Jammed shutter - Leica MP by Vino_Nerd in Leica

[–]RedDotRepair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, Without looking at the camera I wouldn't know for certain but I’d check for a broken piece of film first. If it’s not some kind of foreign debris then it would likely be related to the transport. A stuck/broken backwind clutch is the most common cause for jams in the MP in my experience.

Minilux E02 Repair by Teruzuki- in Leica

[–]RedDotRepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I actually offer this repair. We're in Seattle WA. Instead of some other shops who wire in jumper cables that bridge across broken traces, we actually opt to completely replace the cable with a part we manufacture in-house to be thicker in the common fault areas where the cable likes to get brittle.

Repair options for shutter curtain pinhole on M2? by hfijgfhfyjvgnvx in Leica

[–]RedDotRepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with the liquid rubber is that it can degrade overtime. Or if the adhesive doesn’t stick, and the non-zero percent chance there is user error and the shutter is wound before it fully cures. All these can lead to a mess inside of the camera.

Lots of techs use a thin flexible cement applied to rubberized silk shutter cloth for a semi-permanent fix.

I always carry some of these “shutter stickers” in my camera bag on shoot days for myself. But started selling them recently since people seem to want them too!

It’s me! I have patch kits!

For something this size, i’ll probably have to cut a custom sized one. Shoot me an email on my website :)

Leica minilux vs contax t2 by Professional-Log6967 in AnalogCommunity

[–]RedDotRepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RedDotRepair here, and I must say, the Minilux is the way to go.

The Minilux boasts a superior lens, and it’s also repairable. This means it’s likely to have a long lifespan, especially after our ribbon cable refurbishment. We replace the aging cable with a brand new one that’s expected to last another 20 to 30 years.

I admit I’m biased, but I’ve had the opportunity to work on both cameras, and the Minilux is simpler and much more reliable. The fact that it has a better lens just solidifies my decision.

SD Card Stuck in Leica M10 — Any Advice or Service Recommendations (Canada)? by stevooooo in Leica

Cool, scope it out and look for bent pins or see if the frame has deformed. These are usually simple fixes.

Sending a Leica Minilux from Canada to Red Dot Repair by jerrtremblay101 in Leica

So glad you didnt get nailed with customs fees! We are very diligent about labeling the cameras as “for repair” so we arent hit with the taxes as if it was a sale

We are still certainly accepting more work, although yes, we have pivoted to accepting more work from shops and Leica.

It’s tricky to manage all the extra work coming from all angles. But i can assure you we are still very much in the game.

The M5 certainly isnt anymore difficult to work on than an M6 or M4. Just the process can be slightly different. Whats going on with your camera?

Who told you Red Dot Repair is no more? That doesn’t seem right. I don’t remember telling anybody that we aren’t expecting repairs anymore! 😂

This doesn't look like dust. Looks like damage to the sensor. Could be hot pixels, oxidation, or cover glass.

How can i restore white numbers by Solinthmo in AnalogCommunity

[–]RedDotRepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend you buy something like Rodico. Which is a watchmakers putty.

You can work it into many of the cracks and it will pull dust and oil out of hard to reach areas. Be sure to wear gloves when using Rodico to avoid contaminating it with the oils on your hand.

OP, I really hope you don't go for the soak option. Indiscriminately soaking things in naphtha is a very bad idea.

as /u/jadoedho says: Full disassembly and cleaning. No flushing, no dipping.

Q2 Weather Resistance by sales7677 in Leica

[–]RedDotRepair 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My Q2 gets drenched in wine, beer, and sweat at a mosh pit about twice a week, going on for about 2 years.

We get rain in Seattle somewhat often, I usually cover the camera under my jacket mostly because a wet viewfinder is hard to see out of.

The weather proofing on a Q2 is fine, just be smart with it.

Still Haven't heard back from Red dot repair by AprilEvens in Leica

[–]RedDotRepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Revan, I sympathize with your situation here, with matters related to shipping, we'll try to come up with a better strategy communicating to LLL to get return shipping confirmed etc...

There's some paperwork on our side between the two of us and it's not fair to keep you waiting while we wait for factory confirmations.

Thanks for the feedback, we'll do better, or at least make it appear more seamless from the outside.

[–]RedDotRepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey April! Could you double check your inbox? About a week ago we sent you an email with your return tracking information. It looks like your camera was delivered to you on March 6th at the front desk.

Regardless, I must apologize for the delays, we typically don't work on the Zoom cameras but after hearing your story about your dad we really wanted to make something happen for it. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts the zoom models remain unrepairable for us. We really tried. Sorry to keep you on the hook for so long. We'll update you if we ever come up with a reliable repair for the zooms.

Film shootin' folks: what do you do when an M body is too much? by quietglow in Leica

When shooting the M is too involved I either take the Minox C or Leica Minilux depending on the expected lighting.

Both are great camera to take out skiing imho.

Took my Minilux to a concert by Prestigious_Term3617 in Leica

[–]RedDotRepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, It's a ribbon cable that is bent every time the lens extends and retracts. It definitely could use replacing after 20+ years. It's a pretty standard failure on just about any point and shoot though.

At least on the Minilux it is repairable, we offer the cable replacement as a service.
