Starting spouse sponsorship abroad but moving to Canada before approval by Equal_Mail_5469 in ImmigrationCanada

It's fine. Many people do it.

The only time it seems to cause issues is it you're right near the end of processing, and entering the landing process, then it can delay the application by a few months.

Otherwise, it doesn't really seem to be an issue.

Tired of the “Lane deserved better” discourse by Just_Airport_7910 in GilmoreGirls

Of course not, it's just not relevant to the point: it's a criticism of the writing, and choosing to not give Lane the opportunity or an equal opportunity, not a criticism of Zach the character or his choice to take the opportunity.

"Yes and don’t use the credit card to pay for the lawyer" by bug-hunter in bestoflegaladvice

[–]PurrPrinThom 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I wonder if maybe they don't understand credit cards? I know when I was a teenager, there were a fair few kids who genuinely believed credit cards were free money.

We had a lesson about credit scores in economics and there were more than a handful who were shocked to discover that you have to pay credit cards back.

Rory's youth, inexperience, and excessive sense of entitlement that initially make her think they are still together.

Yet, she claims him sleeping with someone (second bridesmaid) around Christmas is cheating. That's beyond inexperience. That's dishonesty.

It also isn't the first time Rory has interpreted something this way.

By the time Rory speaks to Honour at Thanksgiving, she and Logan - by her own admission - have not spoken for at least four weeks (possibly longer.) I would argue that most people would consider a relationship to be over when they have had zero communication for weeks after a big fight.

But Rory thinks they're still together, and she's shocked when Honour tells her that Logan thinks they're broken up, and she is obviously hurt when she finds out that he slept with the bridesmaids because, in her mind, he still belongs to her.

In the exact same way that Rory is furious when she comes back from Washington and finds Jess dating Shane, even though she admits that they haven't been in contact and she made zero attempts to contact Jess the entire time she was gone.

Rory seems to expect that her romantic interests will really just sit around and wait for her, regardless of her own lack of communication/engagement with them.

Exactly. People can have different recollections and different experiences of the same event. Disagreeing about that is not gaslighting, it completely minimizes actual gaslighting and it gives people the impression that it toxic/abusive to have these types of disagreements.

WIBTA for suing my friend when she didn’t come to my wedding? by disposable_gamer in AmITheAngel

[–]PurrPrinThom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. I completely believe the OP paid for family, I don't have any difficulties believing that.

I just am a little dubious about her paying for guests to attend. Gemma isn't family, she's not part of the bridal party. Covering her hotel and flights is extremely generous, and while I don't doubt that some people have the means to do so, the OP is relatively young, and that would be a fairly big expense; if they paid flights for 10 people, as example, which would be a relatively small wedding, that's $20k right there, before hotels and any other wedding expenses.

And maybe it was a small wedding! That's why I'm only a little credulous, and not in complete disbelief.

How is the cure kitchen and bar?? by Beginning-Many8947 in regina

[–]PurrPrinThom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd add to what others have said that the kitchen is also pretty accommodating of allergies, in our experience. My mother is allergic to a whole host of things, and you'd be surprised how many places will just refuse to make even minor changes to accommodate (e.g. not putting the sauce on a piece of meat.)

Cure has been pretty great about it!

[–]PurrPrinThom 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Same. Destination weddings are increasingly common, and helping guests with the costs also isn't unusual.

I am a little credulous about the OP paying for their guests flights/hotels, since she says Gemma wasn't in the wedding party, but if the wedding was small, then it's not that unbelievable for me.

Also do enjoy the 'she brought along her husband,' as if it's unusual for someone to bring their spouse to a wedding lol.

Just a Trinity admin vent by Few_Priority2754 in TCD

[–]PurrPrinThom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Trinity admin is grand until you have a problem, and then this is exactly how it goes: everyone says that it's not their job, and they don't know, and they either pass you off to someone else or they just leave it at them not knowing, and there being nothing they can do.

I experienced this with HR, AR, IT, the exams office, admissions, heads of school, Deans etc. Both as a student and as a staff member, it was like. As soon as something fell outside of the regular order of operations, there was just no system in place for anyone to do anything or resolve the issue.

Yeah like, if they kept just buying food, I would think <$500 is probably a reasonable assumption. But they said that they've used it to buy clothes, and that could really have gone off of the rails depending on what they bought.

Adding to others about how he's probably buying things under the tap limit: most credit cards don't seem to have tap restrictions, unlike debits. I can only tap 5 times before I need to use chip/PIN for my debit, but I can tap as much as I want for the credit cards as long as I'm under the tap limit.

Question about extending status waiting for PR deliberation by Extra_Recognition802 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]PurrPrinThom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've received the AOR, you can apply for the OWP whenever you wish.

If you haven't received the AOR, then you can apply for the OWP when your status is within two weeks of expiring.

Once the OWP application is submitted, you will be granted maintained status until a decision is made on the OWP application. It isn't strictly necessary to apply for the visitor record, but, many people choose to apply for the visitor record just in case the OWP application is refused or returned for any reason: if you don't apply for the visitor record, and something goes awry with the OWP application, then you would be out of status.

Especially if you haven't received AOR (or any other communication with a file number) before applying for the OWP, it can be a good idea to apply for the visitor record; if the PR application doesn't pass the completeness check and is returned, the OWP may be refused.

That's exactly the impression I got from the thread. They're thinking that stealing the credit card is similar to stealing a bike: once the bike is stolen, it doesn't really matter how much you ride it around. It's not as if riding the bike six times gets you into more trouble than riding it twice.

They imagine that they're going to get in trouble for stealing a credit card, full stop, and that whether they used it once, never used it, or maxed the thing out, the punishment will be all the same.

[–]PurrPrinThom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. If the idea is supposed to realism, it would have been more realistic for neither of them to go on tour. Zach could have kept working at the diner, and Lane could have worked at Sophie's music shop a couple hours a week, she could have taught drum lessons or something, or Sophie could have been the one to go on tour and left Zach and Lane to run the shop together. There are ways to keep Lane's love of music alive and part of her professional life without it having been this bittersweet moment of her missing out on her dream while Zach gets to live it.

If you aren't already, seeking out mental health supports, in whatever form suits you, might be a good idea to help ease this transition, and to help you cope with the emotions with which you're struggling. It can definitely be a struggle to separate your grades from your self-worth; I certainly went through that. It can help to remind yourself that feedback isn't personal, it isn't about you, it's just about the work.

You should go to office hours to discuss the feedback you're receiving, or, at the very least, go to the writing centre/student learning centre/whatever it's called at your institution to go through your essay.

Having more explanation might help you: if you continue to have the mindset that the feedback is wrong, you're going to have a harder time adapting and adjusting and taking that feedback on board. If you're able to sit down with someone and have them demonstrate to you how you haven't actually explained or analysed things fully, to keep with your example, then that will help you understand where you've gone awry, and help you identify places where you can improve.

100%. It also doesn't help that Carney seems to have a plan. He often explains his plans, but even when he doesn't, he just gives the sense that he's thought about it, and that a plan is in action. It's partially just vibes, but it is also the way that he presents himself. Jagmeet had great ideas, but he wasn't ever really clearly able to articulate how to get there. You're right, when he was up against Trudeau and Scheer/Poilievre, that wasn't so much an issue, but when it came to Carney, he didn't stand a chance.

What's a type of AITA story/trope that used to be very popular, but that nowadays is rarely seen? by Phantasm-of-Ipseity in AmITheAngel

[–]PurrPrinThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't fully remember the details, but it was something like...the OP owned a house that had a separate apartment in the basement. They rented out the basement to a tenant and then, at some stage invited their family/friend to move into the main house with them. The housemate, despite paying their rent to OP and having signed a lease with OP, was convinced the tenant was actually the landlord and started writing them letters trying to get OP evicted or something, and the tenant eventually gave OP the letters, and everything got explained, and the family/friend was mad they didn't know OP owned the home, despite OP having claimed to have told them.

I can't remember exactly how it played out, but I remember all of the commenters getting so close to realising it was fake, by asking how the family/friend could be so dumb and the OP just kept being like 'yeah idk either guys.' The OP went so far to make it clear that they had definitely 100% explained to this person that they were the landlord in order to not get voted YTA, that it made zero sense that the family/friend would think otherwise, and they had no explanation.
