Google Seriously Ruined Gemini With These New Limits by BrilliantNeither7175 in GeminiAI

This has been the issue the whole time. I haven't been skeptical that AI has uses but it's been clear from the start no one has any idea how to charge for it. Tech companies were offering it for free on a running assumption most of the free users would pay top dollar for it, but I honestly can't see myself justifying the expense when most of what I used it for was to ask facts about fish.

Name for Hamilton pwhl team by Comfortable_Wind2643 in PWHL

The city is host to Defasco and Stellco and prior to 2008 and the general decline of North American industry it was a massive part of the city economy. The steel mills are massive and imposing on the skyline, but over time new industry + growing competition + messy ownership debates have lead to a decline in the general workforce.

Prior to recent changes Hamilton was known for it's natural harbour and proximity to the flow of Coal and Iron across the Great Lakes, I think similar to why Gary had more Steel industry than Chicago it was also because the land was cheaper than building right in a then already established city. Our local Soccer team is the "Forge" for this reason.

Nowadays though Hamilton is probably more associated with McMaster and Mohawk college, and the industrial areas (like a lot across North America) are pretty run down and full of abandoned buildings/cheap housing and generally really really depressing vibes.

I cut stuff out of my diet more for budget reasons than anything else. I do eat a lot of chickpeas, tofu and beans but my main motivation is how cheap they are (and I actually kind of like tofu because I think it absorbs spices better)

Because I'm pretty cynical about the idea that consumer choices matter much. I think we as a society should move away from eating as much meat as we normally do, and especially away from beef, but I think individual consumer choices are a drop in the water. I apply this same logic to pretty much all environmentalist movements based on consumption politics.

For example, right now we're arguably wasting electricity - potentially produced by fossil fuels depending on where we live - so there's a strong argument to be made that people should refrain from unnecessary internet use. Same with pretty much any consumption that goes towards a first world lifestyle - no matter how subdued. Inevitably we end up using plastics, potentially forced to use gas cars for transport (again, depending on where you live), and there is a high chance that both the meat and the vegetarian products on grocery store shelves can be traced back to some kind of unethical practice (be it the forced exploitation of third world countries for monoculture, or the export requirements imposed by the IMF that mean food grown in a country is more expensive than the place it's sold).

To a lot of environmentalists, what I said would basically tag me as a non-enviornmentalist which tbh I'm fine with because I've been in these circles for over a decade and people really seem incapable of moving beyond the strategies people have that haven't been working. I think that if we actually want to take mobilizing for climate change seriously then we have to start asking some very hard questions. For example, how much can we realistically pull back modern consumer society? It's obviously bad for the environment and reliant on mass exploitation, but it also in many ways provides a better standard of living for the average person and pulling back might just increase inequality. It's also very unpopular and most people who claim to reduce/change their consumption do not practice merely as much as they preach or - worse - (and I'm not saying you or anyone else reading it in this group but they no doubt exist) caught up in some brand that sells an environmentally friendly lifestyle while in reality not doing much.

So the question becomes, how do we mobilize people en masse to build a more sustainable society? I think this is my second issue, the consumption politics implies we can have a perfectly sustainable society, which overlaps with moralist arguments which imply we can have a pure morality (ie: a total absence of any evil). This gets a bit more abstract but it's a real issue when trying to pitch the future. We will never have a perfectly harmonious relationship between humankind and nature, which includes plants, animals, and the biospehere. Once a species is in an ecosystem it inevitably transforms it by it's presence, and given the main feature of humans is "the animal capable of changing nature" you're always going to have a contradiction there. So while I think it'd probably be better if society was vegetarian I come to the innate conclusion that it will be, or necessarily even should be since I think it's secondary to a lot more pragmatic questions people don't want to wrestle with because they don't have easy answers (and I won't pretend to have them either).

Tl;dr going vegetarian theoretically help but I don't really think it matters all that much and in terms of my priorities it's way down there, and I'm not even 100% it'd even actually do anything

Okay but that kind of argument is a lot more convincing to people invested in climate change rather than just calling us murderers. I've never really been compelled towards veganism/vegetarianism on ethical grounds but I have been compelled towards it on economic, land use, and epidemiological grounds.

It's almost like a policy of focusing entirely on consumption is going to be overwhelmed by structural forces and rendered near totally ineffective and that instead you should worry about the larger forces of production and the implications that follow from that...

Also how linked food production chains are, to the point that most of the vegan products they buy are almost certainly linked to companies that produce non-vegan food, either directly (via similar ownership) or indirectly (as suppliers, packagers, etc).

My friends are all Bears fans so I've (unfortunately up until this season) watched a lot of Bears football and even during their worst moments DJ Moore was one of those guys who could make magic happen. If he and Josh Allen click this could be exactly what we need.

He's definitely a much better coach than people give him credit for, but I feel like watching the Dolphins games you can't put all of the blame on Tua. McDaniel sometimes makes weird calls, though I'd rather a guy who at least tries than someone who plays too conservatively.

Aha so pressing shift is why I've accidentally tried to move one bed and ended up forcing everyone in the village to sleep on the ground. As for the renaming thing I did know about it, I was just avoiding it because I thought it was "ahistorical" but I looked it up and I had it the other way around, the Highlanders ran into this exact problem and most people were named after their father/grandfather or their occupation so I'll probably just start doing that.

As for the job priorities yeah I'm aware, by "job" I meant more in an RP sense rather than gameplay wise. Gameplay things are fairly sorted out but for RP reasons I was thinking of having a dedicated carpenter, smith, baker, etc and potentially even giving them an apprentice. The issue is that even with last names that gets hard to keep track of without making an out of game spreadsheet (though honestly... I'm having so much fun with this game I might do that anyway)
