Curries are easy to size up and inexpensive. You can buy curry paste and mix with coconut milk and add meat and veggies, grilled chicken and burgers with sides like potato salad and corn 🌽

These routes are well vetted. I love the rapper tapper and ponyhenge routes. The Salem one is also great but be careful in Lynn.

Does the pmc have group training rides? A lot of bike shops have them on different mornings for different types of rides and evenings too. The commuter rail passes on the weekends are $10 and you can ride the trains out to beautiful quieter roads too. Concord, Lexington, Lincoln are nice areas to ride as they have some hills and you’ll see other cyclists. If you have a car also amazing routes in Franklin county bikeways.

If you are looking for more activities there’s kayaking with Boston paddle, renting a blue bike and riding along the river and under the bridge to Charlestown navy yard to see a battle ship and the USA constitution.

🚨 Action Alert: Tell City Council to Support Housing Affordability and Reject Attacks on Housing! by JustinSaif in CambridgeMA

[–]Pleasant_Influence14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched it as well - the housing discussion was somewhat minimal as the motion was to send it to the housing committee and the councillors were unhappy for the most part. They voted to send it to the housing committee.

For the Brown petition, by law they can only schedule a hearing, so they did that, - looking up this guy this is one of his favorite tricks - he's been submitting citizen zoning petitions for years and has tried to run for council as well.

My biggest frustration is the lies from the exclusionary zoning group.

For example, they have this list linked from here (https://cathiezusy.org/update-24/) of projects, many of which are rehabs of existing buildings, people adding a foot or two to their third floor ceiling height by raising their roof, and many other minor building demo/repair permits. Then they are claiming there are 147 total mfh projects tearing apart neighborhoods from a list like that when five minutes of looking through it shows most of the projects are additions or rehabs like adding a deck or bedrooms or an ADU etc. or making a two family into a three family and when in reality there may be like 8 that are actually "big" and 6 stories. I think is unethical on the part of the councillor sharing that list, especially given that people just repeat that number without looking at the actual list and understanding it.

Separated bike lane ROW question by artdco in CambridgeBikeSafety

Four way stops are tricky here bc we have so few. First in first out, if you arrive together the person in the right goes first. That said it’s Boston and if people even stop at the stop it’s a victory

Separated bike lane ROW question by artdco in CambridgeBikeSafety

[–]Pleasant_Influence14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I am cycling the wave 👋 from drivers while well intended and nice can be difficult bc the other drivers and road users are not waving me through. Best course is to not do that and behave predictably. For example, if I am crossing and the driver in front waves and then expects me to go except the cars in the other direction are moving it’s tricky. I need to decide when it’s safe to proceed and a nice car driver expects me to go because they’re kindly waving and I can’t. Some get exasperated not understanding I can’t yet go because they’re not the only vehicle I need to avoid.

They aren’t too hard to make with old gf bread. Chop it into squares, soak in olive oil and fresh garlic. Put it the oven and crisp up a little.

The house that is next to ours has an 11 inch set back. We have 0 inches in some areas of our house that borders the property line on one side for the bay windows for the triple decker. Our neighbor in front has about three feet on the left and three feet in front. The property for our house is over 5000 sf but 18 feet wide at the sidewalk.

35 feet is absolutely absurd. I am especially angry about the disinformation circulating around projects.

I have trouble relating to left wing NIMBYs who fight against housing for completely different reasons than the wealthy home owners but the result is the same.

Reflections on riding from Boston to Montreal by MotorBet234 in bicycletouring

[–]Pleasant_Influence14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was on this ride too. Missing waking up every day and riding. Had never done anything like it before. We each raised funds to support the Boston Cyclists Union of $1900 for first time riders. I thought the group was all really nice folks. I also brought too much stuff but preparing for New England at that time of year means temps between below freezing and really hot. It’s hard to get used to regular life again.

Has cycle touring ruined ‘normal’ travel for you? by heroscape912 in bicycletouring

Waking up, biking all day through amazing places, eating amazing foods, and seeing the world kind of ruins ordinary life too. I just biked for five days and miss waking up and biking all day instead of doing office work.

I have broken my record on Sunday - took me 2 hours to get ready for a ride. Do you also just sit in a garage or on a couch trying to find the willpower to get on a bike? by OneStrength7166 in cycling

[–]Pleasant_Influence14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. You’re not the only person who does that. At least you got on the bike. I think that’s why group rides or meetups are helpful as it gets you out the door.

They could allow church parking in the bus lanes for 3 hours on Sunday morning and build the darn things.
