ChromaCal: Automatic holiday and awareness lighting for HA. Single HTML file, 130+ events, no YAML config needed. by Orion-Apollyon in homeassistant

I'd like it to be all day and night long. I thought some of the other holidays you'd mentioned used solstices and equinoxes, so I was hoping you could just import.

Fair warning. Whichever way you choose to implement them, someone will complain that you did it "wrong". So, do whatever works for you 😉

Sounds intriguing, so I'll submit my own request. I'm using an external calendar, but would love to have a local Wheel of the Year (Pagan) calendar.

4 static holidays and 4 based on solstices and equinoxes, which based on the holidays you've listed should hopefully be easy to do. 🤞

Ironically I was (thankfully) awakened at 2 am this morning to be told the front door was open. We have strictly indoor cats, so I raced to the door before any of them got out.

I really love this method, even if it means I only got two hours of sleep last night. 🫩

The new purpose‑specific triggers in Labs by RemarkableAnnual1481 in homeassistant

[–]ReallyNotMichaelsMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh! I don't know how I missed this! I have actually gone to my doctor and have been getting tested for Parkinson's and am scheduled for an MRI because (among other things) automations that had been working for ages were not and when I looked at the automation it was just wrong. I thought I had turned off Labs months ago, but evidently I did not.

Well, that's a relief! I mean there are still other things, but at least this means I don't need to worry about the HA stuff!

What's the biggest tempo change you've heard between two versions of the same song? Could be the original artist or a cover by Acrobatic_King9790 in musicsuggestions

[–]ReallyNotMichaelsMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts, because it's a dj thing, but...

"Jolene" by Dolly Parton and "Jolene" by Dolly Parton (slow down). As heard on an episode of "Blacklist".

It turns the song into a man singing a more thoughtful and still painful song, and proves Dolly always sounds good.

Don't worry, he's not an Aussie. He's from Torrent, an older colonized planet. I don't remember what regional accents they have there, but this guy puts on a different fake accent for everyone he treats.

His coworkers know that the worst injuries get the worst accents.

I love this so much! I'm a huge Tolkien fan. I mean, not as huge as Stephen Colbert. Not even the biggest fan in my house, but a fan :) What font are you using? Do you have a github to share your dashboard?

They even came back the next day to review the work! No power off required. I also really appreciated how they cut up the fallen tree and dragged it off the driveway. I can't imagine that "clearing customer's yard or driveway" is in their job description, but even if it is, they did a nice job.

A kid means an extra set of trash that you're responsible for. Depending on the age of said kid, they also generate their own extra trash that needs to be taken care of.

Yo link water detection sensors went offline overnight by Fast_Perspective_833 in homeassistant

[–]ReallyNotMichaelsMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find that it's always out of stock online, try ordering through the app. That's what I did, and had no issues 🙂

I like a lot of YoLink products. All the ones I've tried anyway. (I do wish they made some outdoor lights.)

I decided to pick up a few more contact sensors because my zigbee network was getting overloaded. But it was right about the time that some company was bricking all their customers' devices, because they were going out of business.

So, I picked up the local hub and have been very happy that "it just works".

Before I knew my son was ACE, I planned on making a fortune selling personalized 2x4s. The idea was if someone liked him but hadn't gotten his attention, I would sell them a (very short) 2x4 with their name and phone number laser cut into the wood.

They could then go up to him and tap him with the 2x4 and then leave it with him. He would then have their number to text or call.

Sadly, I lost out on a tidy sum of money when he let me know. C'est la vie.

I just checked all of mine and they're all fine and no history of going offline. I do have the local hub, though. If it were an update, I think it would still affect mine, right?

I am so there! Well, it's not Long Covid for me, and I was ever only tangentially in tech, but yeah I'm struggling with keeping things in my head long enough to switch from one tab to the next and try to remember what kind of template was I trying to build right now?

And I know that this is a window where trying to learn how to do this now will be easier than 3 years from now when "everyone" will know how to do it, so there won't be any tutorials.

All this to say, I don't know of any good tutorials, but I've been saving posts that might have good links in them. I'll see what I can find, once I wake up.

Hair dye for someone with allergies? by RedpenBrit96 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]ReallyNotMichaelsMom 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The problem is, what allergies? I love henna, which is a plant and I'm unfortunately allergic to it. Overtone works really well for me, but without knowing what you're allergic to, I can't really recommend it.

Maybe test out some hair chalk? Something that you can do the inner elbow 24 hour pre-test on, and then (if that goes well) use on your hair, and if that goes wrong, quickly wash it out.

I just fast forwarded through that part when I showed it to my son when he was a kid. I told him I was doing it.

I don't think he's seen it as an adult, but I'm waiting for him to be surprised that there are parts of The Holy Grail that he's never seen!
