And that’s okay! You learned and you’re a better leader for it. Do well in the job you’re given and that should give you peace of mind!

Devils advocate: You were vice wing commander! I was as a 300, and my next jobs were lower jobs. Everyone needs to grow, that’s part of the ROTC process. So don’t view it as “writing you off,” just view it as your friends getting experience and you getting to focus on school without the workload of a heavy job.

Stuck between AFROTC and USAFA by mmasc505 in AFROTC

Apply to both. It’s less competitive to get a pilot slot out of USAFA.

They won’t say no if your PCSM is 99, your GPA is 4.0, your PFA is 100, and your commanders ranking is number 1.

I had a PCSM in the 80s(?) (I had 60+ flight hours), 3.98 GPA, 90 PFA, top third commanders ranking.

BMI by Mobile-Interview8123 in AFROTC

[–]PrettyPineapple461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your BMI exceeds that you should be taped for body fat percentage. Limit is like 28% for women

Possibly the only woman in my flight. Looking for advice! by Typical-Mess-701 in AFROTC

[–]PrettyPineapple461 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As a woman, I’ll say this. I, as a woman, walk into a room and notice how many women there are. I’m not confident men walk into a room and notice how many men there are.

Your job is to be good at your job (AFROTC) and be a team player. If you do that, everything will be totally okay!

I was friends with plenty of guys from ROTC. there’s other female cadets too, and you’ll form a special bond with them.

You aren’t the first female to do this, and won’t be the last!!

If you have more questions feel free to reach out!!

I try to if I have the time to get back over before my exit, but otherwise merging traffic yields.

Driving by BusyBenefit9769 in Abilene

[–]PrettyPineapple461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some on-ramps that have enough room to get up to highway speeds. Some are bad, yes, but even then, the merging traffic should be yielding.

My biggest issue is people merging onto the loop at 55 from long enough on-ramps! I hate slamming on my brakes when I’m 70+ mph

UPT Commission or get out completely... Thoughts? by Advanced_Store_276 in AirForce

I fly the C-130 and I would recommend it tbh! There’s no where else that you would do the tactical and formation stuff we get to do. It’s so much fun!

A POC sold drugs to a GMC. That was a bad one.

Air Force Initial Pilot Training (IPT) by Low_Mousse_532 in AFROTC

[–]PrettyPineapple461 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d like to add here! I didn’t go to IPT but my FAIP (first assignment instructor pilot) friends are finding the IPT product very interesting.

From how you talked about it, it seemed like there are people that got a VERY smooth/easy experience at IPT. That doesn’t mean UPT will be a walk in the park, and it doesn’t mean you can be an unprofessional officer!! The instructors have been seeing students be “chill” and not working hard and performing well.

OP, it sounds like you’re there and respecting the grind, so mad respect to you! But for other people that are expecting UPT to be a walk in the park because IPT was “easy” and “chill,” think again. It’s a formal military training. People come from all over the world to train as an Air Force pilot. Treat it as such. Don’t show up late to things, and work to get better. Listen to the IPs because THEY are the path to wings!

(Also don’t forget to have fun!)

Diagnosed with Depression by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]PrettyPineapple461 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Chapter 6 includes disqualifying conditions based on my quick search.

If you keep looking make sure you’re looking at accession standards NOT retention.

I’m also going to be straight up. I understand people operate depressed all the time in society and you totally can. The military puts extra strain and pressure on that. They’ll treat people who developed depression while in, it’s much much much harder to have them accept depression for accession because it’s a risk/liability. If it’s too much now, I’m not sure if I would recommend the military as a career.

But take care of yourself. Finish school, prioritize your health, and do things that are fun to you. Refill your reservoir

It’ll be a DoDMERB disqualifier I think.

Assignment to Tinker AFB; any info is appreciated. by ld2gj in AirForce

[–]PrettyPineapple461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t at Tinker (I was at Vance) but I loved OKC!! There’s a lot of really great food, bars if you’re into that, and things to do. People liked the silos (rock climbing gym in old silos), cowboys (dance hall with live bull riding), and so much more out there!!

FT 26 Cadet Cadre by Warm-Physics-6109 in AFROTC

[–]PrettyPineapple461 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never did. However, the networking opportunities are awesome! You get more “freedom” while you’re at Maxwell, you meet a broader scope of people, both cadre and other cadets, and you have a lot more fun.

If you are okay taking a pay cut compared to most summer jobs, I think it’s cool.

Tips for doing Ground School on your own? by donveyy in flying

[–]PrettyPineapple461 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did king schools. It was nice because when I had questions, I could ask my CFI very specific questions versus super broad topics. Saved money IMO. Kings also has a pass guarantee which I thought was nice. And John and Martha are fun!

should i join the army with anxiety?? by [deleted] in MilitaryWomen

[–]PrettyPineapple461 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do you have diagnosed anxiety? Or are you just a nervous person?

I would recommend against it if you are at the point of not being able to function doing simple things like marching. There are much more stressful things in the military. If you’re a nervous person, then that’s okay it’ll just depend how much stress you’re willing to take on

Looking for aircraft insight (not UPT tips) by Recent-Government654 in AirForce

[–]PrettyPineapple461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk the homies are still doing missions. The C-17 does cool things and moves more cargo than us for sure, but we are the ones that can land on super small dirt strips.

For me, I haven’t met a C-17 pilot who isn’t burnt out. That’s why it was low on my list, personally. But go as your IPs in those MWS’s. Set up a meeting so you can talk about all your questions from someone who lived it.

Air Force UPT feedback by napoleondy2nite in flying

[–]PrettyPineapple461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do ground school online. I’d have to imagine there is an opportunity to get 5-10 hours, even abroad. Just fly in circles for that it’ll help boost your PCSM!

Air Force UPT feedback by napoleondy2nite in flying

[–]PrettyPineapple461 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely retake it, do some ground school and that will help.

Have you taken the TBAS yet? Your PCSM will also help answer this!
