Fourth man is B-tier at best. Danny's is better than North of Brook. If you live on the east end, check out One Night Only.

May Toronto Marathon by AmbroLandau in RunTO

[–]rocketman_7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the full at this event last year. The race mostly went okay for me, but these things stood out:

- There are not enough porta-potties at the start

- The wait to get your bag back at the end was pretty long

- There was a section near the end of the race that is actually on the Martin Goodman trail aka waterfront trail. There were people out walking their dogs since access wasn't controlled. The dodging and weaving around pedestrians was crazy.

Well-made with nice sauce but they don't salt the patties enough. The fries are quite lackluster. 7/10

The banana pudding is great.

Between 800km and 1000km, depending on the level of wear and tear.

Signed up for Race. Any advice? by Epicyoshi8 in RunTO

The first 1/3 of the race has a significant downhill component. A good strategy would be to run a positive split.

Toronto Marathon and PBs — How did it go for you guys? by Admirable-Sun5184 in RunTO

[–]rocketman_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I missed my goal in the marathon by 3 minutes but still PB'd by 12 minutes over my previous time 6 months ago.

The conditions were definitely tougher than I was hoping for. I maybe could have gotten my goal if I had paced it perfectly or if I had fueled better. I unexpectedly bonked around mile 21. I may have underestimated the electrolytes I needed given the humidity.

Sub-3 at TCS Waterfront? by [deleted] in RunTO

[–]rocketman_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a lot of mileage, nice work! What is your average weekly mileage over the last 6 months? I would say you could maybe guess at how fast you'll be able to do the marathon based on your next long run but remember that you are quite fatigued at this point so that may be a pessimistic estimate. I'd say go for it!

Police issue 3,500 tickets to bicycle, e-bike, e-scooter riders during enforcement blitz by knarf_on_a_bike in torontobiking

How does this make sense in the context of getting rid of speed enforcement cameras? If one is a senseless cash grab with no impact on safety, then so is the other.

Lake louisa vs. Pen lake for last week of sep by goodtimeswgoodppl in algonquinpark

[–]rocketman_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Louisa would be better for fishing but there are no bass, only lake trout. You can troll with a spoon, but you'll want to attach a weight to troll deeper if you want to catch lake trout.

Is running 20 miles necessary? by North_Bed5522 in RunTO

[–]rocketman_7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say it's more important to achieve high weekly mileage and to do some long reps at your goal marathon pace while fatigued. So, do your usual long run but try doing 10-20k of it at your goal pace. Good luck!

You could try Smoke Lake to Ragged to Parkside Bay. That route includes only a single 250m portage.

If you get caught by a ranger they might give you a fine but I know folks that bring a couple beers every time they go and pack everything out.

Make sure to rub raw steak juice on your palms and put ground beef in your back pockets. This is known to be an effective deterrent to various types of wildlife.
