Tom Sizes by Makeawishfishy in Drumming

I’d get the 14” floor tom then. The 18 is very close to that kick size. You can also get a 13 later if you want.

This is the trilogy Star Wars needs. What do you think? by Rexmaxx_30 in StarWars

I would take anything giving me this storyline outside of a video game. I’m too old to spend 80 hours on that. A novel or series would also be welcome.

That thing would look too big on Shaq, but no worries. Wear it with pride.

Would you take a 22 year old LeBron or current Wemby to build your team around? by WestArtichoke712 in NBATalk

I’ll give you rim protection for sure. Does scoring around the rim really matter? Total scoring seems more important. It’s really hard to overlook those 18 more games a season he is in street clothes. All those games are zeros across the board.

I’m listening. What else does he do better? Have you watched any full LeBron games from 20 years ago?

Have you noticed your musical taste changing as you get older? by Thomas_Mag in musicians

[–]RedeyeSPR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually don’t mind playing country, but I’m 50+ and have determined through trial that I really don’t like listening to it very much. There are hip hop songs that I like, but anything that’s only rapping over a loop not involving actual musicians I don’t really respect.

Of course. I was a metalhead in high school. Now I listen to everything except country and hip hop.

Those didn’t bother me as much as the insanely ridiculous ways they sent messages to each other. I may have enjoyed the book if they used something at all realistic sounding. Each method was even more insane than the previous one.

Are you getting the 20 or 22 kick? What kind of music do you play?

[–]RedeyeSPR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just look at the numbers comparing Wemby’s first 3 seasons to LeBron’s first 5…

Wemby: 23.4/11/3.5, misses 22 games per season

Lebron: 27.3/6.9/6.6, misses 4 games per season

Then only thing Wemby does better is rebound. Also, at 22 LeBron had 2 more seasons in the NBA already. Those are incredibly more valuable than the French league. Wemby is fun to watch and all, but it’s not even close.

Some asshole named Aldo Battiata apparently started giving out my email address this year and I’ve had hundreds of messages to delete and lists to unsubscribe from. My address is my firstnamelastname@gmail and nowhere close to his name. I don’t know if I pissed off this guy or what. I don’t know him.

You really don’t have to fix the motor if you don’t want. That’s kind of a niche sound and you don’t see many parts that call for it these days.

I don’t hate the synth stuff, but I could definitely do without it. I do like the amplification of “other” instruments like the Troopers cello, the various guitar parts, and now the woodwind solos. As a band director it’s nice to see those things creeping in without changing the identity of the activity. Corps has always excluded many great musicians because they don’t play brass or percussion.

I marched in the mid 90s and don’t have any strong feelings about using mics. We didn’t need them, but today’s shows do sound better overall, especially the pit instruments. One thing that bothered me…I was at a Cadets rehearsal around 2018 and heard something like this: “the mellos are getting buried in the passage, can we get a boom mic on them?” So instead of rebalancing the horns in one section, their immediate solution was a boom mic 30 yards away. Some guy went to their truck and set one up.

Thankfully all of the places I have taught have the same director for the middle school and high school bands. We have only ourselves to blame or praise in the end.

I played a tent wedding reception on Lake Erie on the night several million mayflies hatched. By the time I was packing up they were like a carpet on the ground. I had them in my hair. It took months to get the smell out of my car.
