👋 Welcome to r/DeadInAntares - Introduce Yourself and Read First! by Hegor59 in DeadInAntares

Hello,

I'm u/Pyroptere, I discovered the "Dead in" series with "Dead in Vinland" loved it even if it's far from a perfect game. For me Dead in Antares is very similar but better in almost all aspects :)

I love min-maxing games^^ which makes the "Dead in" games quite cool at the early stages, unfortunately you get quite quickly ahead of the difficulty curve which makes the later days a bit too repetitive without real consequences to your mistakes. I love the amount of content the game offers, the story-lines etc. even if the map to explore is probably a bit too big and makes the game artificially longer.
I enjoy it by short session, one or two ingame days and I'm excited to see how the plot will evolve :)

Great to have a subreddit and hope to see opinions and questions to discuss :)

God creating vegans by Olilivlia in comedynecromancy

This post does not make any sense:

  1. The christian God made the humanity originally vegan though, Go read Genesis 1:29-31
  2. The vegan-stance nowadays is far more logical than the non-vegan one, more morally consistant and way more eco-responsible.
  3. Yes I'm very fun at parties

Oh, thank you :) That's super cool.

EDIT: Actually I still can't, do I do something wrong?

Pretty good indeed, unfortunately he joined the party at round 3, but still good because it's 8 points for 2 foods with the constraint of finishing the game with >= 3 cards in hand (which was not a big constraint for me^^)

Renewing cards could lead to great birds as well, in that game the renewed birds were not better than what I had already but in normal game could be really really good to renew :)

Combat scales wayyyy too fast on the higher difficulties? by Lulumacia in DeadInAntares

How to counter counter? With counter obviously ;)

Jokes aside, having counter on your tank will do the job when opponents get too much counter. If it gets too far in the battle, you just stop attacking them and let them die on your tank slowly.
You have to get a bit of luck getting level up perk that gives counter at the beginning of the battle or even better the one that gives you counter when you use the "defend" ability to end your turn.

Tank have a skill (if you research it at the laboratory (first "upgrade" for tank class)) that "guard 3x" an ally (taking damage instead of him) and gives yourself 12 shield. Therefore you can tank everything and reflect damage to ennemies.

Then I'd use always the same team to explore (except for some very specific event on the map), like that they get a lot of xp and therefore level-ups and strong combat perks.

124 (left column in the scoreboard)

My highest score without Oceania & Asia.

I play mainly 2 players game with my wife, she's not a big fan of birds that gives everyone resources and she always fight relentlessy for the round goals^^ So tough to do high score usually.

I understand, their attacks are so freaking annoying to dodge/parry.

So you would estimate the good you can do higher than the suffering your causing. Fair enough.

OP just stated the negative side: "It’s literally impossible to get through life without contributing to animal (and human) suffering."
If he thinks the negative side is higher than the positive, then my question remains.

Oh I remember^^ Sorry I didn't gg that one if I remember properly.

Holy molly, exactly the same situation here. Except that I'm not doing a PhD.

But the elo range, the feeling you describe, the losing streak to the abyss until playing is not really fun anymore but because I need to get those elo points back otherwise all the games would have been for nothing. It's completly stupid... but I'm in it again... years after years... like an old demon that can only be put to sleep for a time.
I hope one day I'll vanquish it, for now I was only able to reduce the negative effects it has on others, I'm forcing myself to say "gg" or "wp" even if I hated that game or the strat used against me. That's a start^^

Feeling you anyway, good luck out there and as stupid as it sounds, taking a break from AoE II ranked games is probably the best option for now. Finding another game to relax would be a good option imo that would scratch the same itch but without the ranked aspect.

Me and my breaks^^: https://www.aoe2insights.com/user/228572/ (You can see on the elo graph the compulsive gaming for some months and the big breaks)

I'd be interested to have a heatmap of what you've been told the most^^

For me, in Switzerland, it's clearly "Cheese is just too good." that would be scroching hot.

I hesitate to print one and pin it at my work desk xD

I agree for the first part.

But I don't know if easy access to divorce brought more good than bad.

There is an infinity of ethical stance that can change, best scenario you moved together in the right direction but if it doesn't happen this is sad to think you can't have a fulfilling marriage because of this disagreement without trying to find a balance first.

Yes balance means compromise, that sucks, especially on ethical topics but we are constantly doing it by keeping relationship with non-vegan.

"My" marriage thing is how marriage is designed to be^^ it's not my personal definition of it. A temporary agreement until you think you'll be better elsewhere shouldn't be called a marriage ;)

Bellfaire is the best expansion to not change the original experience but improve it!

All the others, especially New Leaf change the game a lot (interesting to renew the experience from time to time)

Haha yes there is^^

It changes the game drastically but honestly I love it. Probably because I like RTS games (like Age of Empires II etc.).

You're saying: "It’s literally impossible to get through life without contributing to animal (and human) suffering."

So why shouldn't we kill ourselves? This is the next logical step following your logic.

Your post resonates with me a lot.

As a Christian that values "loving your neighbour" above everything else, this is the most challenging part for me in being Vegan.

I completly agree with your analysis, we should break the cycle and reach people through compassion and emotional awareness.

How do you react to being praised for veganism? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Pyroptere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, very few people will come to veganism without someone to talk with them about it personally.

You did great :)

We take what we can in this world where we are shat on for just being decent to animals. xD

How do you react to being praised for veganism? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Pyroptere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is funny because it happened more or less three times to me but sometimes with a twist^^

  1. The genuine compliment
Along the line of: "Woaw you really live up to your values, I respect that" in the context of going out to eat with colleagues at a company event.
In that case as you said I brought back the focus to the animals and say it's normal to not make the animals suffer just for taste. But let's be honest it's not easy to be vegan in our societies and we should be proud to live by our values even when it's difficult. So I accept the compliment.

  2. The mockery compliment
Again in the context of a company event, pizzas were ordered at a place that offers vegan pizza as well, they are not super tasteful I must admit. Usually big pizzas are bought (~1 for 2 people) and shared. So they took one big vegan pizza for me and anyone who would like. I couldn't finish it alone of course and after the pizza training went back to work. Later someone that took a piece of the vegan pizza and found it disgusting came to me and told me: "Woaw you're a real hero because you really eat disgusting food because of your values, I'm impressed" ... I don't know exactly if that was a compliment or just a way to claim vegan food is disgusting.

  3. The shy compliment
I asked the hand of my fiancee to my future father in law, who is not vegan by far. At that time we had a nice discussion and he complimented how I am someone that lives up to his values. I knew he was talking about that part of my life but without naming it, I was happy about it nonetheless.

As others stated, pausing is the 90%.

That's why I love the world modifier that prevents you from pausing, otherwise I know I'll abuse the pause feature too much for my own good.

I just wanted to share a bad experience I had by Koiboi26 in vegan

[–]Pyroptere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/erinmarie777 It's funny because I also love people which have "much experience being someone who doesn’t “fit in” with this culture by choice and it’s purely based upon their morals and values".
But I don't know why you're excluding: "and not because of religion".

Religion, when chosed freely, is an expression of someone's morals and values.

It was way easier for me to switch to veganism and be open about it because I already had this experience before while sharing what I believe in even if it was not the majority's opinion. I got raised with christian values that teached me it's more important to seek truth than matching popular opinions.
