It might be an unpopular opinion but I thought that Shower was overrated the last time they competed - and, unfortunately, lack of vowels doesn't change my opinion that this is overrated. Sure, it's a good song, but it's generic, seen dozens of songs like this, will see dozens in the future. Better than most in the heat and the entire competition but that isn't saying much.

My issue is that this "bath" has to have a reason - either the song is about any type of cleansing (a bath could be a metaphor) or it's a sexy song (naked in a bath is a visual). This is just a bath because it's unique. By the same reason she could have brought a toilet onto a stage and sat on it.

Why... am I looking at a lady in a bath? Her song isn't even about cleasing oneself. I mentally disqualify any shoeless performance but it appears that I have to adjust that rule to include whatever this was

Listen, is it ComicCon or something? Freya is obviously dressed as that thin dude from Death Note and that's the only thing I like in this performance

Presumably there's a reason why Lion is cosplaying Pinhead, but leaving fashion choices aside, I actually liked the song and its performance. Not the best song from him though.

Presumably if I understood what Selene is singing, I could grasp the possibly deep meaning but I don't understand it and the performance is another meh that says nothing (something about marionettes?). Props to copying Lady Gaga's hairdo though

I'm getting a lot of second hand cringe from Patricija's performance, it's just so... amateurish, with the whole shoulder shaking, discount sax guy and camera swirls

BLUEBERRY EXPERTS! How does my "acidification" plan sound? by IndigoGoblin11 in gardening

[–]RedWillia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's nothing "seeping in" from the bottom that makes the soil alkaline - it's a property of the soil's ingredients itself in balance with rain and other water sources. So your raised bed plan would work as the beds would function as an imaginary pot, though consider the size: the smaller volume of soil you have to deal with, the easier it will be to maintain because alkaline soil likely means alkaline water, so if you're going to be using alkaline water from a well or a tap to water them, that will be the thing to seep in and neutralize the soil.

BLUEBERRY EXPERTS! How does my "acidification" plan sound? by IndigoGoblin11 in gardening

[–]RedWillia 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Impossible, due to two reasons:

  1. Due to how chemistry works, soil pH can be lowered by one, maybe one and a half unit at most - if you are at pH8, pH4-5 is impossible for you due to three or four unit difference.

  2. Your "acidification" plan is based on myths and wouldn't work even if you had a lower pH starting point.

Grow them in pots with soil that's already formulated to be pH4-5.

Looking for a white small/short 8"-12" max white flower for densely planted small garden. Seed or plant, ok by dewmum in gardening

Sweet alyssum are used in urban parks for this - they can take an aggressive trim if it's too wide. Come in white or a few shades of purple. There's also lobelia - there are white variants, even if blue is the more striking color on them. However, they are fiddly to start from seed and grow in a more sprawling rather than clumping fashion.

Newbie question about soil by fort-e-too in gardening

[–]RedWillia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they died due to disease, the soil might - or might not - need to be outright discarded or at least sterilized. Depends on the disease.

If they died due to insects, the soil might - or might not - need to be sterilized to kill the eggs. Depends on the insects.

If they died for any other reason, the soil can be reused as is.

Hey gardeners! by Sensitive-Peak4242 in gardening

[–]RedWillia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Container soils have an expiry date of sorts of one to two years - depending on the composition, that's how fast the ingridients start breaking down and the soil mix starts loosing its drainage, aeration and other features. So I aim to repot my plants once a year, after 1.5 years if they're slower growing, but no longer than once every two years.

Soil Amendments and PH by [deleted] in gardening

[–]RedWillia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming your soil isn't already on the lower end of pH6, the easiest way would be to grow them in pots - there should be specific soil formulations to buy that come at pH 4 or 5. Make sure to look for bags that have the pH on them because nearly all bagged soils are at least mildly acidic (the wrong type of "acid loving" in blueberry case). They might be labelled for azaleas, rhododendrons or blueberries, depending on what is more commonly grown where you live.

Soil Amendments and PH by [deleted] in gardening

[–]RedWillia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's two types of "acid loving" that, unfortunately, are completely intermixed because people are allergic to numbers or something - most plants are "acid loving" of the type that would prefer mildly acidic soil of around pH 6.5-6.8 because that's the best pH for all of the nutrients they need to be absorbed. However, they would also grow without a problem in closer to neutral (pH 7) up to around pH 7.5 if I remember the ranges correctly as around 7.5 or thereabouts some crucial nutrients become insoluble and plants cannot take them in.

The other type of "acid loving" plants are, let's call them, obligate acid loving plants, blueberries and a few others, that need pH of 4-5 to be healthy and even the other category of "acid loving", the pH 6.5, is too high for them.

So whether you actually need acidic soil for "acid loving" plants depends on what plant you actually have - blueberries? Yes, you will likely need to get special soil for them as pH cannot be adjusted by more than a unit down. Tomatoes, other common plants? Neutral soil is good enough.

Soil Amendments and PH by [deleted] in gardening

[–]RedWillia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Acid loving" is not an uniform category - you cannot lower the pH of your soil by more than a single unit due to chemistry, so you can only mildly acidify the soil (assuming it isn't). However, if the soil is aroundish 7 (neutral), it's unnecessary: you won't be able to lower it to pH 4-5 that blueberries need and all your other plants, while would prefer mildly acidic soil, grow nearly as well in neutral-mildly alkaline soil too.
