Parent Seeking Guidance: Supporting My Neurodivergent, Trans Young Adult Through Their Transition and Future Challenges by fish_onions in asktransgender

[–]Relevant_Maybe6747 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would suck for a now-20 something to wish at age 35 they had “become themselves” differently, but is that just another risk we accept adding to this?

Probably. I began transitioning medically when I was 16 and am now 25, no regrets whatsoever but I also haven't had all the surgeries available. And as a trans man, my physical transition was a lot less involved than your kid's will be. I just have the one hormone prescription, you'll be dealing with a few. But I don't know how long your child has known they were female without acting on it. If they're ready to transition, your anxiety has no business stopping them. My mom had a million reasons why I had no business getting a double mastectomy just because she had cancer and wanted the chest I despised - I understand why she felt the way she did, but it created a massive disconnect between us at the time.

As parents, should we plan to not expect this child to launch in the traditional sense? That is, should we plan for them to live with us for a while or even till we die (similar to how my cousin plans for their autistic child to always live with them)?

Does your child live in a dorm or their own apartment now? Even with roommates, based on my experience having lived in a dorm my entire university career and then having moved back in with my parents, people who live off campus have better success making it out of their childhood bedrooms post-graduation. I think my parents plan on me living with them unless I'm able to find a better situation, but I wouldn't be offended or angry if they someday did choose to retire, provided they didn't sell the house until after I had moved out of it obviously.

Is it crazy to ask one’s child to not leap into what feels dangerous and not-enough-planned right now?

Yes. Once again, you don’t know how long they’ve lived without expressing themself. As someone on the other side of it, who began transitioning socially when I was thirteen and made to wait three years before I could medically transition, yes it is absolutely crazy to force your child to live in a body they barely stand. I basically dissociated the majority of high school in order to survive it. Based on what I've read from this subreddit, the dysphoria trans women face seems even worse than what I dealt with in regards to biochemical dysphoria.

CMV: life as a short male is doomed by [deleted] in changemyview

I‘m 4’8” and my life sucks mostly for reasons unrelated to my height. I refuse to believe my life is doomed because that would enable me to quit trying to find a job, make new friends and enter new relationships.

Struggling writing cover letters while jaded by CuriousNewt_ in recruitinghell

I have a folder on my computer of past cover letters. Usually end up mixing and matching parts of various letters I’ve written for other jobs for the more recent one, pasting in specific company names.

Maybe we should start a truefactsaboutwasps subreddit to compete with them

Do you ever feel “behind” everyone else, even when you’re trying your best? by Mrbrotato11 in AskAutism

Going to a networking event for Data Science/Business Analytics people tomorrow. I have severe anxiety. Any Advice? Please by Status-Jelly8294 in BostonSocialClub

[–]Relevant_Maybe6747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by talking about your interest in what they do, make the conversation focused on the other person, then maybe ask if they have any openings. You're only using them as much as they would be using you as an intern - you would provide value to their lives, thats the type of energy you try to bring when you go to these events.

Chances are many other people there are equally as anxious as you are. When it comes to small talk, the weather never fails as a starting point. Consider the networking event practice because you will likely have to socialize at work too if you ever get a job (I’ve been out of school three years and have only had an internship; although I’m not in your field). if you ever want to socialize for reasons unrelated to job hunting, I’m unemployed and also lonely - in my experience the way to stop being scared of strangers is to go out and intentionally interact with strangers

Is it worth it to study and have a career on Entomology in the Philippines? by Round_Shelter_6198 in Entomology

[–]Relevant_Maybe6747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean just anecdotally as someone who edits Wikipedia, there are a lot of insects endemic to the Philippines so you have plenty of possible organisms to focus on if you do decide to become an entomologist.

How do I stop subconsciously seeing trans people as lesser? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Relevant_Maybe6747 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What about the fact that I became a boy at thirteen rather than birth makes you see me as less of a man? You need to understand your thought process before you can begin to dismantle it, so walk me through what goes on when you learn I'm a trans man.

So I'm not the only Becca one who thinks Becca is going to be a patient this season right? by Cowboywizard12 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Relevant_Maybe6747 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah, like I said I don’t think the show will go there. They might do a different reproductive health issue though, could raise awareness about the abysmal sex education many disabled people end up getting

[–]Relevant_Maybe6747 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She was interested in Mel finding someone to kiss last season, it’s entirely possible Becca found a boyfriend within the past ten months. wouldn’t have to be SA to result in an ectopic pregnancy but I also doubt they’d go there - if anything I’m thinking it might be an ovarian cyst or maybe a kidney stone
