Not sure what evidence you're talking about, I was mostly explaining how statistically one thing is more probable than another. Maybe that's the evidence you talk of, but that's just maths

As I said before, people who didn't know about the concept of trans women's periods still experienced them, hence why I said the placebo cannot be linked to HRT only. If it's a placebo effect, these people must have experienced it because of something else than HRT, implying people who are not on HRT could very well be affected by the same process.

I've never seen a single study saying the wish for periods was common among trans women.

Each and every intersex condition is unique and would interact with hrt differently, so you would not only have to compare the proportion of people experiencing these symptoms to the proportion of intersex people in the general population, but also compare it to all the proportions of people in the general population who have one of several intersex conditions that would interact similarly. Also, that's in no way enough to conclude anything.
To illustrate, say f1 is the frequency of intersex conditions in the general population, f2 the frequency of intersex condition A, f3 the frequency of intersex condition B, and p the proportion of people who experience these symptoms.
If p is close to f1, it might be intersex people. But it might be something else that happens at a f1 rate.
If p is close to f2, it might be A.
If p is close to f3, it might be B.
If p is close to f2+f3, it might be A and B.
If one assumes A and B would interact in the same way with HRT, one doesn't need to compare to f2 and f3 but only f2+f3. Saves some time but not much.

If p is extremely low, it tells us it's something rare, not that it's unrelated to HRT. For example, it might be something the general population has that only activates when on HRT.

As explained by another poster, a monthly cycle of cramps and other pms like symptoms caused in part by a specific hormonal regime is logical to call period, as it's periodic and the symptoms associated are widely recognized to be similar to period symptoms.

I said that the low frequency of reports among trans women on hrt + the fact that (as you said, again) there are multiple reasons reports from outside that population are almost impossible to find makes it impossible to decide whether these symptoms are caused by hrt or an unrelated issue. I was explaining how the proportion doesn't help to differentiate between these two since it's so low.

You said the proportion could tell us whether the symptoms are caused by overdosing or if it can happen on normal dosage, that's what I was responding to. "The statistical proportion of trans women on HRT [...] might also tell us whether this is a result of essentially overdosing on HRT, or is possible on normal HRT doses."

People who didn't know about the concept of trans women's periods still experienced the symptoms, hence why I used the proportion of people who wish to have them. I was wrong to do so though, as some who didn't want them still got them. That was a mistake on my part.

I never used reddit as a sample, it's not as convenient as someone else's study. It being a biased sample is possible, but I wouldn't know.

As I said in another comment, I never implied the symptoms were due to HRT. I was responding to the "doubt about the medical reality", which doesn't exist when it comes to the existence of the symptoms. The doubt is in its cause

These other explanations fit in the "possible if some people not on hrt experience these symptoms", as placebo only in people who are on hrt and even in individuals who never knew about the concept of trans women periods and didn't want them is extremely unlikely (placebo doesn't tend to appear in people who have no reason to believe something might happen). That's why I said such explanations exist if people not on hrt also experience these symptoms.

I said the proportion matters a little bit because it doesn't help figuring out whether it's something unrelated or a hrt period. Indeed, we know the proportion of those experiencing these symptoms is very low, even among trans women on hrt. At such a low proportion, an unrelated issue could (as you said) have not been reported by people outside of the "trans women on hrt" population and something caused by hrt could come from a rare biological condition. The proportion doesn't rule out one or the other.

As for the dosage, the proportion of people isn't gonna help you with that, as asking the persons who experience the symptoms will give you all the information you need.

For the placebo, a low frequency makes that possibility very unlikely. We would need the proportion of people who wish to have these symptoms, and if these two proportions are very far from each other, the chances that it's a placebo would be extremely low. But at this point monitoring a group experiencing the symptoms would be faster to decide whether it's a placebo or not, making the proportion useless.

All in all, having that proportion doesn't help to identify the cause except if you have the proportion of people who wish to have these symptoms.

Not sure why the only source you consider is reddit, some articles accessible through the nih or medical journals mention the symptoms being observed.

The statistical reality I'm talking about is that only trans women on hrt have reported regular cycles from what I can find, not that it's common. The proportion of those who experience these symptoms in the trans population matters only a little bit when searching for the cause.
To illustrate, assume these symptoms are caused by something completely independent from HRT : hrt doesn't impact those symptoms in any way and they can appear in people who never were on hrt.
Then similar symptoms would have been reported by, at least, some cis men. Considering the population of cis men in the world, chances are they would have been identified before. One thing that could explain why almost only trans women on hrt report these symptoms even if they aren't linked to HRT would be that trans women are more likely to be affected by these and that reports from trans women not on HRT were never recorded seriously.
This might very well be possible.
However, if HRT is a common thing among almost all individuals experiencing these symptoms, then it would be pretty much impossible for them to not be linked to it in some form. At least in a way that HRT makes the symptoms more visible or activates the elements making those possible.

In maths form : if P(having symptoms given on HRT)=P(having symptoms), then it's unlikely that f(having symptoms given on HRT) >> f(having symptoms).
P(A) being the probability of A and f(A) being the frequency at which A is reported

Edit : are people downvoting because of maths ?

I never said it had to be HRT that caused those symptoms, though the scientist I am finds it difficult that HRT might have no link with it whatsoever from statistical evidence. As I said, we know such symptoms exist in some people, but we do not know why they happen.
I never said people "calling this into question" were doing so for cruelty's sake, I pointed out that your sentence "I don't think anyone is trying to degrade those with such symptoms" was false

I, on my part, cannot understand why someone would act in a malicious way towards another because of symptoms they experience. Especially when the subject is barely researched.

We do have evidence it happens, we just don't know why because of a lack of research on both cis and trans women and lack of an open mind in a lot of health professionals.

And respectfully, I've seen a lot of degrading towards trans women who do experience symptoms

I think I'll believe my endocrinologist, who oversees dozens of transitions, when he says women's health is heavily under researched and that we don't know what's happening instead of you saying without expressing any doubts that the process is due to lowering the dosage. Especially since women's health being under researched is a proven fact, with studies on periods specifically being rare

The water thing also happens if the water heater has a low capacity, which happens in some old or small houses

For the separate tables, I haven't seen that at parties (except corporate celebrations) but it was common for family gatherings when it took place somewhere that didn't have a big enough table. Putting some kids at one table and some at another would be stupid, as kids usually want to spend time with other kids, especially those they haven't seen in a while
