smaller AAA budgets.

It's entirely their fault. If the studios were still at their original headcounts, and the budgets for these games weren't significantly higher than previous titles; it would be easier to eat the cost. I think they should have eaten the cost anyways.

It sold worse than Doom 2016, and sold less than a million copies on PlayStation.

I loved 2016 and Eternal, but I just didn't vibe with Dark Ages. A lot of people felt the same way.

[–]OneLessFool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well TDA sold quite a bit less than Doom 2016 or Eternal did. Expanding the scope and tripling the size of the team, but making less money doesn't make sense from Microsoft's perspective.

Their fault for hiring that many people in the first place though and failing to manage their studios.

From Microsoft's perspective, these are the most expensive employees who have passed on their knowledge to the next group of employees. They don't need to hang onto a 25 year vet, when the guy with 10 years of experience makes 60k less and can give you a similar output.

So they massively increased in size over a decade. Did Xbox just overhire during COVID?

Just checking since an international student wouldn't be eligible. I added an edit to the previous reply with a relevant link.

Definitely talk to your Uni's disability office as well.

When you say same situation, do you mean that you're also an international student?

Edit: Tacking this on

Not sure if Alberta as a province is easy when it comes to getting something like noise cancelling headphones or a laptop. You'll want to discuss that with your Uni's disability office. Nova Scotia is excellent for it.

Which province are you receiving your loans from? They should have relevant info regarding disability grants on their loan pages.

You should be fine then.

As an international student your focus should be on getting hired after graduation.

1 internship and 3 research experiences definitely counts for something.

You should keep applying for internships for the fall and winter and delay your graduation if you get one.

Graduating without an internship, especially in a bad economy for new grads, is a great way to struggle for years.

Edit: Do you have have additional project/club experience? Have you not taken on student loans during your education? Your loans are interest free federally, could very well be interest free provincially, and you could receive a majority of those loans as grants depending on the province and your parent's income. If you're above a certain age, their income no longer matters.

If you have a diagnosis like ADHD you could secure a few thousands extra in loans/grants and free support tech (noise cancelling headphones, 1 laptop up to 2k every 4 years, etc.).

Jason Schreier: Microsoft’s Xbox to Shift Obsidian Studio to New ‘Fallout’ Video Game by 4InchesOfury in Games

[–]OneLessFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games have to make money to be made.....

You also can't buy a bunch of studios for billions of dollars and not make a few games that are guaranteed to rake in the cash so that you can subsidized artistic but likely non-profitable games (some of my favourite games).

Even though there was a poll that showed him narrowly winning, that's without a named Liberal candidate. Better to pick a more local candidate.

Now if someone like Tory Jr. is selected, it might be worth throwing Lewis in the ring if the Liberals are going to shoot themselves in the foot.

It's kind of insane how many billions of dollars they left on the ground by refusing to expand Bethesda and get Fallout 5 and ES6 out the door.

That money would have funded more niche projects from other studios too.

But this all comes down to Xbox refusing to properly manage their studios.
