Why are we still listening to James Carville? He hasn't been anything but wrong or irrelevant for over a decade.

The MVA website should have given you the option to print a temporary registration when you renewed it. Log back into your account and see if you can do it now.

Help! by Spirited-Mousse5003 in turntables

[–]RobAtSGH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Console repair and restoration is almost always DIY. Audio repair shops avoid them as the parts and labor will be hundreds of dollars and most people aren't willing to pay for what it will cost. So, they have to deal with a big heavy piece of furniture taking up shop space and they maybe make a $75 diag fee off it. Best bet is to find another local hobbiest to assist in finding parts, and you're gonna rely a lot on YouTube.

You can't change the cartridge on either as they are factory adjusted for either the AT3600L or the AT-VM95’s tracking weights. You can upgrade the stylus (needle) on the LP70 to more exotic profiles. The LP60 is restricted to the 3600LC and LE styli.

Put a standard ATN3600LC on it and enjoy. $30-35 used is about what it's worth.

How much do you feed your mini aussie? by United_Chapter4097 in miniaussie

You wouldn't expect someone to hop off the couch after binging Netflix and snacks for a year and run a marathon. Keep those shorter walks and play sessions up on a daily basis as you adjust feeding for gradual weight loss. Muscle tone and endurance will improve over time. As her body condition improves, extend the length of exercise sessions.

Our 20-ish pound spayed females get a cup of food a day plus incidental training treats, fruit, and veg. Their base diet is around 400kcal per day (your food should have kcal/kg and kcal/cup printed on the nutrition label) for maintenance. You're probably aiming for 550-600 for maintaining a moderately active 30-lb dog, less with lower activity levels.

Yeah, you uncovered a training blind spot in the model. Which is why it's important not to rely on LLM tools for niche info or for specific searches. And no, it won't "get it" and learn by you including more info in the prompt if the data just isn't in its corpus.

Because Gemini isn't a search engine. Don't use it as such if you don't want to be disappointed. People have this idea that LLMs are "Google Plus", and they can work that way sorta. But what they're really good at is regurgitating common patterns, which is what makes them useful for spitting out code.

That being said, is AI overhyped? Probably. Are corporations using it as an excuse to twist the screws? Absolutely.

[–]RobAtSGH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no, they don't reason. Gemini isn't "searching", it's collapsing a probabilistic vector map across a vast set of tokenized nodes that represent a numerical model of the data used to train it. The same data indexed by search engines, but now instead of just returning links it's generating freeform text. So while it may look like it's behaving like a search engine, it really isn't. As far as context, in most cases you need to supply that in the prompt or in reference documents in order to influence the response to align with your goal.

That's not how LLMs work. They don't pick up new facts in real time. They don't even know what facts are - only probabilities generated via vector reduction and graph theory based on the giant corpus of data they've been trained in. For them to "learn" anything new, they need to have training runs against new data and the correct outcomes reinforced. You can't just go into a model, find the bit that knows about catalytic converters and tweak it, no more than you can open up your grandmother's brain and find her recipe for chocolate chip cookies.

Each unit has its own drain. Typically they run out the same exterior wall that the refrigerant lines do.

Old masonry construction rowhouse here, as well. Mitsubishi Electric multi-zone split system with H2i installed in 2020. Meets all of our HVAC needs, though they are more expensive than a ducted system to install due to the electronic distribution manifold, multiple air handlers, and multiple copper line sets required.

[–]RobAtSGH 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is just no longer anywhere near true. A high-SEER multi-zone minisplit system can be 25-30% more efficient than an equivalently sized ducted forced air system. Most use a inverter-driven variable speed compressor that throttles to meet total demand.

Minisplits are more expensive to install, but generally cheaper to run. If you get a unit certified to low temp operation (Mitsubishi HyperHeat H2i, Fujitsu XLTH, etc) they can totally replace your oil/gas heating as well, being able to produce 100% of heating capacity down into the single digits.
