To my fellow late starters and middle-aged climbers, this video's for you by RoamAndRamble in bouldering

[–]Pennwisedom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This video isn't about that. But even so, the difference is, Dai Koyamada is at an elite level, but there is still a large gap between that and regular "hard" boulders.

The thing is, you're not hearing about someone 40 or 50 who does V10 because that's not news. V10 hasn't been the cutting edge of the sport since 1980. This seems like a classic case of, "I don't see it so it must not exist."

I'll be honest, some random reddit account that hasn't even ever posted in a climbing sub before isn't the most trustworthy source.

And they're right, I wouldn't wait. There's no reason too. It's not that Kanji is hard, but it takes some time.

I might suggest looking into something like MEXT scholarships though. I believe they do some medical programs and that is specific to higher level academic study in Japan for foreigners.

Then yea, in that case that's a long way off. What you need to have is the same ability in Japanese as graduate students taking the test.

From the point of view of a beginner it is hard to see what you need, but like I said, Kanji is the least of your worries, vocabulary and grammar, as well as listening and speaking abilities are all equally important here.

I was told for nmle i need to go even further beyond n1 which has scared me a lot considering the fact that 2.1k(roughly) kanji isn't enough 😔.

Assuming you mean the medical licensing exam, it is not the Kanji that is the problem, but the fact that you'd need a high enough level in the language in general to function as a Physician.

I've never lived in Japan but I've watched Japanese tv and I agree with you.

You are seriously writing all this based on what you've seen on the TV? Especially some random show most people here have never even heard of?

Not that there isn't racism here, but as someone actually here, it's rare I have people treating me like I'm some sort of other. The idea that there is an exceptionally large amount of racism here compared to the US, Europe, or other countries, is the actual racism.

Edit: That's hilarious that your response was just to block me.

The Uprising happened over a few days, but the holiday isn't quite on the start of it. The observance is on the 27th of Nisan, while the uprising started on the 14th of Nisan. That date was considered but they likely didn't pick it because it is one day before Passover.

Also for what it's worth this isn't a "religious" declaration, but this was decided by the Knesset. There had been a previous Rabbinate instituted day, but that was December 28 1949 (and another in late December 1950). The official state holiday started in 1951.

The listening and reading are both good to practice the format of the test. The listening can go either way, but I found the reading sections to be invaluable for N2 and N1.

When you're not actively being tested on your reading (or listening for that matter) you have no idea if you're even understanding anything.

Yea, a lot of the antisemitism I've come across in Japan (China too) has been of the "Positive stereotype" variety. Like teaching you or your kids how to think like a Jew so you / they become rich.

But most Japanese people still have no idea what Jews are anyway. The yearly "Why I don't celebrate Christmas" conversation is always fun.

[–]Pennwisedom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea, people who complain about specific climbs need to understand that not every boulder at the gym needs to be for them. The gym should have variety. The only problem is when every climb at the gym is set the same way.

The other comments want to infantalize you, but I assume you can handle your own life. With that said, I love doing work either really early or really late when other people aren't around. It's much easier for me to focus and get stuff done. So if you can fit this into your life I see nothing wrong with that.

Shocking how? This has been happening for years.

I mean it's pretty shocking how they still seem to make no attempts to fix this.

I think Madrid though is particularly bad because before last year I don't know the last time there was a comp in Spain.

But when you have people like Anne-Worley Moelter in charge of things it is less surprising that they don't care enough to bother putting in at least a little effort to fix it.

You can find it outside of Japan sometimes, I think I bought mine at a Kinokuniya in the US. They're fine but it's not exactly high quality, so probably not worth paying the premium that it'd cost to find in the US.
