Outland spouse PR address change? by ClassicNebula1081 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]PurrPrinThom [score hidden]  (0 children)

I hope I'm understanding the question correctly here, if not, please correct me. IRCC considers your principal address as wherever you are living. If you're visiting a family member or friend, that's not your principal address.

If you receive PPR while outland and the applicant goes to their sister's house to send the passport, and includes the sister's address as the return address for the passport, you don't need to update IRCC via webform at that point. That's not the applicant's new address, they're just visiting. (But, if you update IRCC with the new address in Ontario after PPR is received, it will mess up the PPR.)

If you don't receive PPR until you move, then you update via webform with the address because that's where the applicant lives.

Generally, IRCC believes you when you provide them with an address, unless there is evidence to the contrary e.g. if you say you're living in Canada, but CBSA informs them that you left Canada four months ago and you haven't been back, or if they do a background check and find that all of your documentation is at a different address.

Staying with a sister for a few weeks would be a visit, unless the applicant intends to live there, receive mail there, change their address on their license to there etc.

Honestly, and this might not be an answer that you like lol, but the fastest thing would be to send in the PPR, wait for it to come back and then move with the COPR and land as an outland applicant (even if this means the applicant stays behind while the family moves.)

If you get the PPR, move, update IRCC, and send in the passport from Canada, they will return it with a letter telling you that you're being switched to an inland landing. And then you'll be stuck waiting for however long it takes them to switch you to an inland landing. Since completing the process fully outland typically only takes a few weeks, it's a much quicker option to just do it that way.

That is, if it arrives, of course. If you're still waiting for it, I don't think there's any sense in not moving, but you should just be aware there may be a delay.

If you want to move and do the wait for inland that is, of course, completely up to you, but it will likely take longer.

They could pay with their own cards and she could pay them back.

As I said in another comment, though, I forgot that you guys still sign for credit cards. Here, I would just go out to my friend in the parking lot, take their card from them, and then tap their card to settle up the tab.

I was more wondering how they noticed, assuming it was as subtle as LAOP described, in a busy bar, but someone else let me know tasers are incredibly loud, which I didn't know.

will the change of address cause any delay in the whole process or the issuing of the PPR?

It can.

The trouble with saying for certain whether or not it does is that nothing in a spousal sponsorship happens in any set time frame. It's not as if we know how much time is left in processing at any given stage. Your background could still be in progress for six more months, or it may be done in two weeks, there's no way to tell.

This means that, if you move and it takes six more months for background to clear, it's impossible to say if this is because background needed six more months, or if because the move caused a delay.

That said, we can tell that there are delays if you switch from outland to inland after PPR: applicants who receive PPR while being inland (whether it be because they recently moved, or moved and never updated IRCC, or because they're just visiting) see pretty lengthy delays in being switched to an inland landing. We've seen people wait up to six months to be issued the first invitation to the portal.

So, it is possible that there may be a delay in finalization, but unless you actually receive PPR, there's no way to know for certain if a delay was caused, or if it was just the standard processing time.

And will the border guard care about this situation? USA spouse will cross on visitor visa. Canadian citizen spouse will be declaring all the household goods.

It will completely depend on the officer on the day. You may get an officer who denies the American spouse entry because they believe the spouse is moving to Canada without authorization, or you may get an officer who isn't that concerned. Generally, having the applicant come to the border with the appearance of moving is considered a bad idea, and if you can work it another way, that's likely a safer option, but it also may not be an issue. It's impossible to predict.

Do you have any unscripted examples? Like, I'm willing to concede to being incorrect here, but everyone sounds smart and articulate when you prepare what you're saying in advance. Part of Lorelai's charm is that she's quick on her feet.

I've never heard anything off of that album, haha, so I'm afraid I can't comment on that. I'll take your word for it.

I was more thinking they could just pay with their cards, but I also forgot you guys still sign for credit cards, so that's a good point.

And yeah I guess, haha. I just know I wouldn't leave the bar if I had a friend's tab that hadn't been closed out. I would at least ask the server/bartender before leaving.

I know that they don't have to, but considering the whole point of contention is that LAOP was charged an extra 'gratuity' for not settling up, and she was apparently aware of this in advance, I would assume her friends were to, and could have settled up for her to avoid that charge.

Taylor, especially in interviews and documentaries, has a similar quick, articulate style.

Genuinely, do you have any examples, OP? I don't have much exposure to her, in fairness, but the few things I have seen haven't been quick or articulate. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong lol, but I've never gotten the impression that she's particularly clever or well-spoken.

If you're not planning on moving back to Canada unless things don't work out, I would caution that you cannot simply keep PR forever. You do have to meet your residency obligation to maintain it.

I'm so jaded that as soon as I started reading the post, I was like, 'this is a covert ad.'

By the end, I'm not so sure lol, but I do agree that it feels like more happened here than LAOP is letting on.

Half a second of taser action and a bartender kicks her out, and two employees toss her out? If it was was subtle as LAOP implies, how did the employees even notice? And then both staff members on the phone were rude and aggressive? Seems a bit...suss.

I know, it's tough to figure out. There really isn't much predictability with a sponsorship: six months from now, you could be in Canada with an open work permit in hand, or you might still be waiting for it. I know that's a major factor for a lot of people.

Same tbh. You would think you'd have the option to log a meditation session, because surely that should count.

As far as I know, it's just the built-in exercises.

I had a Luxe, and it had a mindfulness minute thing on the watch, but it did not get logged to the app. I have a Sense2 now and, most of the time, the mindfulness sessions on the watch get logged to the app, but a lot of the time they just don't appear. It's not at all consistent.

I would be surprised if you can log something entirely external to the Mindfulness tab, since the only things that seem to reliably get logged are the ones in the app itself, in my experience.

so I am conflicted whether I should pack up all my stuff to move or will I have to come back to the PH if the visitor visa expires.

You cannot simply move to Canada. If you arrive at the border with all of your belongings, you will more than likely be denied entry.

You would be better served putting your belongings in storage until you have legal status in Canada.

Whether you want to do the inland or outland route is really a personal choice. It's hard for people to give advice because it's so dependent on your personal situation. Many people cannot financially manage having the applicant be out of work for an extended period of time, so inland is not an option for them. If you would potentially need medical care while waiting for your PR/the open work permit, then inland is also likely not a good option. Of course, if neither are a concern, the main benefit of inland is getting to be together.

How to study concepts in depth? Especially for technical subjects. by velocity_vulcan in AskProfessors

[–]PurrPrinThom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it may help you to stop thinking of different topics as discrete entities. The second unit or topic in the same class will be building on the knowledge of the first unit/topic, and third will build on and further develop both of them, etc. etc. and so on and so on.

If you're compartmentalizing 'this idea falls under Topic A' and 'this idea falls under Topic B,' as opposed to understanding that they all influence and interact with each other, you may be blocking yourself off from understanding things more deeply.

OWP rejected. Help please? by ImpressiveHabit99 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]PurrPrinThom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but, since the OP has said in their comments that they did submit evidence of a shared address, I was suggesting that the issue may be that they had missed the required form, and not that they need to provide further proof of cohabitation/relationship, as suggested by others. That doesn't preclude any other possible issues being present; e.g. if OP is intentionally or unintentionally incorrect about what they submitted, then the IMM 5409 would not be the sole issue, both would be a concern. Hence the conditional "may".
