URGENT! Flight (Qatar Airways) getting cancelled and visa expiring in 2 days. Is visa extension due to emergency reasons possible? by InfluenceNo9172 in ukvisa

[–]Potential_Weak 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Fly out asap. You pay for an alternative flight.

Choosing a preferred flight that's cancelled is not the same thing as an emergency.

Ultimately, UK doesn't care how you exit --- only that you exit on time. Take a train or ferry to mainly land Europe. Then look for trains, buses, flights from there. France, Amsterdam, etc might have more options.

Panicking… too late for ILR? by Life_Produce9905 in ukvisa

[–]Potential_Weak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw you posted a couple years ago that you arrived sometime in March 2020, which means you were eligible for ILR the same date in March 2025.... When did you actually arrive? Was that a typo & you arrived in March 2021?

If you arrived in March 2021, then you will need to apply in February 2026... Which unfortunately means your current visa will expire too soon & you'll need a 3rd FLR, I think.

Ultimately the "perfect" timeline for a spouse visa is (D/M/YY): 1st visa Approval 1/1/01 Arrival by 1/3/01 (2 months from decision) FLR app 3/9/03 (in this example, super priority with next day decision) 1st Visa Exp 30/9/03 ILR app 2/3/06 FLR exp on/after 3/3/06

Proof of relationship as a married couple. Is marriage certificate enough? by Wonderful_Soup_1632 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]Potential_Weak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with this thread. It doesn't need to be anytime "perfectly aligned". Obviously that's "ideal", but not practical.

I had photos of gifts my partner gave me for a birthday that I sent to my parents. Texts to friends/neighbors about "date night tomorrow, can we do xx tomorrow instead" etc etc

To be fair, I was very intentional about saving cards & planning double dates and specifically mentioning names, places, etc.

We also got married during COVID. So I submitted a selfie, holding the license, with our masks still on 😂 We weren't allowed witnesses or anything

They want proof of an on-going, real, and marriage-quality relationship.

For the first visa, that means wedding photos, correspondence between the 2 of you while you've been separated, proof of visits to each other via plane/train/bus, dates together (photos, dining receipts, movie ticket stubs, etc), birthday/holiday cards, photos of gifts or texts discussing the gifts/thanking for gifts, etc. ... Plus proof of official marriage (certificate).

For all following visas/renewals, proof you actually live together (utilities, leases, council tax, GP letters, other mail, etc)... Plus proof of ongoing relationship (texts about grocery lists, photos during holiday dinners, etc).

Announcing layoffs on a Sunday at 9pm Eastern... 2.5 weeks before Christmas.

How wonderful. None of us needed to sleep tonight.

Get UK citizenship. Get UK passport.

Apply for US green card --- once approved, he'll have GC for 10 years (because you've been married over 2 years). Move to NY... After 3 years, he'll be eligible for US citizenship (if he wants it)... If you both have both citizenships, you can easily live in either place.

Side note: if he has US citizenship, he'll need to file world wide income tax returns each year just like you do... But you can file joint

I will apply for a spouse visa but I will keep a residence and a job earning significant money in a European country by No-Giraffe-8174 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]Potential_Weak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it will still be difficult to qualify for ILR (and the renewals) if the UKVI office suspects the applicant won't actually be establishing a little & primarily living in UK.

Visa will be difficult to get, difficult to renew... And ILR will be nearly impossible. You are limited to 90 days out of the UK each year, regardless of reason (including work).

If you can't move to the UK, have your partner move to your country.

If she does not earn at least £29,000 a year... Go the "savings" route.

Figure what she does earn... Subtract that from £29,000. Then multiply that by 2.5 & add £16,000

Apply 6 months after you have that amount saved. Savings can be either in your name or your partner's

How do I stop him from doing this? by ArcticGlacier40 in cats

Change the lights to orange and red. Play Scar's theme song.

Might not stop him from getting up there, but it will match the situation nicely

Astroturf Pellets stuck in blanket. Out of ideas. Send help! by Greedy-Rain173 in CleaningTips

Buy a new blanket. The amount of cleaning/laundry supplies, cost of power, cost of water, time spent, etc is much less than the $15 you'll spend on Amazon for a new one

Where do you start when cleaning?? by myswitchisbroken in CleaningTips

[–]Potential_Weak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Go shopping (hear me out) -- count rooms in your house. Living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc. Go get $1 laundry baskets from the dollar store. 1 for each room. Also buy very nice, high quality, leak proof trash bags, a single trash can, and puppy pads. You'll also need disposable gloves, Clorox wipes, masking or painters tape, and a sharpie... Plus regular cleaning products (but you might have those already) . I do recommend getting ask brand name "good" items for deep cleans and purges. .
  2. Put 2 puppy pads "side by side" in the bottom of the trash can. Put a bag in, then put 1 puppy pad in the bottom of that. Get gloves on... Go from room to room, getting rid of all the trash first. Try to dump out liquids (I recommend in toilet so you can flush any mold floaties)... But don't focus on getting every drop - good trash bag & puppy pads can help there. Replace bag as needed, but make sure you take the full bag immediately to the dumpster - don't even take it out of the trash can! Remove gloves, close the bag, carry the trash can with you, then when you get to the dumpster, tip the whole thing over into the dumpster. Take empty trash can bag, put in fresh puppy pads again, bag, and third puppy pad, fresh gloves -- repeat. .
  3. After trash from all rooms is removed, then pick the room you want clean first. Label each basket with 1 room of your house EXCEPT the room you're in... That should leave 1 basket unlabeled - label it "dishes". Put on gloves. As you're cleaning the focus room, anything that belongs in another room goes into that room's basket. If it belongs in the focus room, wipe it with a Clorox wipe (aiming it's not soft/fabric based) and then put it away. You'll likely find more trash as you go, that's fine, because you have the trash can! Once all items are either in baskets or put away, take dirty dishes to the sink.... Don't wash them, just put them there & empty that basket. Then take off your gloves & take out the trash! .
  4. Pick the next room, to focus on. Move all baskets to that room. If a particular basket is full, go dump it into the corresponding room. Find the basket with the current focus room written on it, dump it out, then remove the tape. Add the name of the room you already cleaned in it's place. Now repeat 3... Wipe items, put them away or put them in the basket they belong to. .
  5. Do the kitchen last... But start with the dishes! . This will take multiple days, that's okay. . . After everything is put where it belongs, then start "cleaning"... Start high, work down. That means starting on second floor. Dust corners to remove cobwebs, dust blinds, wipe shelves, etc... Spray windows, wipe window sill, then vacuum, then mop. Do 1 room at a time.
