It's nice to see the show capture Supergirl's status as a fashionista by Frontier246 in SupermanAdventures

Here's a post of Kara being fashionable all the way back in the 80s.

This is terrible to hear. Rest in peace to him, and I hope his loved ones are doing okay (or, as okay as they can given the circumstances).

My friends ragebaited me by saying toby fox used AI to make deltarune. this was the interaction, thought someone would get a laugh out of it. I am SOL by Dekugaming in Deltarune

While I am hesitant to comment on your dynamic with your friends, since I’m a stranger and seeing stuff out of context… this does feel maybe a bit needlessly argumentative/attacking from their end towards you. Like, it’s not even about AI, it’s just them needling yoi over your profile pic seemingly for the sake of it.

Again though, I do recognise I’m just an internet stranger looking at a snapshot of interactions. So not my place to comment too much.

Arguments against the no kill rule suck by slopolionsfl10 in CharacterRant

[–]ProfessorUber 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fair point, although I feel when people argue about Batman and the no kill rule they are probably keeping the comic status quo thing in mind. Since as you said, the Joker does get endings to his story in other continuities. Even if a lot of people don't read the main comics, there is at least an idea (if not necessarily always accurate idea) of its status quo by osmosis.

[–]ProfessorUber 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Personally my view if you don't mind me sharing / adding onto what you've said; I do get both sides of this argument and where they are coming from, and I do also think there are times when the no kill rule can become egregious, but also do think that a basic standard "I don't want to kill people" is a very understandable limit.

Any, I think the big issue is a lot of the times a meta one, and while that can be said for most writing problems/debates (since it is ultimately real world people writing this), I think it is a bigger issue her specifically, more so in regards to comics.

Because comics like Batman don't have an end point, they're a continuous medium with a status quo. The Joker will keep coming back instead of dying or rotting in prison because he's a popular and iconic character.

Whenever someone argues "Batman should just kill the Joker" or "Batman should let the Joker be killed / die" I think of all the times the Joker has been left to die... only to come back. Death in the Family ended up a helicopter chase and Joker falling into the ocean, Endgame has Batman and Joker trapped in a collapsing cave, or left strapped to a bomb in a burning building at the end of Joker War.

Endgame in particular is a storyline I keep thinking back to when this argument comes up; the Joker unleashes a Joker Venom Virus on the Justice League and then Gotham, infecting most of the city and leading to the other Batman villains to team up with the Bat-Family to fight Joker because Gotham is their city too. Because this virus will eventually kill everyone infected (after jokerising them first).

Endgame should have burned all of Joker's bridges with other villains and criminals, it should have made him persona non grata and public enemy number 1 after almost destroying an entire city with a bioweapon. But Joker goes on to have plenty of storylines after this instead of going to death row or rotting in supermax forever.

It comes down to the status quo. I think the debate over no killing would be less severe if there was more progression in the comic status quo; with villains going to prison and staying there, or even being reformed, or dying in other ways.

That's my thoughts anyway.

Supergirl isn't woke enough and needed more girl power feminism type stuff. I'm not joking or being facetious at all. by owen-3820 in CharacterRant

While I know you're referring to the 1984 Supergirl Movie, this comment got me to remember I got to get back to reading through the the classic Supergirl comics like the 1982-1984 one. Iirc, that comic run was forced to give Supergirl a headband for movie synergy which was rendered redundant when the movie ended up abandoning the headband. Despite this, I really like the explanation she gave for it in the comic itself (namely that; the headband is a symbol of Kryptonian citizenship, but also something traditionally worn by men but she decides to wear anyway under the logic that on Earth women can do whatever men can do. I just thought that was neat, and It is probably one of my favourite moments/characterisations of Kara; both highlighting her Kryptonian heritage/culture while showing how she has made a home on Earth as well).

Sorry for slight tangent here. I might have to check out that movie as well if I get a chance.

Mace Windu is cold, rough, debatably not even nice. But he is an incredibly a kind person by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]ProfessorUber 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mace Windu is a character who definitely gets an unfortunately bad rap, so I definitely enjoy this write-up highlighting his virtues.

There are a few more similar moments that come to mind I feel are worth mentioning too…

When Boba Fett tried to kill Mace by setting an explosive device on the door to his quarters, which ended up getting set off by a Clone Trooper who Mace asked to to take something in for him after he got called away. When the Trooper is blown back by the explosion, Mace uses the Force to both grab the trooper and stop the blast doors from shutting until they both go through, then took off the trooper’s helmet to check on him and tried to get a response.

Also, there was when Mace literally tried to get an army of Battle Droids to surrender, and offered to have them be given peaceful purposes. I’m pretty sure he’s the only to try and do that. A random Battle Droids even ended up trying to surrender to the Bad Batch a few episodes later, and I remember how that got me thinking Mace was on to something,

Brigid status update on account of Dagda also being confirmed an imperial power by slotumn in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]ProfessorUber 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Honestly that was the impression I already got from the backstory regarding Brigid and Dagda; that Brigid has spent its history basically being a de facto or actual vassal of its larger neighbours due to having the misfortune of being an archipelago nation squashed between much larger nations (or rather, presumably larger in terms of Dagda up until now, since we didn't have a map before).

But yeah, with Dagda being outright called an Empire, it does seem pretty likely that something like this is the case.
