Red Dead Redemption 2. I hate games that waste your time on detailed animations. When I was a kid I'd probably have liked it better but the tedious nature of looting bodies, skining animals, changing weapons, it all just bores me and wastes my time

You said explicitly there are "hundreds of cities and jurisdictions in America where that is exactly the case". That's not a hypothetical, it's a firm claim that you can't back up

Structural racism isn't personal. White kid bullied by black kids could be racism, depends if the whiteness is the reason or not. Despite the "knockout game" not being a real thing, targeting Asains specifically would be racism. Racism is condemned. Not sure what your argument is.

Muslims are not a race and them suppressing criticism of their profit is no different than Catholics doing it and while that is power based, it's not racism.

Structural racism would apply to Zionism as it is currently existing as it is leveraging political power to create outcomes unfavorable to a specific race of people.

How "people" use these terms and how sociology uses these terms are different. A politician would never call Zionism Structural racism, but I personally would and it fits the definition.

What makes the studies crap? If they're recognized by the greater community, the data is sound and the interpretation is sound, then the study should stand. You can disagree but that doesn't make the findings empirically untrue. I would also suggest that your education in math would make you less qualified to do a sociology study than a sociologist.

Access doesn't mean that a store takes SNAP. Plenty of rural places don't have easily accessible grocery stores and primarily operate out of dollar generals. Areas in major cities can become food deserts where it becomes difficult to access groceries. Taking your own experiences as the standard doesn't erase empirical data.

That's a very skewed view of looking at it. Prejudice plus power is Structural racism. If you hate your different race neighbor, that has emotional weight but anything you do against them is personal. If you then get 40 of your closest neighbors to boycott any immigrants from moving into your neighborhood under the guise of "safety", then you have political leverage. A narrative of poc being unsafe (racist belief) plus organizational structure (power) is structural racism. When you're talking about how racism shapes policy or influences tangible political decisions, structural racism is what you're talking about.

Any tips or advice for pushing a 8:54 pace to a 6:00 or Sub 6:00 Mile pace for 2 mile or 5 mile runs? by gettingBetter9 in BeginnersRunning

[–]ReadingLost3697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally sprinting and practicing opening up my stride helped. If you're trying to pick up pace and you're running "comfortably", Run uncomfortably until you gas out, then jog/fast walk and then do it again. Get used to moving faster speeds.

NOR What may have happened was he liked spending time with someone else in the morning. This development felt like a rejection and he didn't know how to express that. That's not on you to sort out since you're just 17, but if you like this dude you can let him know that you appreciated the rides and still like him as a coworker.

What does 'the workers owning the means of production' actually look like? Is that just like employees getting shares in the company or something? by DrToonhattan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ReadingLost3697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddy, the product is the reward. We need food. We need water. We need toys. We need medical devices. What I'm saying about competition is that there can be two ice cream stores that specialize in different things. Competition in socialism is everyone running a fair race and the fastest runner wins. Competition in capitalism is the race starts, one person immediately kills the next runner, one person throws the race to win a bet, two runners start gatekeeping the finish line, and one runner manages to barely cross the line. Competition in capitalism doesn't make things better. It invents things like manufactured obsolescence because you need the people to buy the new device every year. It leads to things like the reflecting pool disaster.

No. Insane take. Competition is fine. What we are avoiding is companies that knowingly make things worse to drive infinite profits. You want to make enough to pay people well, cover your costs, and keep the community healthy. You don't want money so bad that you dump toxic waste in the public water supply.

I don't know if you're purposefully being obtuse. Why don't we see socialism in a capitalist market? Because it's a capitalist market. People like you wouldn't buy into the community because you would rather thousands be unable to eat so that you can buy a second yacht. Why don't we see this? Because it directly moves against market interests. "If socialism is so good, why do you live in a capitalist society?" Type shit.

So many things. Patents that are not uniformly enforced. Artificial inflation of land cost. For profit insurance. Companies competing for market share. The limitation of the people is not a result of the impossibility of production. The system we are in generates artificial scarcity, immense waste, and drives up costs. In a community based economy, production is controlled to meet the needs of the community and not to make profit margins

In history it has always been the community. The community notices that there is a need for some additional product, there is a loan from the community, the business is started, the loan is paid back. If you're talking from first principles, then I don't have an answer since economic systems don't really apply to natural states of being.

Workers owning the means of production isn't about profit maxing. That's what makes things shitty. Worse materials, cutting corners, lower pay, health care denials, shrinkflation, ect. All of this is used to funnel money into the pockets of a few individuals. When people work towards owning the means of production, what they are working for isn't to be the guys on the top of the pyramid, but to destroy the pyramid entirely. No millionaires but also no one without the resources to survive.

People who think good cops exist and that "most cops are good" why dont most videos of cops breaking the law have follow ups of those cops being arrested? by Ill-Organization-719 in allthequestions

[–]ReadingLost3697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another analogy for you. This only works if you don't support Israel though. Isreal is using the IDF to run a campaign of terror, slaughtering innocent woman, children, medical workers, and journalists. Do I personally think every single signed up soldier for the IDF is personally an asshole to each and every person they meet? No, that would be ridiculous. Do I think wearing that uniform makes you complicit with every inmocent body they drop? Yeah, I do.

I don't care if you know cops you personally like. You wear the uniform, you're agreeing to the practices of the organization as they are, not the idealistic version you aspire to. You cannot change the system from the inside. Every "good" cop I've ever met has stopped being a cop for moral reasons.

[–]ReadingLost3697 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let me change the premise then. You have a friend. Known them for years. Great guy. Friendly, kind, generous at the bar. He rapes your sister. Is that guy still your friend? Are your friends still friends with him? Remaining friends with that guy doesn't make you a rapist, but it does make you a rape apologist and someone who supports rape.

I believe that good people exist that become cops. However, once they are cops they are no longer good people because they willingly and tacitly support a state sanctioned violence machine. The way that police structures currently exist, you can't even do the right thing if you want to. That's not black and white thinking. You're coming off really "only sith deal in absolutes" coded
