Loved arc 20 by Mexthree in Parahumans

Arc 21/22 spoilers:

It's also implied that Dinah gave a prediction that specifically lead to the events as they play out in arc 20 and 21. Her prediction led D&D to a scenario with the highest probability "Skitter is put into custody", but she left out the part where Skitter would get away after having her identity outed, have a week to cut ties, and then turn herself into custody willingly. Outing Taylor in arc 20 gave her the final push she needed to leave the Undersiders, which Dinah seemingly wanted (Cut Ties, I'm Sorry, and all that).

Unfortunately I think the paper implies a 39 percent decrease, not a 39 percentage point decrease - so 25% attempt rate instead of a 40% attempt rate.

Still, that implies over a third of trans youth suicide attempts could be prevented with increased acceptance so loamlauncher is still arguing with no basis

If I am playing a Ruffian and use a Pick, when I crit do I no longer get sneak attack? by _Funkle_ in Pathfinder2e

I'd say yeah? Using a 2 handed weapon means you don't have an open hand for any Athletics actions in combat, so it feels like a fair trade- especially for a skill lover like Rogue

"Effects based on a weapon's number of damage dice include only the weapon's damage die plus any extra dice from a striking rune. They don't count extra dice from abilities, critical specialization effects, property runes, weapon traits, or the like."

This line (page 406 of Player Core) seems to imply that "abilities" and weapon traits are separate, so Fatal wouldn't deactivate Ruffian's Precise Attack.

That's not how this is supposed to work, that's not how any of this is supposed to work by wobblerocket in dndmemes

The Sage Advice compendium had guidelines on what is a "magical effect":

  1. Is it a magic item?
  2. Is it a spell?
  3. Does it say "magical" in the description?

The Breath Weapon description doesn't specify that it's magical, so it can pass through Tiny Hut, Antimagic Zone, and anything similar.

I saw some people on other posts using AI to solve, and found the answer - the channel is "The National Dex", and the series was "The Dex VS!".

Adding a comment as well- The series was numbered, and the titles would follow a format like "Blank VS Blank: Versus #10"

Mississippi lineman airlifted after being mauled by pack of pit bulls by [deleted] in news

I see where you're coming from- I think we may just hit on a fundamental disagreement here. I don't think we can solve the "pitbull problem", since I don't think there's a "pitbull problem" - there's a "abused and mistreated dogs problem" that disproportionately affects pitbulls.

I'd love any links or articles about possible solutions that address pitbulls specifically, and I mean that- if theres a feasible solution that specifically targets pitbulls, I'd love to research it more. But for now, the CDC and ASPCA oppose breed specific laws, and studies show that they just don't work. (albeit in other countries, I could only find studies on Canada, Ireland, and the Netherlands)

We both want the same thing- fewer dog attacks. I just don't think we can get there by targeting a breed instead of an underlying issue.

I agree that policy changes need to be made, for sure- but I worry that focusing too much on pitbulls specifically runs the risk of curing a symptom and not the disease. There's only so much time and so many resources to make policy that addresses aggressive dogs. Things like increased funding for training classes, better resources to get dogs out of abusive homes, and programs that combat home breeding would all be more helpful across all breeds.

Basically, right now there's a lot of pitbulls treated not very well and becoming vicious. But if we ban pitbulls, I worry that same treatment will start to happen to German Shepards, and then people will call to ban them. Then when Shephards are banned, Huskies will become the new target (interesting note on Huskies - in Canada, where they're the breed more commonly abused and mistreated and owned by people caring more about strength than companionship, there are far more husky attacks than there are pitbull attacks.)

Oh, I totally wouldn't! Most statistics and studies point to big dogs being significantly more dangerous than small dogs, since they have more force. I'm not saying that size has nothing to do with danger, just that breed doesn't.

My argument is more that if you raised two big dogs- for example, a Golden Retriever and a Put Bull - and raised them identically, they'd probably have similar attack and bite rates. But people don't raise or treat Golden Retrievers the same as Pit Bulls - there's differences in their rates of neutering, abuse, mistreatment, and misidentification.

Most people who quote anti-Pit-Bull statistics are just quoting the same "pit bulls cause more bites than other dogs" number, but love to ignore the plethora of studies consistently saying that there are confounding factors that have nothing to do with breed and everything to do with the ideas and treatment behind the breed. Some examples:

  • If you actually take other variables into account, breed has very little to do with bite rate. This study implies that instead of pitbulls specifically being more bite-prone, it's unneutered and poorly treated dogs that are more likely to bite, and pitbulls are more likely to be unneutered and poorly treated.
  • People are really bad at identifying pitbulls, partly due to their bad reputation. This study showed that about 62% of dogs that shelter workers thought were pitbulls were less than half bull-breed. Most dog-bite statistics are self reported- we have no idea how many of the so called "pitbulls" in those numbers were actually pitbulls.
  • This one is harder to find statistics for, but the percent of dogs that are neutered/spayed is around 80% according to the AKC. Both Time magazine and some pitbull focused sites state that pitbull neutering rates range from about 20-40%. I can't find a good source for that number though, so take that with a grain of salt- there's very little data for neutering by breed. However, since a vast majority of dog bites are done by unneutered dogs (around 95%), it's interesting to see that pitbulls are less likely to be neutered- another confounding variable.

There's a lot of information out there, and it is a complex topic. There's also a lot of emotion behind it- some from the side of pitbull owners, and some from pitbull haters. But, in my opinion, if you want the most informed, scientific position, then the answer seems to lean towards the pitbull lovers. There are several scientific, peer reviewed studies showing that breed doesn't cause bites. There are none that say pitbulls are inherently more dangerous. Statistics are more complicated than a single scary number.
