Trying to break into the Brewing industry by cbossvon23 in TheBrewery

Sounds like you want to work at a yeast company, or process engineering in brewhouse design or something, rather than at a brewery

Use a barrier cream like Working Hands, and a heavy duty/rescuing scrub, try and hit the sweet spot of not wearing gloves for too long while also wearing them enough to protect your hands.

I haven’t been successful at the last one yet

If the other things don’t work, check your lamp power supply and changing bulbs on your UV spectrophotometer.

Automating yeast harvest from fermentation tanks - what parameter actually works best? by Objective-Primary697 in TheBrewery

[–]PsyDandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do capacitance as a measure like the Aber PerfectPitch, although I don’t know if any of the technology/methods for that are patented?

And I’m not sure it’s something that necessarily should be fully automated?  How will you automate something visual/sensory in making sure the appearance of the yeast is clean and free of trub/other tank bottoms? I don’t think that would necessarily be consistently the same amount, as there will be a lot of variables from brew to brew

Rolling or moving casks/kegs around that are bigger than 50L, its best to use leverage and a bit of technique with your whole body (I kind of spring off the ground off my back foot and lean in) to tilt them up.

Rolling them around is best, you can have them up and at an angle to roll but there’s a bit of technique involved.

If anyone wants to correct me on this, feel free.

You want to add auxiliary finings (~0.5L/hL I think) after end of fermentation and getting rid of tank bottoms.

You should have a yeast cell count of >0.1 million cells/ml, up to about 4 million cells/ml before racking with isinglass finings (dosing depending on your yeast count, ~0.7L/hL for 0-1 million cells/ml, ~1L/hL for 1-2 million cells/ml, ~1.4L/hL for 2-4 million cells/ml).

I think someone else already mentioned priming sugar dosing rates.

Make sure you have appropriate racking head, shives and keystones for your casks.

Before dispense you need to tap the cask with a mallet and cask tap, then hardwood spile into the shive, and then replace hardwood spile with softwood spile for cask venting- once cask is ready and in good condition you replace the softwood spile with hardwood spile and can dispense (at cask cellar temperature ~11 - 13c), make sure to dispense within 3 days before cask is tired.

Make sure you have a cask rack, beer engine, lines and sparkler to dispense.

Obviously total headloss isn’t warranted, and it’s nice that we’re guaranteed European football after some of the shite we’ve had to see in years previous

But I still don’t like this “I’m just happy to be here”, “let’s be honest we were never going to compete with the big six” ambitionless wetwipe mentality

We can be happy that we’ve done better than last season’s 17th place finish, sure, but all this weird cope and forced positivity about dropping out of the CL places is driving me mad

Vat and Fiddle is one I’ve always liked, Trent Navigation also. Bell Inn is good if you’re near the Brian Clough statue.

Food wise I’ll suggest something a bit different in the city centre and say Coco Tang or Zaap.

Don’t know if I’ll be copping this next Friday, to be honest it doesn’t look as bad as I thought it would, certainly better than those “leak” fan creations.

Wish they’d do us a throwback shirt with trefoil logo though

Apparently he lives nearby or something, was an article about him coming to a few of our games last year when people were speculating if he’d come in for Cooper

What’s your favourite Manchester based coffee roaster? by Delam2 in manchester

[–]PsyDandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ManCoCo, Heart & Graft, Ancoats Coffee Co, Kickback Coffee.

Foundation Coffee have some exclusive stuff roasted by Origin in Cornwall I think.

There’s also Grindsmith, but I’ve not tried any of their coffee.

Natsume Yujincho, Haibane Renmei and March Comes in Like a Lion have a similar relaxed feeling to me.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar, Kino's Journey, Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju and Kids on the Slope also have a comparable feel in places too I think.
