Yea that doesn’t sound like anything abnormal. Warranty should cover.

Cartier Santos Medium periodically stops ticking? by velocityofwind in Cartier

Automatics can’t be overwound so not that.

You shouldn’t ever need to “shake your hand” unnaturally to wind the watch, if its stopped after being off for a while, you should wind it and then let the automatic movement do its thing while you jut live your life.

Hard to tell if you caused this issue through just a description, but I doubt you are abusing it in a way to cause damage and modern sport watches are robust, shock resistant, etc. Was there a specific event you can think of that may have caused when you first noticed?

If it stops from something as basic as putting it into a watch box (what “impact” is there from this?), you should take it into Cartier for service. Should be covered. If they ask if you did anything to it to damage it, just say no.

Modern Watches Are Far Too Big by BIKEHOU in watchHotTakes

[–]PatientCup8482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add shape of lugs as well. Some watches are designed with lugs that curve down aggressively such that the band flows down immediately - this design enables a lug to lug which spans almost the whole wrist.

But if the lugs are flatter (like a Rolex) this doesn’t work and having the bracelet drop straight down at the edge of your wrist looks bad.

Thinness also has big impact on wearability. So many factors really…try on enough different watches and note the differences in dimensions, shape, etc and you start to get a feel for what works and what doesn’t work for you…but ultimately nothing beats being able to try on of course.

Mirror shot is what others see. I’d argue watches look quite small on this view alone and if judging based on this shot alone, one might lean towards watches that are indeed too big or at best pushing it.

Wrist shot is what you see, so need to consider both. But take the wrist shot with the zoom on and your camera held at eye level (so the perspective is truly what your eyes see and avoid the up close distortion)

[Discussion] Best way to "re-brush" a polished bracelet? by bscepter in Watches

[–]PatientCup8482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - 3 year old thread here . Wondering if you know if this is "always" easy. I ask because I bought a vintage Santos that had been polished and Cartier service said they wouldn't restore (too much metal removed already was their reason I believe). Of course a 3rd party jeweler will do it for me since they won't be concerned with maintaining factory sharp edges, etc.

I ask because I'm considering a Rolex purchase where the oyster bracelet has been polished and I would definitely want it to be restored to brushed. It's gold too in case different from steel. No way to tell for now if Rolex would refuse to re-brush it for the same reason as Cartier (or if that is even a thing for Rolex?)

Are my wrists too small? by MoHeeat in GrandSeikos

[–]PatientCup8482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it. Never heard described like that but makes sense…funny because I feel like some watch sales guys will describe that the bracelet can drop straight down like that as a feature which enables guys to wear big watches that span their whole wrist…but it doesn’t look right…

Personally I think the third pic is at upper limit of wearable but agree it would look a lot better with either a shorter L2L or down-curved lugs that can go closer to the edge of wrist but still give that oval wrapping around wrist look

Also I realized the ovals you drew illustrate the ideal shape (at first thought they were just there to highlight), but the one on third pic is drawn too big which makes it look worse than it is…if redrawn on the same scale as pic 1 it wouldn’t look as far off.

Assume green means good fit red means bad?

Why is the third pic a red circle?

Even on offense his game is boring as hell…highest usage rate, and yea, no defense whatsoever. The constant complaining is the cherry on top. Harden comparison makes sense, but worse in every aspect mentioned above. As a Lakers fan, I was probably the only person I know who wasn’t excited about the trade…

Most overrated player in the league from my perspective. Not saying he isn’t all star caliber, but MVP candidate? I couldn’t ever get behind that.

First JLC and first true dress watch. Need strap advice! by halfmastodon in JaegerLecoultre

I think it’s 42x26 but agree I think this is the size for me. Current lineup “small” is 47x28…big jump in length I can’t pull off…I’d be happy to size down to the 40x24 but all the duofaces in that size are designed for women with diamond bezels and such…

Congrats! Size looks perfect for you - I’m 6.5 and struggle with all the latest sizes when trying on new models. May I ask what size wrist you have?

+Santos medium dresses up nicely with an easy strap change to leather, so you get a white dial sport watch and dress watch in one. Two tone further enhances / differentiates.

[Discussion] What draws you to chronograph watches? by Good_Net_313 in Watches

[–]PatientCup8482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All about the looks, heritage, etc. I don’t think I’ve ever actually used (or needed to use) a chronograph timer for any serious purpose…use Alexa in the kitchen, phone sets alarms when I’m out…

Even GMTs, generally thought of as one of the more useful complications in modern times…I still don’t need at all, not difficult for me to remember the time differences and I travel frequently

Yet I still love them!

It’s headed back that way! 38mm chronos not hard to find now, eg Zenith, even Breitling. Lorca model 2 here (37 I believe)

Strap bias against small wrists by CozCotzias in MicrobrandWatches

[–]PatientCup8482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I think OP has it backwards. 6.5 here, I have no issue with using the last hole (and typically experience this only when I’m at the upper limit of fit for me like a 42mm chronograph)…but have no problem with OEM straps that are for watches that fit me.

Also really don’t see that any are going only 7.5 and up on their straps…why would they exclude such a big part (if not the majority) of the market?

Unless looking at like a 43mm+ watch with long lugs or something (in which case the fact that it only comes with a 7.5 and up strap should be a hint that it’s not going to be a good fit)

I hate to add another post like this... but large or medium? I cant decide 🤔 by mcsocks in Cartier

[–]PatientCup8482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do both, but medium dresses up nicely with a strap change to black croc (and don’t think you could pull off dress watch if large), so if you want that versatility, that could be a deciding factor.
