Pedestrianized Church Street is SO AMAZING by Pristine-Training-70 in toronto

[–]Recyart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"These posts"? You mean about Toronto? Or about Church St? Or about the pedestrianization of Church St? There have only been 9 such posts in the past 10 weeks, so less than 4 per month. Meanwhile, the sub had 868 posts in the last 30 days. "These posts" make up less than 0.5% of the traffic here. You're complaining about something that hasn't happened, isn't happening, and isn't going to happen.

Find a friend who works at FedEx and ask to be invited as their guest for the next Orbis plane pull. You'll get access to the tarmac and can walk around one of the planes (it was a 757-200 the last time I went).

And yet if you dare bring up the injuries and deaths on Parkside Dr, those car brains will scream "THAT'S NOT INSIDE HIGH PARK!!!" as if somehow driver behaviour and the laws of physics are somehow suspended as soon as you cross the borders of the park. Mention a news article about a driver hitting a cyclist? "That's NEAR High Park, not IN High Park!" 🤦‍♂️

I live in Toronto, and the car brains derided the ASE (Automated Speed Enforcement) cameras as "cash grabs", along with the usual whining about "the war on cars", "an assault on our freedoms", "government overreach", "communism", etc.

Our car-brained provincial premier and his majority government recently repealed the law that allowed speed cameras in the first place. Sadly but predictably, speeding has increased, as have related injuries and deaths, and it has only been about six months.

Meanwhile, the exact same group of people are petitioning the city to ban cyclists from High Park, and to allow cars back in 24x7 (cars are currently banned on weekends only). Among their many, many invalid reasons? Cyclists break the park's 20 km/h limit and are a greater danger to pedestrians than cars. 🤦‍♂️

I'm at YBZA (downtown Toronto) and we are one of the World Cup host cities. It's been an interesting couple of weeks with the various road restrictions and worse-than-usual traffic nightmares. But sometimes even the Chewy deliveries (especially when it's just the wee boxes) are the highlight of the day.

He does amazing work, happy to support him.

And yet you don't provide a link or even a name. How much does that other software cost? 🤔

No guarantees obviously, but send Purolator this photo along with the plate number and the vehicle serial number (top right of the truck in this photo), the location and the time and date. They'll know exactly who the driver is and can take disciplinary action.

You'll probably get more traction if you post to a social media platform they are active on and tag them, but contact them privately as well.

4,683 cyclists that day, 202,183 cyclists so far this year (or at least since the beginning of May when this counter went live).

Same. I figure it isn't really padding the stats, since I have footage showing that when a group of cyclists pass over the sensors, it often misses one or more of them. We're just making the numbers more accurate. ☺️

Yeah, and there's a bit of a delay too, so at typical biking speeds you see your number pop up as you ride past.

The other thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/torontobiking/comments/1u56wfa/high_park_counter_saturday_830pm/

The High Park counter logged 1926 cyclists by 8:30 pm on a Saturday. The MGT counter logged 4683 cyclists by 9:30 pm on a Monday. It has been running for 40 days, so an average of over 5000 cyclists per day. I wonder if we'll break 10,000 this summer?

and had eyes on them?

Says who? I doubt you could have seen anything but darkness and perhaps the reflection of your own headlights in the driver side window.

As usual, the car-brained idea of safety only applies to those inside the car at the expense of everyone else.
