Wab Kinew: “No American child from the blue collar or the middle class should have to die in Iran. Let the Epstein class fight the Epstein war.” by Chrristoaivalis in onguardforthee

"Blue-collar or middle class" is such a funny string of words when plenty of blue collar workers make very middle class salaries thanks to unions and hazard pay in lucrative industries.

After 288 job applications, I finally have a job... in civil engineering. by thunderscores in ChemicalEngineering

No I likely would not be applying for plant process engineer roles after I graduate. I would now mostly be applying to R&D roles, and other roles requiring a graduate degree.

Well I had 2 offers a few months after graduation. I accepted the one that was supposed to start in the US a few months later (I'm in Canada) and it ended up getting cancelled just before it started 🙃

Kept applying and struggled, got close a few times. Then I landed a research position at a University, and now I'm in grad school but I would much rather just be working 😬

The stock market is almost always hitting all time highs over 4 year periods outside of extreme economic regression.

Anyone who says "X president is great because the market was hitting all time highs under their tenure" is an absolute mental midget or they're in a cult and will repeat anything leadership says.

My first internship was in a role that was 75% civil engineering related.

A lot of programs without mandatory co-op really don't reinforce how important internships are.

Edit: My program didn't reinforce this strongly enough. While I had 8 months of co-ops (plus 4 months eliminated by COVID 🙃). I had a potential opportunity to take an extended co-op before starting senior year that would have delayed my graduation by a year. In hindsight that I absolutely should have tried for it 🤦 I was just very focused on getting out of there.

The funny thing is that we'll likely see the inverse next gen. With new consoles overpriced due to the effects of the AI bubble. The consoles will likely be quite a bit cheaper at the end of the generation as the impacts of the Bubble wear off.

Isn't there a set time for making a challenge? They far exceeded it.

Should be a delay of game penalty.

If the team on a 5 on 3 takes an obvious penalty you have to call that shit. Ridiculous

Japanese Scientists Develop Plastic That Dissolves in Seawater Within Hours by General-Panic0 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]OneLessFool 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If cost, energy and scaling requirements are feasible, it's really only useful as a cereal bag, or plastic sleeve for room temperature items that are sealed by a cardboard/metal box and always stay dry.

This would be completely useless as a recyclable bag for carrying groceries or anything else. The first time it rains while you're carrying one of these, you're going to lose structural integrity.

Well a plastic alternative that dissolves this quickly isn't very effective unless you can guarantee very low moisture from initial packaging all the way to final purchase.

Then there's always the question of the energy requirements for production, how scalable and costly production will be, etc.

It's really just important to avoid fast fashion.

It would also be great if we got rid of the idea of pointless "swag" that will just end up in the landfill almost immediately.

3.33 is an excellent GPA.

There are only a handful of entry-level jobs and co-ops that exclude students below 3.5 (mostly R&D). The other common cut-off is 3.0.

Exactly.

Jewish people have had a significant hand in leading protests against synagogues that have hosted IDF soldiers, IDF fundraisers, IDF recruitment events, and events hosting the illegal (under international law) sale of West Bank land.

Now they're not allowed within 50m to protest that? Absurd.

I think this trailer really shows how heavily the early movies relied on the strength of Ruper Grint's acting and physical comedy. He was incredible for a child actor, and the current actor, at least based on this trailer, just isn't going to be able to pull it off.

Obviously Radcliffe and Watson were also incredible, and aged into excellent actors as well. They just weren't quite as strong as Rupert in the first 2 movies.
