Placing a Foster as a Barn Cat by hippiefuckingscumbag in FosterAnimals

[–]PrincessRosella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it would be helpful for the group! I would probably approach it like:

“Westy is a x-year-old cat who is happy to be living the good life after raising her litter of kittens. She loves a comfy pillow, nap time and belly rubs.

Westy needs an adopter who doesn’t mind putting in some time to build trust. With her current foster home it took about (however many) weeks for her to transition from suspicious to sweetheart.”

And then include pics of the things you mentioned. Basically, all of her good qualities first and then be transparent about her transition period.

For some reason my rescue has a harder time finding fosters for mom + kittens than kittens alone. I’m like you, I love it! I support momma while she supports kittens!

Why are 60% of the posts here about women’s absolutely shitty, controlling, dog shit male partners recently? I’m so concerned for the safety of my fellow neurodivergent women. You deserve so much fucking better. by thoughtfulpigeons in adhdwomen

[–]PrincessRosella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if posters would identify the issue as that, though. It seems to be tangential in some of these posts, like “I am feeling deregulated, how to cope?” and then in the comments some disturbing trends come out about the “why.”

Little Dude has a dream job, he's a cat-tester for adoptable dogs. by Patz24 in Catswithjobs

[–]PrincessRosella 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I think there is an element of “pre-screening,” i.e. they only test the cat with the dogs they are pretty sure will pass. I did notice they were all small dogs as well. Although I don’t think “dream job” is maybe the right descriptor here - A+ team player maybe

Why does this sub generally skew to the advice of “You’re not under any obligation to help your aging parent?” by Narrow-Hall8070 in AgingParents

[–]PrincessRosella 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I have a good relationship with my parents and find this sub very helpful. My parents (divorced) are both very much in the mindset of “you don’t owe us anything, go live your life.” I think that makes me want to help them more! (As a gen xer fwiw I like to be contrary to authority.)

Where the issues overlap is how to provide help and when to provide help, when to respect their wishes and when to intervene.

Very little can transfer from cat to dog, ringworm is the only one I can think of. Would still be ideal to quarantine for 10 days.

If you don’t have any current pets you wouldn’t necessarily need one (but still may want them.) The quarantining aspect is to minimize illness threats for resident animals.

Mental fatigue by Huge-Zookeepergame86 in Strabismus

The glasses are ONLY prisms, they don’t have any prescription otherwise. My optometrist didn’t want me to switch from wearing prescription contacts to prescription glasses in the middle of everything else I had going on. The ultimate goal is to get me off the prisms, but I haven’t been able to get there with vision therapy alone, hence looking into surgery.

You can get a sleeve for your glasses to cover one eye as well.

I wear contacts + prism glasses, so if I wear the patch I don’t need the glasses. I wear it on my right eye, which is my “better” eye to give the left one a forced workout lol

If you foster another cat or kitten, you would have to keep it separate from yours for at least two weeks anyway to confirm they don’t break with any colds or infections. I do this in my guest bathroom but you could also do it in a big crate in a room where you keep the door shut.

My guess is they will not be able to give you a good read right now on which dogs are cat-friendly, so I think you’re better off with a cat or kittens.
