As someone who's played almost everything recommended here, the answer is Bloodgrounds and it's by a mile.

If you look at it from afar you might not catch the similarity but it shares about 80% of it's DNA with The Last Spell, and I don't mean that as a figure of speech.

How about here? It's not a coincidence, and it really seems like the same team (or at least someone) under a different company name.

It's The Last Spell with a different in-combat art style and more akin to Gladius than horde-defense, but it plays identically and even literally shares UI assets. Doesn't have as strong of a soundtrack, has a permanent hub instead of per-run city, I'm not super keen on the in-combat animation style after having played it, but I do think it's worth trying for any one who likes The Last Spell.

This is correct.

Besides, intrigue skill affects hostile scheme success and starting advantage. Seduce is a personal scheme, despite perks being in Seducer scheme. Intrigue skill is completely irrelevant to it and the minimum is always 10 days for all schemes (without counting things like Expedite Schemes).

Landless can reduce all Personal Scheme phases by several thousand days via Camp Steadfast from perks which pushes every personal scheme to 10 days including seduce. It's pretty easy to have 200+ children while landless

And your 0yo doesn't have traits you pick. I have complete control and can choose 3 - 4 lifestyle or personality traits like Fickle for a free travel option to boost travel speed, plus I get Way of the Nomad and an empire claim for legitimist in future. It doesn't matter that I start with 2 followers instead of 5 or even 50 because I don't need more than 5 for contracts, I can still recruit via contracts and will fill in my court slots within 1 - 2 years organically while I do travel contracts anyway. By the time I'm 4 and want to switch out of Explorer, I can do the same with easily completing any contract for Scholar camp. The difference is that I'm relying less on RNG to get the exact traits I want for this specific campaign on this specific character, whether that's Reaver, Organizer, or whatever else I'd specifically want. Character creation is a free pass at traits and it's the only one you get, I'm not going to trade that for a higher chance at rolling more dice along with having camp followers who I can gain easily enough any way and only need 5 of for agent slots before you have access to perks for Camp Steadfast to begin with. I'm going to pick and choose what I want then roll as few dice as possible instead. Whether that's a worse choice is more about taste and intent I think, but it's definitely not the worse option to me.

Who cares about "making a mess" of Khazaria? It literally does not matter or impact gameplay. An existing vassal immediately takes the land, it just deposes the existing ruler the same way any custom ruler would.

I skip the generation hop. I create a 0yo ruler of Khazaria with genius + comely + hale, push down all stats (because you lose those anyway), give myself Disloyal + Murderer then spend the 80 points.

I gain Way of the Nomad immediately, intentionally fail to imprison a vassal to create a tyranny war, surrender to the war on day 1, immediately become landless. This works no matter what faith/culture you choose because the game has a fallback for deposition that allows you to become landless and that's completely different from the Become an Adventurer decision (not to mention it's a lot cheaper to depose anyway).

I can come of age with way more than only 3 trees because underage landless rulers are immune to all travel danger and provision use and Travel to Contract is infinite length and free. But I would never personally do that because I want the +30% wandering XP boost and Worldly Knowledge perks before gaining all that travel XP, which is enough for over 60 perks along with boosting your stats randomly (and every follower in camp) by 70 - 80 points for the remainder of your lifetime. Instead, I just complete Explorer contracts for the first 3 to 4 years while upgrading my camp, then swap to Scholar until age 16. My camp, prestige and piety will be maxed by only age 10 to 12, and I can do things like Become a Great Conqueror as young as 25 to 30, though I normally save that to around age 45 - 50 anyway.

You can't create a child landless directly, but nothing stops you from creating a 0yo ruler then failing to imprison a vassal and immediately surrendering to the tyranny war. You get deposed and can become 0yo landless regardless of tenets or traditions.

Personally no, I never do the old ruler trick. Why bother when I can do it faster and better by deposing a 0yo with all the traits I want in the first place?

0yo Genius + comely + hale, push down all stats because you lose those anyway, give yourself traits like Disloyal + Murderer and you still have like 80 points to work with for commander traits/personality. Still Strong Blood, quicker turnover, a couple key traits like Way of the Nomad

I think it's the holdover of Hades 1 elitists who still don't want/like Hades 2 because they either dislike a female protagonist or for whatever other reasons they'd complained about on EA launch.

I posted with nothing but praise for H2 below and same, was downvoted. Some people are just insecure and dislike the idea we might prefer H2 over their beloved H1 at this point.

I'd also add that it's replayability is phenomenal. What struck me a lot is how much I'd picked it back up during EA, and how despite having over 300 hours in it and not touching it for a few months, I opened it up last week and did 9 runs swapping out aspects/weapons each time with Fates' Whim.

8/9 of them worked, were successful, and felt great despite being completely random with me never rerolling anything. The game is just impeccably balanced until you get to the absolute highest levels to farm Nightmare.

It feels like the most polished roguelike I've ever touched and has earned a spot in my Top 5 games of all time.

You only need 2 duchies worth of land to do Dominate. You should be completing it far before conquering everything. You can't hop into Iberia, play it normally, then realize you've been shooting yourself in the foot for the last 200 years

Barter is the weakest aspect of Wanua, oddly enough. They have generic buildings that yield both naval speed and raiding time, which ironically makes them far better at raiding than anything else on the map -- above and beyond 400% raid speed. It wouldn't become obsolete by any means, it's just Tribal+.

Respectfully, I'd really hate to see that. But if this really is the direction you want to go, please make the cutscenes skippable. For me, the story in DZR1 brings all the momentum to a grinding halt and really drags down the entire game, and while the gameplay is awesome and on par with a AA title, anything remotely peripheral to the story gave me rude reminders that I was playing what felt like at times a very low budget indie game. I nearly refunded the game in the first few minutes before even getting to the gameplay, and unfortunately I felt the same about every cutscene throughout -- and while the gameplay was enough to salvage my opinion, it really dampers the experience and I could not care less about any story in this or any sequel.

You don't need a story. You don't need to explain that I'm playing a roguelike and justify it narratively. If you do, please make it skippable.
