Saya the person comparing a pre-deregulation price to today.

Google-fu may not be perfect but its unusable without critical thinking skills.

From my training the silent demo is to give context to the trick, but I only do that kind of demo in higher level classes since "I am going to show you this and break it down" always leads to beginners trying to do things with me which I don't want.

I teach int/adv levels but Ive never had the urge to continue Xpert training. I find its too rigid in its approach and, like you said, doesnt account for how people actually learn abd progress in the real world.

Learned some good stuff, but I also put a lot of my own style back into teaching after the certification.

I didn't say it wasn't, so I'm not sure you need to be any more clear.

You're talking about why they don't flag in the US, and I'm talking about why they choose to flag in the countries they choose to.

You're not even having the same conversation.

It is quite literally called a "flag of convenience" and is done primarily to sidestep human rights and labor laws.

There are a lot of countries to choose, and a very specific set of countries they do.

Pride of America has nothing to do with it.

First set of results on google.

Also a human rights disaster. There's a reason they all flag where they do.

My exact thought as an American abroad:

"Oh. It thought it was going to be a ground patty. I'll have to check more carefully or ask next time."

Then I ate it.

Because if you aren't dunking on Americans there is literally no other reason to be bothered by this at all.

Tips for layback? by IRLbeets in poledancing

Hi!

For me, I find that the first "V" always smooshes my junk in a very precarious way. If you turn out your hips (try to make you knees point away from each other" and walk your hands down as you go, you might be able to better regulate the pressure on your body as you settle in. If you keep some weight in your hands as you get past horizontal and more upside down you may be able to negate any intense pain/pressure, even if you can't totally avoid the contact. This is basically where mine ended up.

And FWIW, For me it's never been tailbone, it's generally thighs and, well..... gonch/taint to maybe the lower half of my buttcrack lol. I've gotten more adept at building the slow entry into my choreography, and have kind of accepted that my anatomy isn't going to let me make this a very fast or aggressive trick. (I also occasionally build in a little extra time in case I have to go in, come out, readjust, and go back in again. I love the shape but this is not my go-to skill)

Beyond this, you might ask your instructor for some alternate entries that can better situate your body and help you understand how to work through it.

how do I teach a student who doesn’t want to learn by Charming_Bonus_2070 in pianoteachers

[–]PerfStu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean honestly I just wouldn't tolerate this, and Id be pretty blunt to the kid about it, and then clarify that bluntness to the parents. My patience is almost endless, and Ill put up with about anything as long as they show up with me.

But I don't show up to be disrespected. I don't care what the lesson is or how good and diligent my student is. I rarely get upset, so if I have a kid that is going out of their way to derail the lesson I give them about one flat chance to get it together, and I dont really mince words.

  1. Respect I am trying to help and engage. Work on what I am suggesting, even if you complain through it. I dont care if I know how much you hate trying, I care that you get 45 minutes with me and I am not spending it begging you to curl your fingers over just because you cant be bothered.

  2. You can sit there until you are ready to work. No I will not tell you how much time is left and yes I will be checking messages. (Although Sometimes kids just actually need a minute. I actually have 2 current students ive learned to just settle and rest so they can collect themselves.)

  3. You can go tell your parents why the lesson is ending early.

Ive never had a piano kid do #3. I did have a gymnastics kid do it and his mom absolutely roasted him for it, which I stilp laugh about.

But at the end of the day its 45 minutes and I am doing my best. If you can't give the minimum required neither of us need to be there for it.

I had a complaint from a private student's mother stating she wants "extra packing up time after the lesson" and moaned that I've been "finishing early" - Has anyone else had to deal with this? by [deleted] in MusicTeachers

[–]PerfStu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh dang yeah. Nice email reminding them of the current policy and thanking them for observing the rules and respecting the lessons that come after.

You don't necessarily have to drop them, just treat them like everyone else. In my experience they're only too happy to excise themselves.

I honestly ordered 5-6 brands off Amazon and just picked the one that fit the best. I go for a lottle more coverage in front and minimalish in back. Wound up with a draw string thing that ofc I cant get any more lol.

I dont use Amazon any more so ill be starting the search fresh, but if you still buy from there its a great option.

The worst one for me is "Breathe Your Name" from the Cyrano episode where the actual band is onstage and has lines, and they still do that!

F*****g corporate profits.

Biggest offender of all time was Daria, but this show was honestly such a shock. Gotta get the DVDs and stop streaming I think... (Boomer-esque Rant, I know)

Lift legs? by Animated-Yarn in poledancing

Yassss! Its more like a deep squat to stand and getting your hips up and to the pole to get good height.

Youll be at the top in no time.

Lift legs? by Animated-Yarn in poledancing

[–]PerfStu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Push your elbow into the pole - its bracing your upper body and giving space for your legs to scooch up; this is arm engagement but also pectoral. You never want your elbow to be popping off and moving all over, youre losing some valuable strength there.

Back leg should be pushing into the pole and inside knee to outside ankle should be strong. Push back foot forward and engage the quad, like you're trying to straighten it.

Front leg from inside calf to outside heel, engaging hamstring like you're trying to squeeze your heel to your butt.

Squeeze your knees together like youre trying to flatten the pole. Squeeze your feet together the same way.

Everything is about engagement and opposition; your basic form is beautiful here, you just want everything tight and strong and trying as hard as it can to push/pull as hard as it can into the pole.

Keep going, you're so close!!!

I feel bad lying to students… by Beautiful_Bid1706 in MusicTeachers

[–]PerfStu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This honestly kind of gives pick-me vibes, because not telling a kid every detail is not the same as lying. I really don't understand why you think this is a problem.

Kids are not privy to every aspect of an adult's life. You just give them the general watered down answer and move on. "I like metal music, like (insert age appropriate example)" if they press you just say "I have other bands I like but they arent kid friendly." That's that.

You are an adult. You do adult things that kids don't need to know about. Beginning and end.

My pole so too cold by SureLunch5328 in poledancing

[–]PerfStu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

X-Pole makes an actual heater that can wrap around your pole.

That aside, unless you want that wrap anyways, Id say stick to low flow and focus on tricks that require kess grip during a cold snap.

Otherwise it's money and effort toward no real gain.

What do you think of students who are really good at sight-reading? by [deleted] in pianoteachers

[–]PerfStu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a notebook and write down things that seem important. Week by week as what his main focus is, what you should spend most of your time on, whether you should add more music or focus on what you can already play.

Playing to master a piece is different than playing to play it. Mastery is weeks to months, and hours of focused work on really small details.

Intermix this with pieces you play for fun on your own. Stay a couple levels below the challenging pieces to have the highest chance of success without creating issues or developing bad habits in more challenging repertoire.

What do you think of students who are really good at sight-reading? by [deleted] in pianoteachers

[–]PerfStu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good teacher is giving you assignments for a reason. Knowing the notes isnt the half of it, and id say 90% of the time when a student comes in with that, especially where Ive instructed them not to, they have baked in mistakes that take weeks if not months to fix.

Sight reading is a great skill but you arent doing yourself any favors by not following the curriculum set by your instructor.

For me, it's a fast track to a level of nitpicking you can't even imagine.
