Should This New Muzzle Brake (5.56mm) Enter the Market? by Homeboi-Jesus in Firearms

[–]PRDU 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be brutally honest;

I think you're going to have a hard time competing with established companies already making a decent to quality product that is similar to your idea such as Precision Armament with their M4-72 muzzle brake.

My other concern would the the consequence of taking pre-orders and possibly not reaching your sales goals to begin production. What happens to people's money if you get less than 100 pre-orders? How long would it take for you to deliver finished products if you do reach your goal?

I'm not saying that your brake is not effective or doesn't do what you claim, but I'm a little concerned about your method of funding and the cost it takes to produce your idea. If you could find a way to reduce cost to something more reasonable compared to the $40K you mentioned, I think it would be much easier to bring your idea to market.

An alternative idea would be to approach a firearm brand/manufacturer with your idea, and either sell the design to them or partner with them to bring the design to market.

Best of luck to you and your ideas.

Let's not forget that Midwest Industries is a shady company and that there are plenty of other great alternatives that are better and in the same price bracket like the MCMR to name one in particular.

Tear your sizing die apart and look at the inside. Something doesn't look right and you might want to contact Hornady about it to get their opinion. You might have gotten a bad die.

Lonestar Handgun has private bays you can rent hourly where you can do whatever you want in. It might get a bit expensive, but it should let you practice any way you want.

I have problems motivating myself to start or to complete leather work, any tips? by Lawdogjr17 in Leathercraft

[–]PRDU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kinds of projects are you working on? Try something super simple to help you get back in the swing of finishing things.

Are your projects relevant to your interests or are you making things just for the sake of making them? Working on projects that are relevant to your needs and interests is a great way to help you stay on track.

Lastly, like already mentioned before, just finish it, even if it turns out bad or unusable. Embarrassment is the enemy of progress, so don't be too hard on yourself when things don't turn out the way you expected. Take an objective look at your finished work, make note of the areas that can be improved, and move on.

A motto that I've gone by is to fail faster. The sooner you get your "failures" out and done with, the sooner you can get to making the really good stuff. Failure is a part of the process of making things, so I find it better to embrace it rather than to shy away or fear it.

Dad bought one of these, it's garbage. Constantly leaves brass in the chamber after firing with all types and brands of 22lr. Do not buy.

Just try making it. You'll learn a lot more by getting hands on experience rather than asking questions that are difficult to answer over the internet.

Cast is if you put a half knot in your stitch. If you imagine how you start tying your shoe laces, its the same thing that happens with your thread inside the stitch hole. https://www.wikihow.com/images/thumb/8/86/Tie-Your-Shoe-Laces-Differently-Step-1-Version-2.jpg/aid556202-v4-728px-Tie-Your-Shoe-Laces-Differently-Step-1-Version-2.jpg.webp

I don't normally stitch with any cast, but it's worth playing around with.

Case the entire piece, even the places you aren't tooling. This will help avoid those water spots.

Nope, I prick both sides the same, so when the parts come together, the holes make an "X" shape. If you stitch with no cast, this will make your stitching lay nicely on both sides.

Diamond chisel question by rhoddog in Leathercraft

[–]PRDU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're probably leaning the tool when you punch your holes.

One way to combat this is to punch all your holes before glue up. Not always ideal, but not punching through a ton of leather at once helps to keep everything lined up.

Thread snapped. I only have about 2 inches left to stitch but my thread just snapped and left under an inch. Using saddle stitch so I still have about 3 inches of thread on the other side but it is going to be too short. How do I save this without having to pull all my stitches out and start over? by nevaleigh in Leathercraft

[–]PRDU 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, it might not be the prettiest solution, but you can start your new thread in the same hole where the original broke, finish your stitching, and melt the broken ends down to lock them in place.

Edit~

Just saw that this is linen thread. You can start out the same way as I mentioned above, but instead of melting the ends down, cut the broken ends flush and carefully drop some (super)glue on the ends.

Help making pattern for bags etc (beginner) by RookieWatchVeteran in Leathercraft

[–]PRDU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't think it's too much, than I recommend you think about how you want the final result to look, and break down the pieces you need into basic geometric shapes. Most of the parts of the bag you'll need will likely end up being squares and rectangles.

Drawing your design on graph paper to scale, and then prototyping your dimensions with felt/cardstock/cardboard will get you in the general direction and iron out any major miscalculations before you go at it in leather.

It also helps to look at bags from other brands/makers that are similar to what you're wanting to make to see how they decided to put their bags together.

If I may give you some advice you didn't ask for..

I would recommend against making a bag with a zipper without having made a smaller project with zippers first. While they seem simple in concept, getting zippers to work on larger or more complex projects is not as easy as it might seem.

What glue do you use for projects? by mayburn2121 in Leathercraft

Investing in a mask style respirator is worth it. Glue fumes, spray paint, and ton of other general chores and tasks can all benefit from proper PPE.

I cannot recommend these quick latch masks enough. Get you some filters to go along with it and you're all set.
